Alright I need gaffer theories.

I'm sitting at LVL 55 my brother is LVL 50
He beat the Witch of Hemwick
I did not.

I am going to becon him into my game even though I am a higher level.

We restart our consoles.
Set Search to Worldwide
Set password
We both stand at the lamp at Hemwick in pretty much the exact same spot.
He rings the resonance bell. Waits till it tells him its searching for the beckoning bell
Then I ring the beckoning bell.

5-6 min. Nothing

To test it I keep the beckoning bell going and turn off the password.
In about 5 min I summon a random fine.

WTF

Hmm. Can you swap beckoning/resonance. Helped me once.

Been stuck fighting the (4th boss?)
Vicar Amelia
for my past few sessions and I think this game is finally wearing me down to a fine powder.
I just can't seem to reliably dodge those sweeping arm attacks. I'll do fine, get my hits in, dodge, play it patiently, but eventually I'll find that we're positioned in such a way that I run out of room behind me and the camera closes in and its all over, or else I'll look like I timed my evasion right only to get slammed anyway. There is no worse feeling in this game then to see yourself dodge an attack and yet still get hit, or even knocked on your ass before watching the coup de grace.

And then a long minute of darkness and I'm back at the bottom of those stairs. Take down the first pole-arm guy, the ground-crow, then the first enemy patrolling the stairs, then the second, then through the campfire gate where two more pole-guys patrol, then the two guardians of the first stairs - the one with the scythe and the one with the rifle, and then one and then the second tree-branch wielding fucks, fought in close quarters, and finally I enter the mists for the boss fight.
A few minutes later I'm back at the bottom of the stairs looking to do it all over again. After a dozen attempts or so, broken up with exploration to the extent I've been able to get anywhere else (all closed doors as far as I can tell), or formerly easier areas now populated by
hunters of hunters
and I'm about ready to shelve this game for a good long while. I feel at a disadvantage with the camera and the enclosed spaces (considering the wide sweep of the attacks you face).

Tried to do it co-op with a buddy and we couldn't seem to connect to our games even though all of our settings checked out. I've also checked articles with tips, but my evasions don't feel reliable - not with that camera. Then I realize that instead of stewing as I wait to respawn again, I could just be spending my time playing something not built around dodging room-sized healthbar-devouring attacks.

So tell me, are those Hunters spawning in the
Nightmare
area in the same position as I am or are those people just looking to pick a fight.

stay to the side. close to her legs, if you hit the dodge button at the right time you should be able to pass the majority of her strikes. It's a long fight but I wouldn't say it's a hard one once you get the hang of the dodging. Remember, her sides, not her back.

Invaders are so damn polite! I walked into an area with a bell ringing woman, and the invader came in while I was fighting an enemy, so he or she just stood there and waited until I killed it, we bowed to each other and then started the duel.
Then, in the middle of the fight, another enemy wandered over to fight me, so the invader pulled back and waited for me to deal with it before continuing.

Finally beat (optional boss)
Martyr Logarius
! That was a tough one. At
Nightmare of Mensis
now. Estimate of how long I have left in the game?

Question about the Chalice dungeons. I finished one of them that said it was depth 2 but it only had 3 layers. Am I misunderstanding what depth means?

You can get
close enough to be within those sweeping attacks so they miss
? Or are you talking about some kind of invincibility frames in the dodge animation that lets you sorta phase through em? I try to keep my distance but its a roll of the dice whether I can get from attacking range (of my whip) out far enough to avoid the wide arc of the attack in time. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. Its felt like the luck of the draw so far.

I attack on sight. Left that honor stuff behind in Dark Souls.

Depth only means difficulty, I don't think there's a way to tell how many layers but AFAIK it's either 3 or 5.

Just need two trophies for platinum. This game is being a jerk and giving me gems with a rating of 14. It just doesn't want to give that sweet gem with a rating of 15+.

i'm getting sick of unseen village, really... i can't go along with the insane respawn and i can't rush things and ways i dont know of -_- and when i try to survive and keep going on i just burn all my vials

So just beat
Amygdala
.. Where do I go now?

I've beaten

CB
Father G
BSB
Vicar
Wtiches of Hemwick
Shadows of Yharnam
Rom
One Reborn
Paarl
Amygdala
Martyr Logarius

Could anybody tell me how close I am to the end? I've just got to the
castle with a giant spider inside that killed me. There's also this woman ringing a bell which I just stopped or something.
My enthusiasm is seriously slipping. I'm just running past everything at this point.

Well, I completed the game and tried
Cleric Beast
on NG+ for funsies. He was rather easy to be honest, but man has the health pools gone up massively. Even with my fire paper, the 1h Ludwig's +10 wasn't doing that much per hit.

About the end of the game.
Is Iosefka's umbilical cord required for the true ending? I killed her before fighting Rom :/

Yes, but you don't get it from fighting her. you'll find it in the area where you fought her and you have to kill someone to get it.

edit: Actually, that might not work for you. I did it in a different order and did not realize who that "someone" was. Sorry about that.

If you've done all the other optional bosses, not long at all.

Four tips that might help:

1. Don't fight enemies on the way towards her, just run and pass them by. It is exhausting to do it every time.
2. Stay close and behind her as much as possible. Be patient, do critical but play safe.
3. Use fire (molotov cocktails and fire paper) and numbing mist, as she later performs a powerful healing spell. Numbing mist will prevent her to do so.
4. Finally, ask for help. There's nothing wrong about ringing your Beckoning Bell and finishing her on co op.

that boss was optional though,

go back to the
lecture building, there is another door that will transport you to the other nightmare area

Hm, strange.

Iosefka question.

I sent the guy in the Forbidden Woods (who was clearly suspicious) to Iosefka's clinic, then I did some other stuff and beat Rom. After that, Iosefka stopped responding and there's no hint of survivors. The entire place is just empty.

did you notice the dead body where you first spoke to the guy in the forbidden woods?

My intent to go into this game blind started out so pure, but as the mysteries I knew I'd never figure out on my own piled up (
how to get the key to the Upper Cathedral Ward, what random rock to walk next to to make it to Cainhurst, what the umbilicals are for and when to use them, triggers for Eileen's quest, how to reach the Old Workshop, etc.
) I've basically spoiled the whole endgame for myself in one way or another.

It all started with someone on GAF spoiling that
Iosfka had to be killed at a particular time to get her umbilical, which I'd need to get the "true" ending
...the rest just fell into place naturally.

Next time a Souls game comes out I need to decide to either consult wikis from day one or quit GAF altogether to preserve secrets.
