Dark Souls was created to bring the series to multi-platform since Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls.

Bloodborne is a deliberate change, not a necessity.

Doesn't mean that they can't change it for the worse. The loot system is categorically worse. I'd argue that the trick weapons are are an improvement over the wealth of useless weapons that would drop previously but that's it. In terms of armour sets and, more importantly, fashion souls, your choices are super limited. And they didn't have to be.

Even if heavy armour isn't a thing in the game, let the enemies drop their sets. Most of it is cloth anyway. Surely it wouldn't matter.

Yeah, the Hammer part is too slow to do anytning

I use the main kirkhammer all the time. Its R2 while running is great, its charged R2 knocks people(And even some of the big bosses) flat and has a followup of flinging the away while doing massive damage if you hit R2 again. Its normal attack has more than enough range to hit most mobs before they hit you. Overall it's a good weapon.

I mean, there's on set that actually looks like 'armour'. I get that the whole hunter mythos makes the focus on cloth fit the world more (and the cloth does look really, really good) but there's only so many cloaks/robes that I can deal with.

I remember being super excited when I found each chest/new vendor in prior games because it meant there'd be a new, more awesome set of armour to work towards. Not the case anymore when it's all interchangeable. And not just visually. The stats are almost the same. The only time you'd ever want to change up is when you go to the poison/frenzy areas as there's obvious sets for those.

Definitely my least favourite change from game to game. Sure, there's less trash loot clogging up your inventory but there's also less genuine excitement whenever I find a new item.

That's not really true. Aside from Poison and Frenzy resist, there's sets for every type of damage and they make a difference. Can you run around in just about anything? Sure. Does it make your life easier if you match a set to what you're fighting? Absolutely.

Take the Cainhurst armor for example. It has the highest base Physical Defense in the game and extremely high Blood and Thrust Defense, but very low Blunt Defense. The high base Physical negates the low Blunt defense some, but you'll still take more damage from Blunt and a lot, lot less from Blood and Thrust. It also as pretty low resists in other areas and you'll take more damage from magic type attacks because of it.

Then there's the Choir set, highest Arcane defense in the game. It is a big help in fighting bosses with Arcane attacks and something that might have wrecked you before is much easier to manage if you don't dodge it now.

I'm not ashamed to say I cheesed both of them by using the tree next to the house with the woman wailing as a barrier. Dropped down from high, pulled the blunder-hunter first, tree blocked his shots, my extended axe R2 could still hit him.
Did the same thing for the other hunter.

That was a headache so I skipped them for now. I'm thinking of going back and trying this.

Where do I go after
Rom
? I used the bonfire in the
red moon
area after and now I don't know which lantern takes me back there

Just go through the path that the game has forced you down and all will be explained. Also, lower your insight, NOW. The area the game leads you to adds a shitload of gunners if you have high insight(Figured that out after the fact by being summoned by others).

Holy crap at
Yurt/Lautrec beast
Missed him in NG. Tried about 4 times and I think managed 1 hit on him in the 1st 3 goes.

Doesn't help that the
terrain is super sketchy either

Completely lost in the
Lecture building
only way out is the
Nightmare Frontier
as far as I can see but I'm getting hammered.

Yeah, but it's so obvious which set is best for which situation. I always felt like that was something to fall back on should you be having a rough time but not a necessity (apart from areas with heavy status debuffs like poison)

And even then, the differences are minor. We're talking like 10-points each way. While that should actually make sets more interchangeable and thus allow you to choose based upon aesthetic, there's still not much visual variety. It's still a disappointing system compared to the Souls' games.

It's a lot more than 10 points each way, have you actually looked at the sets?

Also you don't get all of the sets right away. Some of the best ones are from optional, high level areas, and they do make a difference, and it is great finding them.

To me the first half of this game is MUCH stronger than the second half in almost every way. The locations, enemies, bosses, etc.

Maybe it's just me but slogging through one dark, confusing, and/or weird location after another is simply not as much fun. I still have a couple bosses to finish so maybe it will pick up again. Still think it's a great game but it will likely end up my least favorite of the Soul's-type games.

Edit: Except Cainhurst Castle, which was awesome...

Most definitely agree here.

I can't believe I'm saying this but i sort of miss the forbidden woods. It feels like im just tripping over bosses now.

Has anyone else had a weird bug(?) happen after beating
Micolash
? When I defeated the boss, the screen went completely black. I figured it was part of the story or something so I started walking around a bit. The PS4 was still running but the menu in game didn't work. After a minute or two I took a break because I figured it must be an unusually long loading screen. But when it had gone something like 4 minutes there came a
sobbing sound reminiscent of when the baby at the nurse boss cries but mixed in with what sounded like Micolash crying.
I waited another minute but nothing happend so I shut down the application. When I started the game again everything was normal. I stood in the boss room and I couldn't see anything abnormal.

In any other game I wouldn't have paid any attention to it but I know there's weird story elements and contextually unlocked segments of the game, so I'm just wondering if it was a bug or not?

Just keep rotating around the tree.
Good luck. :)

Thanks for the

No, really though, thanks!

You should have a lamp in the third grave that's called Yahar'gul, Unseen Village, that's where you were. If you didn't use that lamp, go back to rom's boss room and take a look around and find a crazy lady. If you both found the crazy lady and didn't have that lamp, go to the cathedral ward, and take a right at the boss room till you make it to the end.

Quick question about the Crow Hunter lady:

So I went back to Father G's boss fight at night and there was another hunter there that immediately comes at me. I'm fighting him and all the sudden my attacker gets shot from an unseen part of the area.
It's Crow Hunter gal!
So I back off to rest/heal and this other hunter just goes nuts on her. I just watch, because I don't know if it's a story thing or what. I don't want to jump in because I don't know if I can accidentally hit her. They are literally trading blows right next to each other. Before too long the Crow Hunter goes down. I eventually take the attacker out, get some items, but... was the Crow Hunter supposed to die? Did I fuck up by not being more active in tag-teaming with her? :(

You fucked up. But hey,
the second hunter in her questline is harder than any boss in the game
, so maybe you lucked out

That's Eileen the Crow. If you kill that person and she lives, you get an emote and an item. You then are charged with killing ANOTHER mark for her later down the road. You're gonna have to retry this in NG+, I'm afraid. She's supposed to survive this. There is another path where she becomes hostile if you never help her, or speak to her after the sewers.
