Just a heads up for the beginner's guide, you don't have to get to the Cleric Beast to unlock the Plain Doll stuff, just get 1 insight. I consumed a Madman's Knowledge long before fighting the Cleric Beast and I was able to level up before even doing so.

OKAY,
PAARL DOWN

basically, you need to be using a weapon that hits high enough to stun him. I was using the untransformed greatsword/longsword, which meant I wasnt doing shit.

I initially felt that the boss designs were a bit weak, but I just fought the
Witches of Hemwick
and it completely turned my mind around. Glad to finally see a thoughtful and tense battle like some in the previous games.

Just got invaded for the first time. Seems that there is an area that you can be invaded in without you doing anything like ringing a bell. I was just minding my own business and this dude fucking came up and started to whip the shit out of me.

But I'm the whipmaster and I will not be whipped by anyone! So I recovered from his ambush and whipped him to death instead. Seems like the battle lasted forever, back and forth, him moving to get more and more enemies to attack me. Fire breathing enemies! I finally got him though.

I enjoy this games PVP way more than Dark Souls. It's so much more fast paced and intense. No hiding behind shields here! Adrenaline is still pumping, god damn.

I have been levelling strength but should I level skill if I'm a cane user?

Yes. Press square on a weapon to see the stat layout, you'll see some letters next to symbols that represent the stats. That represents how much the damage of the weapon increases per point in that stat. The cane has a higher dex rating.

Almost beat the 2nd boss first try but then got killed in two hits, cool.

Clearly I've changed as a gamer since I played Dark Souls, I have no idea how I was so okay with running through the same area over and over and over again every time I got killed by a boss. It's really boring...

Just keep looking around the Cathedral area. Alfred will move to the Cathedral after the boss fight. Down the stairs next to him will be a way to a new area.

Who is Alfred? The dude in the wheelchair? Feeling like I missed someone. Is it the path where I got the Sword Hunter badge with the locked door at the end?

Switched up my main weapons to hunters ax and Kirk hammer. Great contrast between the two IMO. I was rolling with the saw cleaver but it wasn't curting it.

Made my way to
Old Yharnam
and kicked the crap out of the dude there. Had to stop after a 4hr session. Love this game.

That's it, I'm done for today.
father G is a brick wall
my nerves are shot. This game is crazy hard, I think I got soft during dark souls 2, that game was a cake walk compared to this.

Fuck yeah! Just soloed BSB on 3rd try. He's pretty easy to dodge, actually. I went through half the battle before even taking a hit.
Have antidote equipped to the Square button!

BEAT FUCKING
BLOOD STARVED BEAST
. GET FUCKED.

On a different topic, anyone know when you can get the scythe weapon? I wanna use it, but I'm not sure when you get it and I wanna make sure I haven't missed it. No spoilers obviously, but just kinda say roughly after how many bosses it'll become available.

You should record that. I want to see whip vs whip pvp action.

Eileen quest part 2, the npc enemy destroys me. holy fuck

above where? Also I don't think I have the key.

It's the area accessed by taking the elevator immediately from the Cathedral Ward lantern. The key can be found near the Yahar'gul Chapel on the Unseen Village lantern side. There's an opening in the fence by all the old ladies you can drop down.

And I ended up cheesing that fight. Tried many many times.

I don't understand. Shortcuts make the treks to bosses very quick. The shortcuts are basically checkpoints. It's essentially like any other game when you get beat in a boss battle.

My thoughts exactly on the PVP. Its so amazingly intense

Framerate while doing co-op is really really bad..

Finally met up with my host and we beat 2nd boss just the two of us (other co-op buddy left as was likely getting sick of not knowing where host was lol)

Should I ring the beckoning bell or you? Doesn't matter who really since it seems neither of us made it through the machine gunner.

I don't think I've encountered that guy... I'm talking about the NPC to the right of the top of the Cathedral stairs. Or whatever that is. I haven't entered Old Y.

Wait, when are you supposed to kill the Cleric Beast?

In ~30 minutes I stumbled upon the shortcut that opens up the gate on the left-hand side of the bonfire, which takes you to the Beast in like 30 seconds. I assumed he was the first boss so I died like five times trying to beat him but I finally did with my +2 whip and that hunter armor set I bought for 2000 blood whatevers.

Reading the thread I'm getting the vibe he wasn't the "first boss within 20 minutes" type of boss I assumed he was?

Soft point?
Soft cap is the point where increasing a skill gives diminishing returns. For instance (this is just a theoretical example) pumping strength to 20 gives a 15% increase to strength scaling weapons but going beyond 21 only gives it 5% increase or 2% increase so at that point its best to stop increasing strength and focus on a skill the gives a higher return.
