Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

MASTER CHIEF VID TEXT:

"This... Is this what you wanted? Is this what you were looking for? Was everything you compromised; everything you've done... Worth it? Was it?

You've completed your mission, Spartan Locke. Mine... Is just beginning."

This just got extremely interesting, I thought the second trailer would be about how Chief got shot in the first one.

Master Chief is he who we think he is? Is he Walter White? Does he run a galactic sized drug empire? #HUNTtheTRUTH

Really wonder how they are going to pull off the playing multiple characters thing in Halo 5. We doing the Halo 2 route, or separate campaigns. Anyhow...

Infinity is wrecked in both trailers:

Soooo play the game as who you want confirmed?
Doubt it. I'm guessing you'll play as both for parts of the game but I doubt there'll really be any elements of player choice affecting the story. It's a Halo live action trailer; judging by the others this probably won't actually happen in game.

I don't think it's nearly as simple as "Play the game as who you want".

It wouldn't make sense for future games or story telling, they'd over complicate things with "which ending was cannon" and such.

One possibility is that one of these events happens before the other.
For example: Chief takes Locke down but he survives to then hit Chief back again later and harder -- at the same location. Which is possible but sounds confusing.

We could also be seeing two different 'fictional' tellings of an event that happened, some people believe Locke took Chief down and others believe Chief took Locke down, the media and military warping the story.

This could also just be... what it is... a pre-release piece of video advertising. It may not massively tie into the game at all like some previous Halo trailers haven't. Starry Night doesn't happen ingame nor does the Believe video... but they worked as affective ways to hype us up for the games and give an idea of the tone, locations we may visit and characters we'd see.

I don't even understand the point of having two sides because we know Chief isn't a traitor. Just have Locke lead some rebel spartans and call it a day.

Well the trailers were enough to get Halo 5 Guardians trending on Twitter, guess that's what Walking Dead and good ol' Halo hype can do for ya.

Pairing these trailers was a really smart thing, I'm a fan of how this marketing campaign is unfurling so far!

So time travel, branching paths, reality warping, some Kojima fuckery, what is everyone's guess?

I think it'll be a pretty straightforward campaign story wise, but from a marketing standpoint its really interesting, because they can literally show anything

I was wondering if the clone lived longer than we thought too, if he was in the school till at least 12 but registered dead at 6... If they pull a Dark John with his living flash clone...pls no

Okay. I just listened to the second soundcloud link (A Hairline Fracture) and it sounds like 343 just retconned the shit out of Fall of Reach. The general public knew about the Spartans (vaguely) long before the events of Halo 2, and they also knew there was more than one of them.

edit: Ah. I think I see what's going on.

What part are you referring to? The interviewer telling the woman John is a Spartan?

Reach retconned Fall of Reach.

Wasn't Fall of Reach already literally rewritten after Halo Reach came out and ignored everything Nylund had written?
