Anyone have any tips for Cleric Beast? I think the trick with it was to get better at countering with your side-arm. I started off really well but I think I freaked out once it landed a few hits in. The field is pretty narrow but I'm wondering if rolling past it and whacking its back is a good strategy too.

(Yes, I know I'm miles behind everyone =P. I never have much TV time during the weekdays but I finally had a good run this morning and made some progress.)

Don't lock on. Chop at its legs. Avoid damage.

Finding out 20 hours into the game that you can change the format of the notes you leave. Spent the whole game till now thinking that messages were pretty limited. Considering that 90% of the notices I've found were single line, I doubt I'm the only one who had this issue.

I cannot stand Amelia.

The notion that she can't hit when you're behind her is bollocks. She can scrape her claw from front to back and swipe half your health off. All the guides and most of GAF talk about this boss like she's some cake walk but there wasn't a single boss in any Souls games I've struggled with as much as this one.

What the hell is happening with the frenzy system in
Mergo's Loft ?
The thing is hurting myself or sometimes it's the ennemy. Do we have to endure it or is there a way to stop it ?

WAIT. . how?

forbiden woods
is stupid long and confusing. Im pretty sure I have no idea where I am if I die and need to retrace, was that the same for everyone? :/

it really could use another lantern

Unlocking the forbidden forest shortcut...

My finally thank freaking god moment so far in this game.

I felt the same until the next part of it is longer and more confusing lol

Damn I missed an NPC and can't get her now because all doors say
no response.

Guessing I can get her in NG+? It's the
whore.

Phew, Amelia down.
Was a lot easier with a Hunter Axe than the Kirkhammer I was previously using. She managed 2 heals which I couldn't do anything about but I powered through. Third heal I started throwing Molotovs at her which seemed to interrupt it. I mostly did a charge attack after her jump attack. For everything else I just kept my distance and played it safe.

Would you say that the quality is maintained this time around? That was my only issue with DS1.
I would say it is much more consistent but it isn't without bad areas. In the second half of the game I did not enjoy the
unseen village
or
nightmare of menis
areas very much. It really picks up at the end though. There's nothing as bad as lost izalith.

I think it I way more consistent in terms of boss fights. There is only one boss fight I thought was bad (
Rom
), and a couple that were not so good (
the witches, the one reborn
). The rest vary from good to great. I've fought a couple of really cool bosses in chalice dungeons too.

LOOOOOOOL I just died against (early-mid game spoilers)
the witch.

First of all don't worry about what other people say or think. None of these bosses are easy—it's just a matter of learning them.

And she CAN hit you from behind, but you can also do enough damage that she'll be stunned so often she doesn't have enough chances to really do damage to kill you.

Eileen the Crow quest
So she finally spawned in Tomb of Oedon fighting the dude; curious how hard she is to defeat. I'm worried she may disappear completely from my game (considering we don't know if her questline is bugged). Really want the Blade of Mercy and her set. Thinking of just killing her now that I'm standing next to hoer.

In my game she died there just before the enemy died also. I have her weapon and armor, just need to grind souls for the rest.

But you get something else later on if she survives.Though it means you can't get her weapon right now.

God, damn... I was confused why everyone was saying that it was a long level... I should have known.

Find the
short ritual root chalice
and that will enable quick search chalice co-op and pvp.
uhm, you get the short ritual root chalice from Hintertomb dungeons but which dungeon exactly and from what boss/layer? Is it random or it's always a specific dungeon in which you find the item.

Great stuff.

So are we talking Demons' Souls tier quality then?

walking around wiht 80k terrified that im going to run into the boss unprepared. just tell me, is the boss area in
forbiden woods
"obvious"?

Okay, so about the bent over old lady in the cathedral...

She's bad, but I think she really only wants to help. I've only had experience with the mean old lady, but she was really distressed and I'd imagine the blanket lady gave her those sedatives to help her. That led to her not worrying about the world and dying, but I don't think it was done out of malice. Of course she drops an Oedin rune which suggests that she's obsessed with blood, but that might just be because she's in Oedin Chapel.

...but maybe she's there because she needs blood. Lol

If you kill her in the graveyard I believe you can then buy them from the store in the hunters dream. However you will not be able to get her covenant rune when you meet her next and complete her task (the enemy you have to beat is very very hard).

lol, tried to use Beckoning Bell again but it said it lost connection and kicked me to title screen. Lost another Insight. Holy shit.

So nobody told me that lanterns can randomly go out when bosses decide to come back to life. I strolled on into oedon tomb when suddenly father g was like "what up bitch" *stab*

Died two times now against the bitch.

What the fuck is going on? Did they stealth buff the fucker?

You'll probably see loads of messages on the ground just before it. There's also a shortcut near the boss so you can go back to spend your echoes. And the boss is pretty easy anyway.

Man, the F
ather
G
ascoigne
storyline with
the daughters
is so fucked up. I feel bad everytime I think about it. Well done, FROM. Didn't feel for NPCs like that since Dark Souls' Fair Lady.

On the gameplay side, does anyone feel like the difficulty is regressive?
Near endgame-spoilers:
Father Gascoigne and Amelia both were harder than any boss outside of the Vicuous Spider. Every other boss seems to give you enough breathing room to heal up, while Transformed Gascoigne and Amelia just wreck your shit constantly without seeming to have a stamina bar. Like, I wouldn't complain if they were mid-way bosses, but right at the start? Followed by basically one-shot bosses like BSB, Witches, Reborn One, Micalosh? Even Amygdala is easier.
Doesn't have anything to do with my skill level either, since I've beat every other Souls before.

So were you able to complete her quest? I'm more worried about her not showing up, maybe it was just delayed for some reason.

I wouldn't have the echoes to buy her gear anyway so it's probably not worth it.
