If there isn't one, does killing him once kill him permanently? If so, what's the best tactic against him?[/SPOILER]

Once he is dead, he is gone. I just ran right up to him immediatly, shot him two or three times with the blunder gun and he dropped off the side.

what kind of stats should i level? i have a hunters axe and rarely use the gun.
so far i put points in vitality and endurance with a bit in strength.

Quick question about Old Yharnam:
I'm at the base of the Gatling Gun guy's tower, and I'm looking for a lamp. Is there one nearby? That was a long trek from the last lamp to here, and if there's any way to make it shorter next time, I want to do it now.

I also would like to know if it's mandatory to kill him.

I have yet to find another lamp, but
if you travel into the depths of the Cathedral, eventually you will find a path that leads to a closed gate near the beginning of Old Yarnham. Once opened you can easily get to the streets past the Cathedral.

There is no other lamp, but
killing him once will kill him permanently. I actually got lucky and managed to knock him off the rooftop and he fell to his death. Another person said they aggrod him, started climbing down the ladder, and he chased them and fell off. Although, you can defeat him normally. If you stay close to him, he won't shoot his gun. Just make sure you're dodging his attacks. I actually used a heavy attack and he fell off.

Is anyone else getting frame skips in Old Yharnam? Not talking about the stuttering, but the game will sometimes just jump a few frames for some reason in that area.

area is my favorite so far. So creepy and atmospheric. Truly tense.

Managed to defeat the three snake bosses after Amelia. Made some really good progress today. Am I playing in the right order? Or was I supposed to have gone to the Charnel area.

Anyone got a cane and shotgun video of the first boss?

Idk, I'm doing something wrong or people are way higher level than me.

I beat it at level 7 with a cane and shotgun. I actually didn't even get parries in, just a lot of dodging and attacking from range with the whip. No video of it unfortunately. Levels don't really matter for bosses in these games so leveling up probably won't help much.

Do I chose Waste of Skin for my origin. What am I in for?

That's what I did. I like being able to assign levels myself.

THIS.

Honestly, if its not easy/unlimited, I'll prob end up playing the DS2 port more, even though I'm feeling this game more.

It is unlimited.
If you want help you have to help people.
If you want to be a dick to people and invade them you have to help people.
It's a balanced trade-off.

I don't have a video but I beat him at level 14 with cane/blunderbuss pretty easily.

Keep your distance and use as many molotovs as possible (I used all 10). Try and get behind him whenever possible (I found running straight at him then jumping/rolling past to dodge worked good). You can get in some good R2 charge whip hits from behind. Oh yeah and parry him in the face for massive damage

Also make sure to switch up the lockon camera, its good sometimes but it will also get you into trouble so disengage it when the camera fucks up

Just tried this. I had already tipped him off the first time I climbed up to the top of the ladder to peek at him. Climbed up again and he immediately shot me off the roof. I'm dead. Goddammit.

There is a shortcut later on that makes it easier to get to the lamp in old Yharnam. As for tactics
I cheesed it and hugged the side and let him charge off the building. If you die with him it's fine, he only lives once.

So consumables are getting more expensive as the game progresses ? So the patch didn't nerf blood vials to 180.

I must say, the beginning of this game, I have beaten the second boss now, is the best from the "Souls"-games.

You can level before the boss? I can't get the doll to wake up.

Wait till you enter the
cainhurst castle
, easily to be missed, as i do not think it is part of the progress route.

that 'father' guy is the second boss right? I ended up fighting him first...the hell? lol

The bosses don't really have a set order. You can skip the "first" boss completely, really. Although, in order to face the third or fourth bosses, you do have to defeat the "second" boss

I still don't get it. I saw the stat letters but it doesn't tell me if that weapon is a STR or SKILL weapon does it.

Example, the saw cleaver has a D STR bonus and E SKILL bonus, but is the weapon itself a STR or SKILL weapon?

Am I describing it wrong. I thought I read that Strength weapons get strong by raising STR and skill weapons get stronger by raising the SKILL stat. I just can't which a specific weapon it.

some weapons scale with multiple stats. the saw cleaver takes advantage of both str and skill, but scales better with str. i would call it a str weapon in this case. take the saw spear, which as similar stats to the saw cleaver but has a D rating in skill making it scale better with skill.

you're right in thinking str weapons get stronger with the str stat and skill weapons with the skill stat. it's just that some of the weapons, especially the early ones, have their scaling stats spread out. the threaded cane has a C rating in skill, so you know it scales better with skill even though it has str and arcane requirements. hope that makes sense.

With those stats on the Saw Cleaver, it means its damage will be influenced a bit by your Skill stat, and a bit more by your Strength stat. Both stats will affect its damage output, but Strength will do so to greater effect. As you level up the Saw Cleaver, I imagine its strength stat may change from a D to a C (and higher) meaning your gain even more benefits from your Strength stat. The same may happen with Skill as well.

Yes, especially during Gatling Gun fire I had this, the top area seems prone to frame skips every 10-30 seconds for me.

Cleric beast btw, so not really spoilery anymore

gonna be uploading the rest of my playthrough from last night when i get home from work. trying to get as much recorded as possible of this first playthrough

You uploaded right off the ps4? Is there anyway to up the quality? I can't seem to find it in the settings

I'm at work and ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS BLOODBORNE

Yeah, this is me too. Just glad I can access this thread from work or I think I'd explode with all the obsessive thoughts about it. I'm right on Father. He's next. Having seen video of the fight before, I'm all kinds of excited for it. But I also watched Vaati's "Things you might have missed" video for the region and I did indeed miss a few things. Might clean up before kicking in Father's teeth.

R1 attack?

But he is way too aggressive to keep him out of range

Did he maybe get nerved with the day 1 patch? :D
Haven't downloaded it.

I don't get it, I thought you couldn't upgrade points until you kill the cleric? I faced it for the first time, died then woke up at the doll and could upgrade. Used my items for souls(etc)

Brehhhhs I'm terrible at this game.

don't get yourself down too much, at the start i got my ass kicked by this game even tough i have beaten all of the past souls games. I finally managed to beat the first 2 bosses after i switched weapons, something finally clicked after that. Basically don't give up.

Yep. Can't peak or you ruin it. Just run up and rush at him ASAP!

you mean the door
near the plaza
? how do you get a password for that? ;p i am stuck.

If I remember right, you get it from touching a skull after fighting a boss. Though the door your talking about might be the one you either need to buy the key at the dream hub for.

On some tips page, it says to keep talking to a guy coughing outside of a window and he gives you a "cool item", but he isn't saying anything except about aquaducts now. Am I at the wrong place or what? (it's the guy by one of the first lamps)

oh i read about him from kotaku as well, probably he'll give u the items as you progress through the story and not just by the amount of talk you had with him
