Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Has there been any recent comments from ps4 testers yet?
I am holding off pre-ordering it till I hear at least a few positive words from the ps4 version (using a controller).

There's a bunch of PS4 videos on youtube (they sent preview copies to the press a couple of weeks ago). The racing sim channels are using wheels but there must be some channels that used a controller.

It'll control like crap like all past SMS console racers, they seriously need to add Logitech support with no FFB, it's the only way they'll get my money.

What have they said in the members forum?

I've played the game for ever with a controller (360 one) and I think it's totally fine and I can easily change between GT6 and pCARS. They've improved the controller support a lot in the last few months (I think they've put well over 1 man month on just the controller support just this year) and it has very, very extensive customization options so you can get it fit your taste. There have also been numerous press members testing the PS4 version and it seems fine. They've also recently done a major improvement on the perceptive smoothness of the game by completely reworking the camera rendering and the press haven't been able to try it out yet (though on my 280X it was noticeably more smoother). So yeah, I think Wax's comment was totally uncalled for.

I just tested out campaign with 1 full race event in GT3 class - Practice, Qually #1, Race 1 &2 with RUF GT3, pro handling, AI at 80%, 30% race distance, G27, and I easily massacred them.

For next race at Hockenheim I will test out AI at 90%.

Until about 6 weeks ago I was worried about the controller support but as you say recently it has really come together. I am now 100% happy with it on out of the box settings and even find that it works great over steam in home streaming!

I can't get over crazy good this game looks, it's like the Crysis of racers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SanU3LJgYz0

No wonder it takes a monster rig to max it out at 60fps (even at a mainstream res of 1080p).

Should be good for hardware adoption.

This makes me realise an issue I'm having with the game. When the car turns the corner at 1:36, you can see big shadows of the cars from the player's headlights. I don't see these, only my own shadow whenever a car is behind me. Is there a setting I'm missing?

This video has me quite excited about the AI in pCARS - lots of individual duels, blocking, running wide, overshooting corners and spins. There's nothing worse in racing games than passive and predictable AI and this looks like anything but. As ever, watch in 60fps if you can.

My hype is rising massively for this game.

The video you linked is a multiplayer race.

You really need at least a 970 for 1080p 60fps max settings. Even that wont keep tge framerate consistent. A 980 works best, but even that gets pushed over the limit every now and again.

I'm playing SP now, and I find AI quite satisfactory. They will smack me a little only when I do crazy moves, forcing myself into positions where even I would make same mistakes if someone attacked me like that.

During regular "fair" driving, AI cars are aware of their surroundings. I'm very happy.

They're still too cautious on the breaks into corners, which leaves them easy meat for a player in a lot of situations, and makes battles between AI cars, even when there is a decent speed difference in a mixed field race, more awkward than they should be.

It's by no means terrible, but hopefully there's still some tweaks and fixes before release.

Still no update on the new release date ?

Edit: Amazon just sent me an email saying the game will be released on the 7th of may... (i'm in France)

Hi and thanks for sharing that video. Pcars lighting is really good!

Since you have proven yourself able, can you please do a comparison of the real life megan R vs the new civic type R? That would great to see and compare.

Amazing video as always!

Somehow I wasn't subscribed already, just fixed that.

Crazy setup you're using too lol.

Nice! Have to say that Capri is one of my top cars to play in PCars, awesome fun in manual (although I have a G27 attached to a desk, nothing quite as flash as your setup!)

Excellent video, I subbed!!

Hi

Glad you like it;)

Video of my top 5 Car sounds

greeting

Not their fault. It was rendered at 30fps. Probably the guy that made it couldn't max the game with all the AA and stuff and still run it at 60fps (this is a comunity trailer, BTW).

Any mid-May release date info yet on the official forum? Haven't been there in a bit.
Heard a rumor it might be more like June or July, hoping it's just a rumor.

Can they just go ahead and cancel the Wii U version already. If not going to even acknowledge it is even a thing anymore why bother.

Is SMS going to give back all of the money to those that crowdfunded the project in the hopes of eventually getting the Wii U release? No? There is your answer.

A significant portion of the money to help make this game came out of crowdfunding. I'd say it's there is enough invested this far into development that canceling it wouldn't benefit anyone. IF anything it will anger quite a bit of people.

Don't worry though, you'll still be getting your PC, PS4, or XB1 version. The Wii U version isn't getting in the way of those from coming out (Especially when you factor that the Wii U release started development long before either the PS4 or XB1 versions were decided upon)

I'm likely to get the PC release, but still there isn't any reason to cancel a version of the game because you personally weren't interested in it. That just sounds petty.

.....

That answer would be yes, every single backer can get their money back at anytime, if that's what they want.

People thinking a large amount is from the WiiU funding are seriously misinformed. It is mostly PC players backing the project and if they would have asked their backers, like they did with PS3/360, if they should stop WiiU support, guess what the answer would have been.

The Wii U version existing isn't going to take away from the PC version.

While, the PS3 and 360 versions may have been canceled, Consider it more of a priority shift to the PS4 and XB1 versions as their replacements. Seeing as a significant portion of console owners who owned either a PS3 or 360, have migrated to the PS4 and XB1 to begin with.

The PC version was always the main development platform to begin with.

I seriously don't see the point of denying the game to a specific audience, despite how small it may be. It just means that many more people that have the opportunity to enjoy the game.

It means wasting time and money on a version that will not sell at all.

Wasting whos money? SMS or the Crowdfunders?

I'd probably find this point more valid if SMS had entirely foot the development and publishing bill themselves, Or hadn't put the Wii U version on a hiatus to focus their resources on getting the PC, PS4, and XB1 version finished first but this is not the case

But like Markao said, the vast majority of the backers were for the PC and next gen version. Also everybody is free to get a refund.

What's the insider perspective on how well the console versions are developing? If mid-May is still on the cards then the game must be getting close to going gold. Are SMS confident of releasing with a rock-solid 60fps with zero drops, a la Forza? I cannot stress how important that is to me.

There's not really any info about the console versions on the wmd forums since wmd members can't test them. We can see daily build notes (I don't really read them so I dunno) but that's it.

That Renault trailer certainly puts this game on my radar, what with GT7 being some way away realistically.

Are all the liveries likely to be PC only mods though or would those kind of races (touring car etc) come to consoles too?

There are lots of liveries for each class in the game, but no editor of any kind unfortunately.

PC is the only platform that allows an additional slot for a 'custom' livery. You make it outside the game using whatever (eg. Photoshop) then insert it in to the game directory. Same goes for helmets and race suits I believe. These are auto-selected on consoles depending on the team livery.

Thanks for the heads up, shame they can't offer a USB upload slot for consoles. Maybe something they might consider who knows.

Looking great though so seems I have another racer to play on the PS4.
