Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

This scene reminds of a certain event from SMT I...

I really liked the escalation in SMTI, from the day to day routine to armed revolt with demons to the war between hell and heaven in a post-apocalyptic world. Although chaos and law continued, I feel like none of the later mainline SMT games attempted that kind of escalation again, which is a shame since SMT I is dated in many ways. The closest thing is probably Devil Survivor, but that's a SRPG.

Although I wasn't expecting this game to turn out to be like this, if this is the route the game is taking, I'll be looking forward to it.

I don't get what's up with the demon/persona(?) design though. It looks like neither FE nor SMT. Also, young Tiki's presence is kind of odd... This obviously can't be the future or Archanea/Ylisse, since she'd need to be older.

Literally none of this reminded me of either SMT or FE.

More neptuna tier bullshit than either of those.

Looks tacky as all fuck too, no thanks.

The OG trailer simply was a "hey you like these two series?....well we doing stuff together now...get hyped".

People took that as OMG MARTH VS MARA CONFIRMED...instead of Atlus is teaming up with IS and thus are let down.

sucks for them

What if some people just don't like this?

Oh right, I get it, its ok to use a term incorrectly because other people do it? Stellar reasoning. I'm sorry that I "pedantically" think that words should be used to represent what they actually mean on a message board so peope reading the thread dont have to divine from context and their psychic gift (dont worry its a dark psychic gift so its not "too anime") what other people man. I never implied you couldnt use it incorrectly, of course you can use it incorrectly, but that doesnt make your use of it any less nonsense, so have at it.

Actually, yeah, since that's kind of how language works and evolves. If most people would understand what someone means when phrasing something a certain way, then it's pretty much fair game. These days, literally = literally or figuratively, anime = anime or an adjective meaning something is like specific sorts of awful anime.

It does make sense to use it that way, since most people understand it. Also, relying on context clues is a totally acceptable aspect of using the English language. There are quite a number of acceptably usable yet ambiguous English sentences, the meanings of which are only discerned via context.

I...I'm simply at a lost for words after that trailer...Half way through it I tried convincing myself that this was just something else they where making on the side. To my dismay it was not.

This is not what a SMT and FE cross over would look like not even remotely. I'm okay with the real and fantasy worlds co-existing that's Persona. And to what everyone is saying about this now just being Persona X FE (which I would love to have) this is clearly not it not even Persona goes anywhere near as far with the fan service as...this is going. Persona had its feet firmly on the ground, this does not, clearly.

And as for the actual gameplay...from what little i could make out it is not even Tactical Turn Based like FE or Brutal traditional turn based demon fusion combat.

As disappointed as I am, I still plan on keeping up with this game's development.

If it were just FE, I don't think anyone would care. It's that this really crushes the dreams of a modern occult SMT crossover. Instead it's more like an idol game.

And you know it is an idol game because ?
Macross have idol bs in it. And it is one of the best mecha anime ever.
Edit: Phrasing

I literally thought it was an Idolmaster game until I started seeing battle footage. I can't blame SMT fans for being upset.

As much of a persona and FE: Awakening fan I am...this looks like...I don't know.

To anime for my taste, really shock SMT is even associated with the title.

That's what I'm talking about. That's something I'd like to see them pull off.

this will never leave japan will it?

it was on the na stream apparently so maybe it will and it will sell twelve copies.

and reggie will be like what's wrong with you?

Atlus are way too doped up on Dancing All Night, clearly.

Edit: why are people asking if this will be localised when it was shown on an NA/EU Direct? Think for maybe 5 seconds?

That's Macross. Not Shin Megami Tensei. If SMT1 had song and dance mixed in with the demonic apocalypse from the get-go, that'd be a different story.

What even was the original concept? All we knew was that it would have characters from both franchises

I mean I'd love some Demi Fiend action but besides the fanservice what would the game even be?

Well, we did see SMT protags flicker by in the teaser, lots of people speculated they'd be playable. And I don't feel like we're going to be seeing them anymore if this change in tone is indicative of anything.

Jokes aside though and being totally down to earth

I think this was literally the worst trailer I've ever seen from a major developer

This is something I'd expect from NIS or the Neptunia people not a game that has SMT in the title Jesus Christ

Look quite nice, I think people are overreacting a bit about that taking off her clothes part (which I don't care, don't find it good or bad, kinda... whatever), but I saw some cool looking characters definitely inspired by FE (dude at the 21 second mark), someone with a horned helmet riding a fucking motorbike, a fucking crazy creature that I can't even describe (54 second mark), someone mounting a pegasus, floating heads with spikes, a clearly ruined city... I don't know, I think maybe the colors and the music are what's keeping people from seeing something SMT or FE inspired, but I see it. There's definitely something crazy going on with the music, idol kind of stuff (which I'm not a fan), but I definitely need to see more, and some reactions with the little stuff we saw are pretty crazy.

I don't know why all the different artstyles.

It's like FE, Persona and Akiba's Trip while being neither.

Would we even want to see them at this point? I wouldnt.

I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one let down by how this game ended up. I wanted a legitimate crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei. This is not that.

I will probably buy it in the long run, but it will take some time for me to warm up to it. :/
