You mean stunning them with the gun and then getting a critical strike? I've only used that once or twice and I'm a decent ways in.

Yeah. For the first few bosses it isn't necessary, but I don't see how you beat the third without it, and it helps tremendously with other big enemies as well.

"he's low! finish him!" anxiety is the cause of more stupid deaths than anything else.

Yup, that's when you get greedy. :P Just went through a few coop sessions on
Father Gascoigne
and it was always when he had that last sliver of health when the host died. xD

Huzzah! Finally beat Father Gascoigne!

But he only dropped the Odean Tomb key, and no token for his gear to be available from the vendor? Also, I dont remember how mnay souls I got from killing him, but it was between 2-3K.

I was under the impression you got Gascoigne's Set available to you from the Bath Merchant in the Hunters Dream as a reward.

(Conversely, I was at 8 Insight when I beat him, and had read that Gascoigne's Set gear was available at the merchant if you have 10 Insight, to which I just used 2 madmans masks to bump myself to 10, reloaded with a few lamps, and still no Gear set available.)

You can get his set from the other Bath Merchant. It's near the house with the storage chest. You'll need 10 insight first, though.

I'm really bummed I missed the stamina recovery rune from the Eileen the Crow quest. Anyone know if it is all that good? Is there enough other good runes that it isn't a big deal missing it?

Amazing amazing game so far. Reading this thread between deaths fills the time. Just killed the third boss.
Dodge and re-attack is your friend here. Least it was easy for me with 2H Axe.
Killed him on my 3rd try. 1 shot 2nd boss. 1st boss... Lets just say I spent at least 2 hours on him including rerolling from a Waste of a skin(?) to lonesome survivor(?).

How do I generate passwords or add friends to summon more easily?

How can people say this game has bad graphics. The game looks really good and the art style is amazing.

Souls games didnt care about graphics but damm the game have some bad graphics and textures, npcs still cant talk to you and move their lips normally like normal npcs even for this gen.

So...how fantastic is the level design in this game? holy shit i'm shocked

It's unbelievable. It's like the best areas of Dark Souls, but CONSTANTLY. I haven't found a single place that is just boring / linear, everything is so densely interconnected and labyrinthine.

Earlier I fell down a pit because one message said "beware of fall" and another said "trasure ahead". The treasure one had upvotes while the warning didn't. Bunch of trolls.

The pacing and overall feel of the combat in this game is way more fun than the Souls games.

Yeah pretty much my impressions as well. Turtling slowly with shield and hitting enemies is going to feel so slow now after this. I guess we will get used to it. Plus with the added variety of builds should ensure souls fans get back into that rhythm whenever the next souls game comes out.

So...how fantastic is the level design in this game? holy shit i'm shocked

It is pretty fantastic.

Couple hours in, goddaaamn this game is good. Flow of the combat feels so much better than Dark Souls 2. 2 bosses down so far.

From Metacritic:

This game is absolute unimaginative garbage. Missing many traditional RPG elements, you basically press "X" for the entire game. Also make sure to jack the brightness up as every level is as dark as a NAACP rally with the lights off. This is a lazy game for lazy gamers that don't want to try and solve, or get better at something, just a run of the mill quest game with less features than it should have

Best review yet!

My luck with this game is so bad so far. First off UPS screwed up sorting so it didn't come yesterday, was delayed until today. When it came today from Amazon the case was smashed since it was in a bubble envelope. Now I've gotten to the first check point after the starting room and I've died 12 times without making it to the next one. =[

Ok 2nd boss down on 3rd try, PROGRESSION! I ended up buying the Kirkhammer to go side by side with my sawblade but I still enjoy the sawblade better because of its quickness. The Kirkhammer looks beast though.

Protips for 2nd boss fight:

You can riposte him, do it because it hurts him like a mofo. Use the tombstones to your advantage to block him from getting to you so you can heal up. When fighting his second form, blast him with your offhand and swing away, don't run too much, be aggressive.

Oh, after 2nd boss I need 1 more insight to unlock the small bell so I can help people. Is there one near here??

Go outside the church where you fought the boss and then

to the left for the village

or

back to plaza and take the right exit, find alfred, talk to him about everything, go down the stairs and through the door to the Forgotten Forest

What boss
Blood-Starved Freak?

So when I use insight to summon someone then they quit straight away because they obviously are trying to get summoned by a friend, that's my insight just wasted?

lol, summoned a hunter to fight the 2nd Boss. Just the second I died he cut him down and in my loading screen I got the trophy. Startet with Blood and Insight tough :D

This has happened to me twice now in the last 20 minutes lol. If you're using no summoning password, I could have been that hunter.

I wasn't a fan of the Kirkhammer after I bought it, but I had a bunch of bloodstone's so I decided to get it to +3. OH MA GAWD!

Kirkhammer +3 (with a Str build) is amazing! Once you get the timing down, you can deal oodles of damage! OODLES!

The weapons in this game are amazing! Transforming weapons may have made other games worse for me...

It's equal parts frustrating and my only outlet listening to you guys make progress while I'm trapped here at work. I want to go to there, damnit!

The blood...it calls to me.
