You are mistaking depth with complexity. Games with very few rules like Chess and Go have insane depth, yet aren't very complex. If you value complexity that is of course absolutly fine but don't mistake that with "There is no depth to this". Another take on this is: There are less builds available but yet, because of weapon transformations and guns, builds aren't quite as one dimensional as souls builds.

Father G killed me upwards of 10 times and the three fatties and two advanced enemies en route to him dropped items for me every single time, and 9/10 times they were 2+ blood vials. Are we sure this is right?

That said, nothing will ever replace the whip cane. It's a great weapon :)

Not sold on whip cane yet. Was my starting weapon, and I started feeling it more than at the beginning of the game. But it's a bit slower than the saw cleaver, which often results in taking damage on first hit for me, while I interrupt the monster attack with the saw cleaver.

I think the whip, instead of the cane, is going to be good on pvp, because they can't dash around you. Well, they can, but if you're still whipping your whip you'll still hit them. But again, I would've liked a bit more speed on it.

But I'm curious how you handle it, but it takes some getting used to. I think the saw cleaver is easier because on 'short mode' you can just spam R1 and interrupt most attacks.
 
Just about to beat the game (I know because I helped my coop partner, which put him to NG+ >_>).

Here are some things I can't quite figure out:

- How to get behind the gate right outside the beginning area
- What to do in (late game spoilers)
the dark area that unlocks after beating the Nightmare's Host
- Where the hell are the covenants
- Where to get the Short Ritual Root Chalice

If anyone could provide info (hints preferred to answers) it'd be much appreciated!
 
What do I need to equip the
flamethrower
? Got it recently and I can't hold it yet for some reason. I know theres something I have to do but the menus confuse the shit out of me lol

You may or may not know this but when you drop a msg on the floor, after you have chosen your words hit L1 and choose a gesture.

Trying out new weapons is a HUGE part of the replay ability for me. latter dungeons depths
half your health and have ludicrous enemy mobs. Bosses you have fought before in the chalice get stronger and get new gimmicks and some of the main bosses actually get to show off their tricks with their higher health , and the most secret of secret bosses only appears in the latter tier chalices

The whip-cane is good because of the whip mode's relatively quick yet long range attack. It definitely requires some good awareness of what the whip's range is, but using it you can quickly dart in and out between bosses attacks and hit them and then be out of there before they can retaliate. It's a very "safe" weapon though possibly not the quickest since the damage is a bit lower.

One other thing I found out about messages is that if you leave a Fine rating on one, it will heal the person who left it if they are online. Makes it worth leaving your own messages, might randomly save your ass.

As for the gate in the beginning area, it opens up as a shortcut from Forbidden Woods. There will be a fork in the road before the mini town with all the fall traps.

Visual cue is that it will be on the left side by with a bed of flowers. Just hug the left side and you will come across a house with a red lamp and caged dogs.

Wrap around said house and there will be a cave behind. Go through the cave work you way to the right (water is poisoned and there are tough giant mobs).

There will be a ladder that will lead to the starting area and a device to open the gate.

My notebook is always grayed out / dark and i dont get many if any messages, Shoddy servers right now maybe? I do play online :S
 
my emotes list seems to show how I can make gestures on the touchpad to perform these emotes, but I can't ever get this to work. what am I missing?

More spoilers about them.
One is the Vilebloods in Cainhurst and one covenant opposes them and there is also another.

If you're talking about the motion control to activate it, you have to hold down X, but it seems a bit hard to pull off ones you want.

After using the starter axe for so long (I bought it to replace my cane as soon as I was able to) I'm finding every new weapon I try to be crap. Really I'm sure it's just I'm not used to them but yeah. I think I'll just stick to my axe instead of having to learn new playstyles with new weapons unless I get something really powerful.

Turning into beast form is a lot more specific than turning werewolf ,the beast claws which are effected by beasthood transform into bigger more hairy hands and the beast status is on you and lowers unless you attack things to keep it up, we have not got much at the moment so that might be all for beasthood right now, not too much solid info i found

I think that The
Beast Roar attack is also affected by the beasthood stat and pellets.

Huh. Interesting. Guess being part of the launch zeitgeist means I will miss this kind of stuff everyone will know about in a few weeks like the Darkwraiths in Dark Souls.
 
GAF what is the point of Chalice Dungeons, besides endless fun and new ever changing dungeons?

I know fun is the most important, but is there also other rewards, like new loot, or items?

Do you get something for clearing a chalice dungeon?

It's a From Soft game. A lot of things will be hidden. I just accidentally found the place that holds the teleport dodging item. I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't pressed the dodge button accidentally.
 
So I only just realised the cover art is reversible. It has the original art work that oat preferred on the back. Though personally, after comparing them both in the flesh, I think I prefer the newer one. Just pops more and looks a bit slicker and more modern.
 
IA the spear saw skill or strength based? I have an equal amount of both, but after the third boss I figured I'd need to know which direction to go not to waste blood echoes

I think the idea behind the Chalice dungeon is really neat and I can see the appeal if that's what you're looking for. I just think that it would be better in Dark Souls 1 or 2 where they could populate it with interesting stuff to find along the way. The few hours I've spent in it so far have not felt rewarding at all. None of the enemies or bosses felt all that interesting.

Also trying out new weapons is cool and all, but really any build is probably going to only be able to really take advantage of a handful of them. As a highly skill based character, there are only I think 4 weapons that are really optimal for me. So gotta restart a character to try out a new weapon.
