I got two more questions if anyone can answer:

-How do I join a covenant in this game?
-Where can I see how many hours I've played so far?

So I dont have to search thru thousands of posts...

Does anybody know a link to a site that gives good advice for starting this game? I played for 1 1/2 hours last night and at best I got mabye 5 mintues into the game. I know I need to probably do a few things to help my chances and I am hoping there is a guide that can give me some good starting pointers.

All I have to say to this is keep at it... Once you figure out the combat and controls it'll be a lot easier to progress through the remainder of the game.

I believe the covenant is tied to the runes. As for the time spent, when you first boot up, instead of hitting continue, hit load. Then you can see total play time.

Bumping this again. Anyone have a quick reference to what the letters mean on the weapons (A, B, C, S) and what strategy is good for the average player?

Letters refer to how well it scales based of that stat.

Lets say a weapon require 10 skill to equip and it has a D scaling. It might add +1 damage for each skill you pump into your character over the base (10).

Lets say the same weapon has a S scaling. It might add +10 damage for each skill point you dump into your character.

This wiki page is from Dark Souls but the system works similar in BB:

Last night I fought my 11th boss, and one shot it. YIS
I also met up with an old friend, who startled the fuck out of me.

This game is like they took Demon's Souls and squirted a sauce on top comprised of Devil May Cry, Castlevania and Eternal Darkness.

And for some reason I can't help but think they added a pinch of Punch-Out.
It's probably just me being reminded of those big guys with bricks.

Aside from forging your weapons with Bloodstones, I know there are Blood Gem Imprint slots for each weapon as you upgrade. Can you swap out Blood Gems from the weapons after you've inserted them?

I have a bunch of Blood Gems, but most of them are duplicates or garbage...what should I do with them? Sell or is there someway to combine gems?

Thanks!

Yep, you can swap everything out whenever you wish. Same with runes, when you eventually get that tool.

OK, so I have a question for anyone who has encountered a certain someone in a certain area:

In Old Yharnam, I encountered the man to like to shoot his machine gun at me. I get to the tower and I go aggro on him, knocking him off the tower. He drops an item. I can't get the item because it's out of my reach, literally. What's the item that he drops and is it important?

Well, I decided to call in co-op to beat V
icar
A
melia
. First try. Thank god that's over with. Now I'm killing
crazy women in Hemwick
.

Tell me, am I actually going to the right place.

Also: I bit the bullet and put 4 levels in STR so I could grab the
Holy Blade
. I like it, but it's actually weaker than my Cane (which is like +5 at this point). is it worth investing to upgrade the blade? Does it get really good, even if I'm focusing more on skill than strength?

So E is the lowest?

So I offered my flesh to the
altar
after beating
Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos
And nothing is happening... What did I do?

While standing on the tower exit to the main menu and then continue.

She's a side boss pretty much. Killing her grants you runes.

I like that it's better balanced than Dark Souls, doesn't have areas that frustrate the hell out of me (I'm looking at you, final 10% of the game!) and the coop actually works unlike Dark Souls which wouldn't let me connect with anybody ever.

So overall I think I love it more than Dark Souls.

I don't see how any of this is true, other than the areas part(if you're only referring to crystal cave and Lost Izalith, I'd understand). Especially the Coop part, the coop is just as broken as it was in Dark Souls.

I mean, i guess it's better balanced, but that's due to the lack of variety.

It is important (lets you buy certain items at the bath messengers) but the good news is that if you just exit the game and reload it, the item will be right on the ledge.

You could have done
Hemwick
prior to that boss, but it doesn't matter. The game is pretty much open once you reach
Cathedral Ward
.

Got it. I've seen a blue rune slot in my stats but I haven't found any runes I can put in there. Where or when can I get them?

Beginner's guide video and text guide in the OP.

want to make sure...scaling is going along with your level build, correct?

Correct, if you invest heavily in STR, you want weapons that have high scaling in that stat (B+). As you level the weapon, the scaling usually improves also. So something that may be a B scaling at low level, once you get it up to say "Weapon +9" that scaling may be A or even S.

When you are at the bench to level your weapon, before you even upgrade look at the bottom, the preview of the upgrade as B > B (the 2nd B being blue) on STR will mean the scaling is improving if you level up the weapon. If a weapon starts out at its basic level with a B scaling, it will most definitely reach A/S by the time it is maxed out (+10).

After BSB, you have to go to the bottom of the tower that opens up at Cathedral Ward and exploring that leads you to opening the gate without 10k.
you actually opena different gate, the 10k one will still be closed. The one you open is right outside the cathedral ward lamp, the 10k is over in the large courtyard with 2 giants. They both get you to the cathedral

I have a lvl 67 character with a ludwig holy blade +8
stats:
Vit:30
Sta:25
Str:30
Skill:29
arc:6
blood:4

Should i keep putting in str and vit or put some more in skill stat too?

She's a side boss pretty much. Killing her grants you runes.

She's required to access a new area that's required to beat the game.

Edit: Whoops misread, you're talking about something else.

Scaling goes with your stats. Something with scaling in strength and dexterity goes up when you increase those stats by a certain amount.

To see the hours played just go to load game from the main menu and your playtime will be next to your character.

Can't help you with covenants yet I'm afraid. I'm not far enough into the game.

I finally got to and defeated the
BSB
on the 1st try last night, except the
poison took me down
after I finished it off. I had to fight back there to get my dropped echoes.

I feel like I'm so far behind lots of GAF but I'm still really enjoying every little session I can get in.

Took down the Blood Starved Beast after about five tries. Was straight up like the big opening battle in Edge of Tomorrow.

Couldn't get the pungent cocktail 'trick' to work. Seemed like it would disappear if I threw too far but too close and it might not have noticed.

Loved the Demon's Souls Iron Knight and DS Gaping Dragon nostalgia present in the
The One Reborn
boss fight.

For the Dark
beast
Pa

boss, I somehow beat him but I was basically just swinging wildly as all heck was breaking loose. And if you lose your positioning things can get really hairy. The frame rate was also bad but that's kinda par for the course on bosses...

T

was a piece of cake, easiest boss so far imo...

Did you unlock the shortcut to that boss? It should only have taken 1-2 minutes to get back to the boss arena and you'd only have to kill 2 enemies at most, one with a backstab.

Anybody else have this problem? Mostly happens in the Hunters Dream. I'll go into a menu like Storage. Then, as I exit the menu, without pressing anything, it will do a strong attack. It also happens with the doll and I've actually ended up killing her trying to upgrade. Very annoying.
