There are unique items in the chalice dungeons I believe, I know you can find weapons and runes there.

Well I spent 2 hours in there tonight and didn't find anything besides chalice mats so if items do drop, I don't think the commitment is feeling worthwhile. I'm actually at a loss as to what I expect to drop though. Maybe some clothing items. I believe I have every weapon in the game available for me to buy (I'm playing NG+ so there are about a dozen weapons available for me to just buy with blood echoes).

Man, game is super easy than DS now.
I upgraded Ludwig's blade, and one-shotting boss left and right.
Dodge into behind+full charged attack+chain combo==>stun boss==>charged attack==>loop...

Maybe I was lucky with all the stun lock on Amelia, Praal, and Witch.
Was literally spamming R2 combos.

I don't see how a community of people playing and trying things and pvping and exploring can really ever thrive with bloodborne like it did with Dark Souls 1 and 2. there's just so little to work with when it comes to experimenting, coming up with builds, finding new ways to use things, using various weapons and armor... I know I've been ranting on this a bit, but it really is so disappointing the lack of equipment and the lack of builds. characters are basically stronger or weaker versions of eachother, armor not mattering, spells not existing, and only a handful of weapons available to pick from, most of them acquired at the start of the game by any player. this game took a huge step back from dark souls games when it comes to depth of gameplay.

deeply disappointing.

edit: as long as I'm pointign out negatives -- while I don't mind challenge, I find the need to farm blood viles kind of repulsive. I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop attempting a boss because I had no blood viles -- so, tp back to hunter's dream with a long loading screen, tp to central yarnham with a long loading screen, farm the fatties for some viles, tp back to town with a long loading screen, then tp back to where the boss was. that's 4 loading screens to go farm viles just to make more attempts at the boss. that's just malicious/negligent (take your pick) game design. if the load times were short it'd be easier to forgive. being what they are, they should have made you always spawn with a minimum of viles.

Have you played around with the blood gems and runes? Those things can have an impact on your build. As of now I'm rocking the greatsword which I imbued with fire damage. I do have runes that also add poison. The possibilites for those combination + on the fly weapon changing along with imbued guns can make for interesting builds in pvp.

More like Miyazaki made the game too open for its own good.
Seriously, have we ever seen so much people mistaking Father G as the first boss? As much as
Armilla and BSB
constantly switching position as 3rd and 4th respectively? Hell even someone fought Darkbeast Paarl as their 3rd boss.

played on tuesday for 4 hours, got totally lost and took every shortcut that I could find.
First big guy I met was boss 2 and I thought that this game was even harder than expected.

started a new game yesterday, took no shortcuts, found boss 1 and killed him.

Seems like following the obvious route is more helpful than looking for shortcuts on the first try.

You're playing it wrong!

;)

In all honesty, I fucking love slaughtering everything in my Souls' Endgames. You've struggled so long and died so often, that gaining the upper hand feels like the reward in itself.

Unless you've hardly reached half of the game yet.

This irritated me too but luckily there was never a situation this happened where I didn't have plenty of those items that give you blood echoes on hand to just use and then buy a bunch of potions. Yeah it sucks that that experience couldn't go toward leveled, but tbh, the last thing I want to do is grind for potions.

Demons Souls had a limited quantity of healing item system too but I never remember running out of herbs in that game. In fact I'm pretty sure I had a huge stockpile at all times (then again, I played Demons Souls after Dark Souls and found the game extremely easy). I think Dark Souls 2 had a good system for this. You had your limited use gems that dropped off enemies and then your flasks that would refill up to a certain amount at the bonfire. That was a good way to fuse those two systems together.

There ain't shit for weapons in this game is there? I'm three bosses in and haven't found anything to replace the Poison Ivy whip cane.

Seemingly, you can play through the game with the starter weapon.

It definitely seems like FROM has tried to cut away all the crap weapons that most people don't care about.

