I just lost a couple hours of progress.
Elevator was stuck in the down position so I couldn't get to the boss. The lever said the device was inoperable and when I did use it nothing happened. No amount of zoning or exit/reloading helped. Had to roll back to a cloud save :\
For comparison in Call of duty: Advanced warfare only 51.7% of players finished the second mission and only and 26.9% finished the whole game. this all on PS4.

Like others said check other games and their percentages. Especially for a "hard" game like this that is the first exclusive in a long time really worth buying lots of people actually bought it because of hype. Like two of my co workers. Yet only after an hour or so they stopped because they didn't know what they were in for and couldn't even get past the werewolves on the bridge. So yeah those percentages are pretty impressive.
Just killed him 10 minutes ago, also was annoyed by his beam attack. My trick was just to stay very close to him. He has no weapons, so when he wants to throw a punch just dodge. Same for his tentacle attack, just dodge. Plus, he's super vulnerable with the tentacle attack. If you're very close to him, you can easily stun him when he tries to charge his arcane attack. You have to do it quick though, do it too late and he still manages to release his attack causing lots of damage or even instant kill.
I am loving this game so far. Every step I get further feels like I have earned it, and not just arrived to it and it is really satisfying because of it. I have previously completed Demons Souls, and played a bit of Dark Souls, but I can't decide which I think is harder.
I have a question about Old Yarnham, would be great if someone could help me out.
I've advanced quite a bit in this area, but I died once to the turret guy (climbed the ladder), then decided to see if there weren't any shortcuts or bonfires. However I keep on advancing and I've only found one shortcut that leads back to the hunter outside. I'm now in a beast infested town, but is there something close that gets me back to this area quickly?
thanks for helping me out, I'd kinda hate to lose my progress now. I've also found a ritual of blood (?) on an altar.
You are supposed to wait until she gets down in the sewers. Like when you turn around from the cathedral ward lamp and walk back to the Tomb Of Odeon. She will sit down there and will have given birth to a "baby". You have to kill that baby to get it.

So, the shortcut you found is the very long ladder? When you're in the 'beast infested' town, if it's where I think you're talking about...
a werewolf should leap out a door at you, go in the building he came from and go up the stairs until your reach an iron bar door, open it and follow the path and you should be somewhere you recognise.

There's a shortcut a bit further on that basically leads back very close to the Old Yarnham lamp. You unlock a
door in a circular tower that spirals up. And if you die, you can head straight out of the Old Yarnham lamp, go toward the edge in front of you, then keep falling off and you'll come back to that door that leads into the spiral staircase. It's very close to the boss of that area. iirc, it's the building where a beast jumps out of a door.

Ugh I wish these chalice dungeons would jut end already. I'm on what I think is the last two Pthumeru dungeons and I really hope the other three categories don;t have as many as this one does.

Any tips or tricks? Tried him twice last night before going to bed. First time I got him to half health and ran out of vials and 2nd time I just ran in and got slapped around.

That werewolf bursting out was the last thing that happened to me, but I was too scared to go in there for ambushes. I'll go check it out, thanks a lot guys!
So for anyone that thinks a gun build can't be viable:
Here is a video fighting against
Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos
, I pretty much only used VC attack and Evelyn, I messed up the video and trimmed the wrong stuff, shot it for the rest of the fight at a distance and won. I think this could be a very viable build later in the game, my Bloodtinge here is 30 I think otherwise 35 but not higher.
Its sucks cause the area looks amazing and the atmosphere there is insane, but it's impossible to want to search around the place and look for loot. I just run thorugh the damn place and looked up the area of the key, that place was ridiculous. The best part of it all is the nice little present waiting to kill once you finish that first part lolololol
The 3 hunters that you can't aggro indivdually, nope they all come at once, all the time, each time. joyful.
Least the boss was a pushover I guess. I'm glad to be done with the area.
I did actually manage to fight two of those hunters together and then kill the last one individually. One seemed to stop chasing after I ran through a shortcut I'd opened in the earlier version of the area. xD
I tried helping someone through the area, got summoned into the start, and the dude got invaded. What a piss take that was. He kept hiding behind the mobs on the bridge, and we kept on having to kill respawns because the bell maiden is in the room behind him.

I think the interconnectivity inside each area is great, but I wish there were more inter-area shortcuts. I don't think I've run into any so far actually, but I guess that could change. Still a huge step up over Dark Souls II, just not quite at the same level as Dark Souls.

That's how I feel about the area that follows Yhargul. So much atmposphere, great level design and architecture but I'm always on my guard and have my head down.
what does the message mean ? was something like seel your nightmares. And whats up with the old dude ? Should I just continue withe the next level with the giant spiders on buildings or do something else? As far as I know I can do BBP and the nightmare section
