Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Even if the trailer's story is actually in game I imagine it would be cutscene only. First of all we are not going to fight a human as Chief nor fight Chief himself; Secondly, why would anyone think Locke can beat Chief in a 1 on 1 fight? Unless they really go all ten miles by bringing Infinity as air support, but you would need to cross Lasky's dead body to make him do that.

I would assume ONI would outfit Locke with a far more advanced suit, especially as they've worked with Forerunner tech now in the Infinity.

I have to admit though, I wasn't too fond of Locke's voice acting in the H2A cutscenes. However, he sounds a lot better in this ad. Could potentially be a great antithesis for the MC.

Transcription of the new Hunt The Truth episode:

The clone is really, most sincerely dead. The person claiming John was alive and in Elysium City at age twelve was planted there by ONI:

The end of the episode confirms that the clone is really dead:

Ellie is the girl from the Halo 3 Starry Night trailer!

Why would ONI set up an interview with someone lying about him boxing at age 12. Surely they'd realise someone would know the facts about a standout kid who died young?

I guess it is just the whole They're trying to cover up the Spartan programs origins and paint a fake story but I still feel like it doesn't quite make sense.

I guess since the planet was glassed, they assumed all memory of him was too, so they could design a new/better story to cover up?

Fuck no. Halo 3 is too damn outdated in the year 2015. Go play MCC for that.

I want Halo 5.

You can't be serious. Playing through 3 again in MCC just solidifys it was one of the best of all time. It holds up incredibly well. Halo is all about tactically preparing for every fight and 3 does an amazing job doing that.

How much of the Halo universe background do you get from the games? I know there are novels, but it sounds like some of the novels are already retconned out. I've played and beaten all the other Halo games except Halo Wars.

I haven't finished Halo 4 yet, but basically I'm wondering how much I need to start hunting down that doesn't show up in/after Halo 4. I know there's a TV series I can't watch (not Forward unto Dawn, that's on Netflix).

Like, I don't even know who Locke is.

Also, I don't think ONI was expecting the investigator to go digging on his own. Maybe the official story was that he died when he was six but when it got glassed and everything was destroyed, they were able to push another narrative. They thought the glassing would effectively hide the death and in turn hide the kidnappings.

I don't think they're trying to hide the kidnapping. I think they're actually trying to push the narrative that Insurrectionists kidnapped him instead (then they could claim they saved him from them and he became a soldier because of it since his planet/family was glassed).

so its fair to say everyone sees Chief as some type of messiah type figure?

what is he suppose to be their "savior" for is their an ancient prophecy in the haloverse that Chief is destined for or something?

A lot of the worldbuilding (or all of it, in regards to the Forerunners) takes place in the books. None of them have been retconned out of existence, though Reach and Fall of Reach intersect towards the very end of the latter, and some stuff does get overwritten. Like, the Chief's backstory was limited almost entirely to the books until they finally confirmed his name in Halo 3.

Well said. It was so great to see some of that world building spill into Halo 4. It was refreshing, almost.

Calling it now, Locke buddies up with Arbie to track down MC under the pretence of wanting to bring MC 'back into the fold' (but in reality he just wants to bring him to ONI for testing/etc.). When they find him Locke kills Arbie and this pisses off MC who eventually has a 1:1 faceoff with Locke, beating him to absolute shit.

Not cool. Arbiter should not die!

Halo 3's movement and slot machine BR prevent it from being the GOAT, but the campaign was incredibly well put together.

Still, I'm ready for some new Halo. The 5 beta did a hell of a lot right, even more than 3, IMO.

This man gets it.

If Halo 5 can replicate the scale and quality of Halo 3's encounters we are in for one hell of a game.

Halo 3 was the best in the series but not because it didn't include sprint or ADS.

Halo 5 can be just as great if they can incorporate what made halo 3 great into a next gen engine. If they can capture that feeling of being apart of a huge galactic war with you being the centrepiece again then Halo 5 will be great.

Back on topic, I am pleasantly surprised by this hunt the truth stuff combined with the commercials. That cliffhanger at the end!

Anyone think Locke on his travels is changed by something he finds along the way unwillingly, under the influence of someone or something that also allows him to be an equal or superior force to Chief. Perhaps ONI unleashed something in their search for more powerful technology and now they need the Chief to stop it but his loss of Cortana affects him greatly but ONI can recreate her as long as Chief gets Hasley back to base Cortana off again. I think some branch has screwed up big time or under the influence meaning Locke is a lonewolf in search of Chief or a compromised Spartan looking to kill him.

Thanks for this, I feel like I must of been asleep playing the games reading this thread. I don't understand much of what's being said.

Good to know! Hopefully there are electronic versions of the books available.

So Locke is from one of the books, or is he from the XBone TV series?

Yeah judging by the beta, H5 BR > H3 BR

I'll take a hit scan BR over the H3 travesty any day. Lotta great things about H3 but the BR was not one of them.

H3 had a great sandbox and some great weapons...but yeah br sucked and the movement speed was way too slow...otherwise it is the best halo multi so far

H5 beta made me think halo 5 could improve on it in every single way

I must be out of the loop, but I never had an issue with the BR beyond getting owned by it again and again and again. Spread is fine and overblown.

I never get why people had a problem with the BR spread. It balanced the BR out.

Adding randomness to a weapon doesn't equal balance. All they needed to do was tighten the spread, lower aim assist/bullet magnetism. Making the strafing quick and responsive instead of sluggish would have helped out too.
