Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

SO HYPE. Chief and Locke are not going to be buddy-buddy at the end of this. Chief is going to knock Locke off of his high horse, and Locke so going to be left crawling back to ONI licking his wounds.

It's going to be like the Elite from Halo: The Flood that spent the whole novel trying to slay 117, but failed and underestimated him every step of the way.

We're all seeing the fact that the Master Chief trailer takes place (location time wise) AFTER the Spartan Locke trailer right?

It's like a game of spot the difference.
- The Spartan/Chief statue is damaged way more in the Chief Trailer than it is in the Locke trailer.
- The Locke Trailer's colour pallet and lighting is more suggestive of a morning/midday time while Chief Trailer's colour pallet and lighting is much darker and red and the sun is setting.

HOWEVER, Chief's armor is not damaged in anyway in his trailer.

So either they aren't linked in time like I think or Chief recovers and gets new armor between the two events.

Okay. I just listened to the second soundcloud link (A Hairline Fracture) and it sounds like 343 just retconned the shit out of Fall of Reach. The general public knew about the Spartans (vaguely) long before the events of Halo 2, and they also knew there was more than one of them.

edit: Ah. I think I see what's going on.

They knew about them, but only barely. And they definitely didn't know about the Chief specifically.

why try to tie the two together? They're just two outcomes.

It didn't ignore everything.

And people are still upset with that?

I'm a little bit irked, myself, though I realize that some parts of Fall weren't really tenable (first contact with Elites), I still preferred it overall to Reach's take on the battle.

Saying that it retconned the whole book is just silly, though.

Locke trailer so applicable to Halo right now. Locke is the fans, the statue is Bungie and 343 are Master Chief. Ruins are the MCC.

Could the mess up of the BR logo but DMR in hand be a sign to what's real? They seem like they were really specific with details every where and a small slip like that seems odd.

Shocking really. From the beta, the game needed A LOT of work. Makes me worried to be honest, especially for the readiness of its multiplayer. I would rather have it later with more time if it means a better title. But yeah, 343 doesn't have a reputation for listening to fan feedback...

What part are you referring to? The interviewer telling the woman John is a Spartan?

The first two minutes where the interviewer dude talks about how John showed up out of nowhere at New Mombasa. Makes it sound like no one has ever heard of or seen a Spartan before then.

Reach retconned Fall of Reach.

Not like this. Reach changed some dates. (and asked you to buy that the UNSC knew the Covenant were on Reach a month before it actually fell.)

Wasn't Fall of Reach already literally rewritten after Halo Reach came out and ignored everything Nylund had written?

Not nearly like this. Hairline Fracture is overwriting the Spartan propaganda which was kind of a thing in FoR.

I'm pretty sure its just alternate versions showing the different perspectives. It would be strange if one took place after the other.

Yes, but the only reason you think that is because you want them to rip out the entire thing and rebuild it.

The beta was fine. Plenty of time to iron out the (relatively minor) matchmaking issues and flesh out the content.

Minor thing but Locke is showing up as a friendly on Chief's radar.

Same shot - two different trailers.
Different overall tone... but same shot and the statue is older/more damaged in the second trailer. (Open up both the images and flick between the tabs)

IF these are meant to be two alternate versions of the same thing, why would the statue be more broken in one and not the other?

Oh, nice catch! Very interesting...

OMfg so hyped!!!! These trailers are amazing!!

Currently catching up with everything.. I'm LOVING the Soundcloud clip which is giving us an outsider "civillian" perspective to the war.

Maybe, in two different possible outcomes, if Chief is killed by Locke he dies with a heroic and untarnished legacy. But, if Chief ends up killing Locke, he truly becomes the villain to everyone.

Different set of circumstances leading up to confrontation. In one, Chief's statue takes a beating and they meet later in the day. In the other, Chief's statue is unscathed, and the conflict is earlier.

Or, more likely, the two scenes are entirely metaphorical. Locke's statue is intact because he considers the Chief to be intact, the Infinity is more heavily damaged because he sees the threat to the UNSC as larger, and it's earlier in the day because he's still early in his career.

In the Chief's scene, the statue is missing part of its head because Chief feels incomplete now that Cortana is dead.

Chief has brain damage in his one.

...Chief's one is the fake one!

Now this I like. What would it mean for these ads though? I'm not sure we can have a game like Halo 5 have two such different situations happen depending on characters like this. Maybe it really is just to wet our taste buds for the possibilities of Halo 5, rather than show us something that will happen.

Im thinking its Reach, no particular reason other then it makes sense for a statue.

Could just be Earth.

Could be anywhere, (though Reach is unlikely due to the whole glassing thing). Dude saved the galaxy, there's gonna be statues of him everywhere.

So we're going back to Halo CE shield/life combo?

Cool.

Naw. The beta had 2 bars too; the bottom one is a "time to shield recharge" meter.

EDIT: But... it wasn't segmented like that. Interesting.
