Have you read much Lovecraft? If so, what would you recommend starting with?

The King In Yellow too, that's the book that inspired True Detective isn't it?

ShemhazaiX is right to grab one of the anthologies since they are all mostly short stories and fairly quickly consumed. Off the top of my head I'd say things like:
Shadow Over Innsmouth
Call of Cthulhu
At the Mountains of Madness
The Dunwich Horror
Shadow Out of Time
Rats in the Walls
Dagon
The Music of Erich Zann, etc... are all great reads that I think have bits which will really resonate with Bloodborne players.

As for TKIY, I wouldn't say it directly inspired True Detective per se-- especially if you've seen the series all the way through-- but certainly co-opts a lot of symbolism; totally up for debate though as some of my friends swear by a closer relationship between TD and TKIY. Still, it's a great read, imo, and predates Lovecraft.

Okay so more endgame spoiler questions:

Just killed Mergo's Wet Nurse. I'm back at the Hunter's Dream and the house is burning down. I had an idea who would be the final boss....

Question: I just gotta killed Ebriatas and I'll be done with the optional bosses, right? Or are there more? I killed Amygdala and that mushroom dude, BSB, Cleric Beast, the witches...Who else?

Also, where can I find me a blood rock?

Use cage elevator after where you fight micolash. Jump throught window. Work your way around it is a loot you see on the right side inside this building with big Romanesque pillars.

So...... I just advanced a game state and I'm not sure what caused it.

The old lady at cathedral ward is saying "yarnham is done for" and eileen has disappeared. I decided I was going to go help her fight Henryk and now she's gone :( I just got to the forbidden woods, what caused all this to happen?

Well go help her!

GUYS I really need help!
I just checked on the people I sent to the church and the old lady is dead and the whore is no where to be found! idk what happened. It might have been the guy I sent over. he looked suspicious but I said fuck it... Am I screwed?

Just grab one of the anthologies, they're all rather short stories. Shadow Over Innsmouth is good. Nyarlathotep is a good one to read because the character is reused. Also the Cthulhu story is great, can't remember the exact name though.

Cheers both, thanks for the replies. Looking forward to it :)

yes. you won't be able to reach the end game boss, your save game is screwed and you need to start the game over.

why do people keep asking if they are screwed ?!? From wont create walkthrough break when you make a bad decision

Ive defeated those 3 hunters in the Unseen Village, and also acquired my Crow Set! :D Was able to complete that quest.

Now I wonder... Is there a shortcut to the boss area? I mean I found a elevator but going from the second bonfire with the hunters taken down is way better. Is there any other shortcut in the way?

I spend the better part of yesterday night fighting my way through the Forbidden Woods, this area makes me wish this game had a map because it is confusing as fuck, but eventually I found the boss of the area, the Shadows of Yarnam, did well enough on my first try until
the last shadow summoned a giant snake that can apparently one-hit kill me, shit was so infuriating

This Boss battle is so far the worse I've had, fighting multiple enemies that are constantly rushing at you shows that this game's mechanics are much better suited for 1-on-1 encounters. I've done worse and worse each time I've tried, but at least now I manage to memorize the route to the Boss.

Any tips on how I should be approaching this one? I tried summoning help, but couldn't get anyone to show up, I'm wondering how that works, would the bell attract helpers anywhere on the woods or you have to be close to them physically where they would appear? if so then it maybe be best to stay near the lantern to wait for summon.

This one also gave me a rough time, even before I got in there to fight them the framerate went down to a crawl and was unplayable..this happended at least three times before I got a strat down to look down when entering the fog, which still made it go down to a crawl but allowed for a recovery after a few seconds. Then the boss fight itself requires patience. You have to keep moving, and I actually didnt lock on unless I was goignto engage the enemy. I just did circles around the area, perhaps they didnt need to be that wide. BUt jsut enough so that you get back to the bigger rock where you can hide behind, then peg off whomever comes around the corner. Still used a good 10 -12 vials on this fight and it was really annoying when they got their snake capabilities. Just keep movign and only give a few hits at a time to them tops and you should be able to outlast them.

O.K, just backstabed a giant pig using the Kirkhammer. Just so wrong on so many levels

Excuse me while i'll just go and wash my hands now

Wait! The whore is still alive!

Ok so I think I'm at the end and am not sure which to do. These are my options:

1.
Cainhurst Boss
2.
Pthumerian Chalice depth 3 level 3 boss
:
Rom!
3.
Ebrietas, Daughter of Cosmos
4.
go see who the Doll told me to see.

I figure 4 is the end boss. I get one hit killed by 3 in their second form, which is frustrating.

