Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

I wonder if there is a way of stopping the money bonus from being applied if you preordered/purchased the game.

Wouldn't want to have that much money on hand at the start to be honest. That's one of the things I like earning in games like this.

I added GTAV into my cart on the Rockstar Warehouse for shits and giggles...it adds 2 items (The game and a bonus code), so if you dont redeem the bonus code, assume you just get vanilla gtav

Not too sure about the Steam version though

It's PC. With singleplayer, you'll be able to modify money fairly trivially most likely. Set it to 0 at the start, and add money later if you want it back

So if the GTA V Launcher from the Social Club is to be believed, the game should unlock on 4/13 at 4PM PST. Few hour headstart, not bad.

Are there any reviewers who will get the game early to comment on performance?
I've heard people say earlier in the thread that at the least, TotalBiscuit doesn't have any kind of review code.
It wouldn't surprise me if Rockstar thought that, because there are reviews of the console versions available, that the PC version doesn't need review copies sent out. Like they think there's nothing else to critique. At the least, I'd find that funny.

This bodes well.

That's pretty reasonable. The game is the same and that's what people review.

Does anyone know what happens when you turn off your computer before it finishes downloading through Social Club? Will it pick up from where it left off when I turn my computer back on?

Well I accidentally unplugged my router so I had to exit my launcher download because it wouldn't reconnect. After signing back and checking the cache it picked up where I left off.

Thinking of clearing some space and moving the game to my SSD though, not sure if it's worth it. what are the load screens & times like in GTAV?

the initial load when u start it up is like 2 or 3 mins i believe. but then everything is quick, unless moving to online from single player and vice versa, that takes about a 40 secs id say. the ssd may help with loading in assets better quicker in game, because so much is streamed though we'll see.

I picked up a 500gb SSD and 2x 1TB HDDs last week in preparation for playing and recording this game, and I'm super glad I did. My GTA V is preloaded onto the SSD and ready to go :p

Well, I just started up my download.

Will be ready in 17 hours with my speed................................

2 or 3 mins even on current gen or last gen?

Thinking of picking this up - haven't played a GTA game since III, so I'm not to familiar with the following question.

As for the game on PC, do you prefer playing it on keyboard or controller? Any particular benefits of either scheme?

Controller is a lot better for driving because you can vary the amount of gas thanks to analog triggers. Unfortunately gamepads suck for aiming so in GTA IV what I did was every time I stepped into a car, I grabbed my PS3 controller and everytime I was on foot I used keyboard and mouse.

I seriously wish somebody comes up with a better control scheme than analog sticks for controlling the viewport. Any shooter feels miserable to me on a gamepad. Have high hopes for Steam controller now.

Your download speed is the same as mine and we both live in Australia. Are we the same person?

Is it really not possible to get better speeds in Australia?

Ah you aint alone, I turn my PC off before bed too. Always seems like a bit of a waste to have the PC running whilst I am asleep especially these days when it takes all of like 10-20 secs to boot a PC up from a cold start. When I get up in the morning I switch my PC on, go for a piss and lo behold my PC is up, ready and running.

I get home, power on, lean down to untie my shoe.. and voila it's up and running :D This, first time after getting SSD broke my jaw hard.

It depends on your location.

Down my street they're finally upgrading us to the National Broadband Network, so that's a step in the right direction.

Took me about 6 hours at 6MB/s to download GTA today, now just gotta wait.

If I'm adding a non-Steam version of this to Steam, which do I use - the PlayGTAV.exe or GTAVLauncher.exe? Or does it not really matter?

It is, but the vast majority of the country is serviced by Telstra Wholesale ADSL exchanges. Fortunately, though, I'll be on fibre in about six months (assuming no delays).

In Australia too, I get 800kbps from steam on a good day. I've just switched on my PC for the first time in a week to purchase and start the download and now I have no internet "unidentified network error" wtf, off to google I guess...

Lucky you. I don't know if I will ever see NBN where I live (Northern Melbourne)

Which folder is the game pre-loading to via Steam? I downloaded it onto my HDD but I want it in my near empty SSD.

The files are in a folder called "depotcache" which should be located in the steamapps folder. You will need at least 120gbs of space free on your SSD if you move the encrypted files across because steam needs space to decrypt all 60gbs.

I would say personally it would be better to decrypt the files on your legacy hard disc then move the decrypted files across once it is done.

I am still unsure if I want to go physical or not. I know buying the Steam version made using ENB in the last GTA a little bit more of a pain. I got it to work for the most part but having the physical version and not having it auto update was ideal.

I have 50mb Fios, and my preload is ridiculously slow. Started it at around 4pm yesterday and it was just about halfway done this morning at 6am. I'm downloading through the rockstar social club since I bought off GMG.

I've never seen a download this slow. I guess the Northeast US servers are getting hammered.
