More like people are bitter over something being "anime as hell" when regardless of tone SMT has always been inundated in anime tropes. I get the fact that people wanted grimdark SMT, but that simply isn't the case. Saying it's too anime on an SMT game is a misnomer though. It's always been "anime"

you are right, this game could still turn out good, of course, but why not try a new ip or even some kind of SMT/Persona spin off? keep the FE characters a surprise, that way nobody has these expectations if the game doesnt look exactly like FE or SMT IV

Sounds like they started at SMT x FE and we're like wait this makes no sense, let's just make a new game like Persona, but we can't change the title, it's too late.
I'll check it out if the sexy fun time anime is toned down a bit, otherwise it'll have to be a pass. Was reallllllly hoping for some turn based goodness.

Maybe PS3 instead of Vita due to graphics, but I honestly with no hyperbole agree with you. I'd have guessed it that too.
Which is why the Persona comparisons really baffle me. It looks like an Idol RPG.

People acting like anime is one genre. Yes both series have anime styles but there is a difference between over the top, jpop, fanservice crap and other more serious series. Both Fire Emblem and especially SMT tend to be more serious and far away from this games setting and style.

No, I think of stylized pointy teenagers, not anime, since as far as I know other than the weird OAVs from way back when, SMT has never really BEEN an anime compared to Persona.
And I think we all know what people mean by 'anime' here. They don't mean "oh it looks like it could come from an anime!". They mean it looks like a fanservice-y pandering loli-ridden made-by-Compile-Heart type game.
Watching the video again. I still like it. There are clear Fire Emblem influences on the guy's armor and the girl pegasus rider. The turn based battles with enemies that look like they were more Persona based than SMT.
Looks like they're trying to go for a mix of that with a contemporary setting by letting the main characters use FE and "SMT" powers.

I'll admit to being disappointed by no real SMT connections and the sleezy outfits, but this still has me greatly interested and it's cool that it's more of it's own thing! GREATLY interested! Atlus does no wrong for me!

It's pretty obvious that when people say that it's "too anime" they mean that it's too far into the idol-RPG side of things, not that they are unaware that SMT also has anime influences.
Or Persona as imagined by otakus.

I don't think it was going to be an exact crossover to begin with. I wouldn't even know how it works.
I need to see more before I say more. I'm glad though that there's still an FE (hoping for another SMT game )
They showed it off in the NA direct. Dunno about the EU one but I'd imagine it's coming.
