Splatoon Amiibo Pack, Battle Dojo & May 29th Release Date Announced

I didn't see it posted yet, but in today's Nintendo Direct it was announced that Splatoon will be getting it's own brand of amiibo.

The amiibo are being sold in a 3-pack that includes an Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl & Squid. Alternatively, you can purchase separate boy & girl amiibo as single figures. These are to available when the game launches on May 29th. I almost forgot! When one of the supported amiibo is scanned into the game you will receive a set of challenges to complete, depending on your amiibo. Upon completing these challenges you'll be rewarded with exclusive clothing options, including samurai armor and a schoolgirl outfit.

Limited edition box includes a Squid amiibo and is only available in Europe.

Also announced was the Splatoon Battle Dojo where-in you and a friend can hone your skills in a special 1v1 match that features a different set of rules than we have previously seen. In this mode, each player's objective is to pop more balloons than their opponent. In this mode one player will play on the TV and the other will be using the Gamepad. This mode will also use the same maps that are available in online multiplayer.

(and I don't think there was any mention of a triple pack in Europe, looks like the special edition is the only way to get the Squid amiibo)
 
I saw that 3-pack in the Direct and was like "sweet, only one SKU, this might actually be easy to find!" and then Bill was like "oh yeah, you can also buy two of them separately" and I was like "shit"

European direct implied that there's no 3-pack, the green squid is only available in the CE. Looks like they're trying different approaches in different regions.

Did they say what the Green Squid Amiibo did? The boy and girl would give special missions, but I don't think I caught a purpose for the squid.
 
The 1 vs. 1 local mode will use the same maps as the online modes and in the treehouse stream the second player was playing with a Wii U Pro controller.

And I need to buy so many amiibo, but the Splatoon's 3-pack (and Yoshi) have the highest priority.

Edit: huh, no 3-pack for Europe? Pff, I don't want the game digitally. Tough decision.

CE for me it is then. nintendo won this round.
 
Finally got to know about the local multiplayer

But yeah I need these. As soon as they go up on pre-order I'm getting them all.

yoshi Amiibo is too cute to pass up (and I always wanted that yarn yoshi to begin with. Being an Amiibo is just bonus.)
And then the rest of smash amiibos for obvious purposes.

I still don't give a poop about Mario Party amiibo.
 
They look great. Knowing Nintendo though, they aren't going to produce many of these Splatoon Amiibo are they. Better preorder while you can.

Also nice to see them embrace the Skylanders/Infinity triple packs.

Lol maybe its just the lighting or cheap plastic. I was just thinking this was the only chance they had to make a darker skinned Amiibo since none of their other characters have dark skin. I'm sure some of Nintendo's darker skinned fans would have appreciated it but whatever.

I don't like the guys design personally so i think i'll get the girl if i do pick one of them up. I'm certainly getting the special edition with the squid lol.

The life of someone who wants to casually walk into a store and buy one and actually wants to use amiibo as they are intended and not just frantically collect all of them because they might be rare and keep them in their cases or attempt to collect them in order to scalp them later at a higher price.

Amiibo was not made for people like me.

Amazon had them added but not available
 
The Amiibo DLC for this game is starting to make me dread what Nintendo is going to be doing in the future with it. On disc outfits is one thing, but now they're doing on disc missions locked behind them.

That's 1 thing I complain about with the Amiibo line. It's not the first time they've done this kinda crap
Hyrule Warriors had a weapon on disk locked behind an amiibo
Smash had a feature locked behind amiibos

I think the boys are kind of cool. Also if look closer you'll see that boy inklings are different than the girl other than the hairstyle. Previously most people believed that the boys inklings are girl inklings just with different hair styles.