Or maybe they're just adding them as paid DLC...
Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm 4 bosses in and so far I have:

Hunter Axe
Saw Axe
Saw Spear
Whip Cane
Greatsword
Electric Mace
Gunlance
Gauntlet type weapon

And a bunch of guns including a Canon.

Hum 2 fisrt boss down...
I'm still not used to new move (game need auto lock change when facing multiple ennemies whenthe focused one is down , Change in dogdging mecanic plus the fact enemies can't be relocked if not in vision at this time is annoying)
Plus will wait for loading reduce time patch...it's by far the worst thing (i detected some frame pacing but not at an annoying level to me)

when I pummeled someone with my repeating pistol +6 with the moldy buff applied and nearly killed them in a few shots (before they ran off and healed of course) it kinda gave me a little spark thinking maybe there's a way to make guns good. I'm tempted to say fuck it and increase my bloodtinge (which is 14, because I started as a noble scion) to higher levels. at least I would be different from other people.

Two bosses down I have starting axe/pistol and the sawblade. Happy atm, but I am looking to buy kirkhammer asap, is it worth it?

Basically many boss in Bloodborne is Flamelurker on steroid. The majority of Demon's Souls boss is puzzle boss, not combat unlike Bloodborne. Not counting the lack of shield.

Weapons in the world are extremely rare (I think I only actually found two).

However if you go back to the Hunter's Dream and check the messengers in the fountain, they should have a selection of weapons.

That said, nothing will ever replace the whip cane. It's a great weapon :)

The incentive for changing you weapon in a souls game came from finding it and actually trying it out. Most of the weapon in Bloodborne can be bought and brought up to speed with upgrades and blood gems, making them no slouch. It just takes trying them out, i guess seeing them used in coop or pvp would spur on your curiosity. Cool stuff is cool and you might wanna just check them out for the sake of cool things.

Game just got released. We dont have enough information into the types of runes and gems we can find. Hell even the covenants havent been fully explored yet. The only difference is that Armor in this game has no effect on your build (which is a downside). I am eager to see the builds people will come up with. Hell I wanted to add fire damage to my electric mace just for the lulz.

I like axe better with its AOE, and it is fast also.
But you have so many shards, you can just buy/upgrade everything until you find your favorite weapon.

I read someone state that if you die too frequently in a given area, the enemies in that area will start drop blood vials and ammo less frequently. Can anyone confirm or debunk this?

There are a couple of game play choices that make zero sense. This is one of them, it prevents you from PvPing or playing Co-Op for any extended period of time. I helped 3 or 4 people on a boss, now I never get drops from the cathedral area. Which means I get to farm potions and ammo. How boring.

I have it at +9 with 30 in skill and I'm happy. What I don't understand is that with a certain sword I have, where the number stats are higher (tried without gems to even it out) it hits for less than my cane, even though it's +9 also.

Got Father G to like 2% on the first try, just kept riposting him and it took maybe 30 seconds. His
beast form
stunlocked me though so I couldn't get the last hit in. Hopefully i'll get him this time.

Now as the thread is a bit slower: is there anything pointing against using madman's knowledge as soon as you obtain it?

Well, there is an enemy that drains your Insight.
Fucking lost like 8 with its stupid massive range lock-down spell.
I can't believe From would put an enemy that would do that with no way of getting it back.

Guys, if someone is trying to Play Online and can't, it means the game is yet to be fully installed. Check for it in the storage management - you'll see that Bloodborne takes up 28 gigs, but when you press X to see details, it should tell you exactly how much was downloaded.

Now as the thread is a bit slower: is there anything pointing against using madman's knowledge as soon as you obtain it?

Yes. The more Insight you have, the quicker you accumulate Frenzy. Frenzy is a late game status effect like bleed where if you encounter certain enemies or get hit with certain attacks, it will build up the meter and then take off a nasty chunk of your HP. So against those enemies, you probably want your insight to be lower rather than higher.

That said, I don't actually know if there's a bonus to having a lot of insight either. It seems like an all bad thing but there might be hidden game mechanics that make it a positive too.