I would just endless run at these bosses if not for the annoying vial farming. It works fine for most of the game but completely wrecks the flow if you are learning a hard boss.

The Chalices go by depth and not NGvalue, right? Will the ones I have made will stay made in the dream?

I am super sad to have reached the end, and I told my fiancée this and she said "well, that just means you can play NG+!" Haha, perfect condolence!

EDIT: 5)
go fight that dude who's hurt Eileen.
Edit edit: 6!
Find the blood rock!
7! Figure out if that
brain on a chain I dropped
did anything.

he gives you good items ...bring more people there if you can, as far as I can tell the items he keeps giving you are rare.

How far into the game is the
Unseen City after Rom, the Vacuous
? Such a gross place. The
Cthulu monsters
are whack, yo.

And lastly, approximately how many weapons are there? At this point, with my most recent gets being the Cannon and Tonitrus, I'd say I have about 10 weapons and a couple less firearms.

I must say, this seems pretty paltry for a "Souls" game with around 25 hours clocked (DS2 kind of excluded, which was overkill to stupid levels in my opinion).

The Chalice dungeons get pretty damn cool, and hard! I'm on NG++ (not that it matters for the chalices), and just about felt like I'd seen everything in the game and the honeymoon period was over, and then I went into the chalice dungeons and fell in love all over again. Definitely recommend going through them when you're "done" with the rest of the game.

Does the Chalice Dungeons difficulty increases also in NG +? or is it something completely apart?
I know I´m close to the end now, and while one part of me doesn´t want it to end, on the other hand I just can´t wait to see the ending.

Great recommendations. My list would be really similar. I highly suggest this anthology as it has just about all of those. I picked it up, having never read Lovecraft, read them all and loved it.

Also in that collection is The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, which is my personal favorite Lovecraft short story.

Killed the guy and the whore was still alive!
Close call! NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO THE CHURCH AGAIN! FUCK THEIR SAFETY!

YEah but I feel like I am missing part of the game when I inevitably screw up the NPC stoiry part...I hate it that I played really intelligently, got through a lot of shrpotcuts but never backtracked in time ot see Eileen. now she is gone for good. I also picked the wrong people to send where etc. and missed talking to them before someone killed them....I hate having to do all this stuff with a wiki and on a subsequnet playthrough...theere needs ot be a happy medium between totally screwing yourself out of the story and hand holding with no chance to screw it up. I mean if you start killing people yourself you deserve to miss the story...but I killed Ioefka wht I thought was relatively late, then I see a spoler on here saying wait until much later for an "important" item. I feel liek I am close to starting over so that I can do my virgin run through of this game with some semblance of the story and with the full NPC battles etc. GOng blind is great, but unless they change their shtick a bit in the future I will always try to get hints if not outright spoil what to do to keep the NPC questlines going.

I felt like I had hit my stride with this game, taking down mobs and bosses fairly well and then BOOM, I hit a wall. I'm level 73 and everything seems to be kicking my ass completely. I feel like I'm back at the first level of the game again.

Repeating from last page to try to get a better answer

So...... I just advanced a game state and I'm not sure what caused it.

The creeper at cathedral ward is saying "yarnham is done for" and eileen has disappeared. I decided I was going to go help her fight Henryk and now she's gone :( The old lady is giving me sedatives too. I just got to the forbidden woods, haven't killed rom obviously and obviously have killed Amelia, these things happen after Amelia? I thought people just went crazy after Amelia :(

Finished the game, got all 3 endings. Now I need to do Eileen's quest in NG+ and do all the Chalice dungeons for the platinum. This will probably take a long time :s

I killed him because I was scared he was gonna kill the whore and
I NEED her for the end of the game.

fuck it, if the whore is also important I may just start over. I missed Eileen in the cathedral, sent the whore to Ioefka, and killed her too early it appears, sniped the hunters with poison knives and only had to fight one, but did so from behind becuase that's where I first saw them (no idea who they were or what they were doing there but didnt want to fight 2-1....the list goes on............

Does having a password ruin your chances of being summoned by randoms or does no one summon in Chalice Dungeons? I'm trying to do a quick co-op Chalice and it's taking forever.

Its amazing how much better you play after beating it. So far I'm in NG+ and I'm just wrecking everything and this time I'm not using summons for bosses and Father G was easy as hell. Unlocking new doors/shortcuts and encountering the bosses never gets old!

Question about fighting R
om. Should I bother with the little spiders he summons or just focus on him?

Probably depends on
how good you are at dodging the spiders versus dodging the ice or whatever falling on you. I kept getting killed by ice while going after the spiders, but when I switched it up and dodged the spiders while swatting at him, I had no troubles.
