Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

I got it from Nuuvem, took about 40 minutes to install (thanks Korean internet!). I don't know if it'll run on my laptop, but worse comes to worse I'll go to a PC bang and install/play it there.

They said they were going to run it in 3d (with 3D vision) which can be a pretty decent performance hit. Normal conditions maybe, 3d with everything maxed out is probably asking too much.

3D is the same as running it at 60 FPS. I think a 780 can manage or at least come very very close. If recommended is a 660.

Your download speed is the same as mine and we both live in Australia. Are we the same person?
The person with the most number of steam games lives in Australia? I feel honored!

However u should move to Malaysia like I did... Dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin rm75 (au$25), pillars of eternity rm85 ($28), GTA V rm149 (au$50)

Speaking of download speed I'm on 4mbps so yeah...

Thought I would stick this here. A reddit user has posted screenshots of what he claims are messages from Rockstar support saying the steam version will unlock on the 14th April at 8am GMT

http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftA...m_release_time_confirmed_by_rockstar_support/

The first image shows a response from Rockstar support that says GTA 5 will unlock on the 14th April at 12:00am PST time which they said was 5:00am GMT. The second image shows a reponse from Rockstar support correcting the 5:00am GMT to 8:00am GMT. The third image shows a response from Rockstar support saying the release time is the same for the steam version.

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen. Never understood the whole secrecy/reluctance to tell customers the exact time they can access their purchase meself.

But that doesn't really add up with the countdown people have in the downloader. From the responses it looks like it's the same time for both versions. So why would their own countdown be wrong?

So basically if you want to play GTA Online, this comes out four or five days after the 14th, if Rockstar's past performance is anything to go by.

Just please let me play offline from hour one without some super shitty DRM telling me I can't because servers are busy or down, it's not too much to ask. Couldn't care less about online gta the first bunch of days.

With all this positive talk about performance, I'm starting to wonder if maybe I could pull off maxed settings 1440P/60FPS w/ my i7 4790k and GTX 980. Hmm....

I was hoping the same thing. Let's hope for the best.

760.....3840*2160.......

Yeah, right, maybe with the lowest settings possible.

The hit with 4K comes mostly at the expense of per pixel effects or anything memory intensive. I can see these cards manage it by turning shader quality way down without necessarily compromising too much more.

So anywhere to get a cheap STEAM key? Not interested in downloading through Rockstar Social Club, I like to see as many of my games as possible all in one place (and yes I know I need to sign in via RSC either way).

from the looks of things the only way to get it on steam is to buy through steam, everywhere else is offering RSC keys. if thats the case all round, you're gonna have to decide how much having it on steam is worth to you.

I'm not going to trust a web support response. When I see the countdown timer on Steam I will know what is true.

At a max of 450 kb/s, this will most likely be a physical purchase.

The number of ppl that download at 1mb/s or sub that is insane. In Ontario 3mb/s is the 'cheap/shitty' internet. 10mb/s is average.

Whats happening in the states?
For $44 I have access to the speeds I mentioned above. Thanks AT&T!

The thing surprising me is people complaining about data caps. I'm in Australia and although my speeds aren't fast (around 1MB/s) I've been on an unlimited plan since 2009. Are people really telling me that an internet backwater like Australia can provide unlimited plans while places in the US can't? That just sounds insane.

I'm pretty sure Rockstar's servers are getting hammered to death right now. I have a 120 Mb fiber connection and my download speed for this pre-load is constantly jumping from 50 Kbps to 5 MBps.

Yeah maybe it isn't worth the 30 extra dollars, at least for now. Can always get for $5 on Steam later for the sake of posterity.

Does that Nuuvem deal unlock in the US properly?

we wont know until release day for sure, but so far keys have redeemed fine, the game preloaded successfully on US/EU accounts and is ready for launch, it would be really surprising if it didnt work come launch day

Hmm, could it be that the game through the Rockstar Club will be available earlier than through Steam? The countdown there does not match those emails.

Haha, I'm not quite there yet.

I have my ways. ;)

There is no countdown on Steam just yet as no unlock dates have been set. Since Steam supports region-specific unlock times I'm hoping it'll release here at 12am AEST (and that I have the evening off work, haha).

I had to download this twice (the RSC version) because I didn't put it in the right folder the first time...tried to move the files and it was gonna make me redownload everything when I launched the program to make sure it still worked

Thank god I don't have download limits

You could probably edit Windows registry to change the paths where it thinks the game should be and avoid downloading it.

Already downloaded it again so everything is ok now...the second download went faster than the first at least

Wait.. If you get this from Nuuvem, how do you re download it? Do you need to save the exe?

when you put in the key on the RSC site to activate it you get a "GTAV_Setup_Tool" file...that's the installer

Your Nuuvem library will have the key, and the key works with Rockstar Social Club / Warehouse. So I guess a better question is how does that work - I don't think anyone has tried it yet, but I assume there is something on the Rockstar site that will let you do it

Nuuvem gives you a Rockstar Social Club Key that you enter at http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/activate. After doing that it let's you download the installer (GTAV_Setup_Tool). If you go back to that activation site it let's you re-download that installer if you ever lose it or need it again.

Is there a definitive answer over whether the '120GB' thing is Steam-specific or not? I asked in the 60fps trailer thread but the answers weren't definitive and this thread is obviously now more relevant.

I'll just have to move another game to an external drive temporarily if the RGSC version needs unpacking too, but it's a step I'd rather avoid.

goddammit, I got the GMG version thinking it was Steam and it isn't :(

Oh well, I just hope updating it through whatever Rockstar isn't annoying

Yeah I wanna know this too, or if you download it once the game is unlocked rather than getting the preload do you still need the double space?

I'll sacrifice getting the game a day later if it means i don't have to spend a day reorganizing my SSDs :D

Edit: also i know next to nothing about stuff, but needing DOUBLE space for decryption seems like, quite a poor process of decryption. why can't it decrypt in packages and then delete any temporary files as it goes, maybe with a 10gb buffer rather than making a single huge unencrypted version of the full game and then deleting the encrypted version.. if someone can answer that bonus question i'd appreciate it

It's how Steam unpacks preloads. The game downloads the data, unpacks it, then deletes the initial download. So you will need 120GB total. I recommend pre-loading to a storage drive, then moving the files over once it has been unpacked.

If you download the game after release, then it will be 60GB only.

Yeah that's fair enough. I'm gonna download it and just wait to see what happens. If it fails to launch with errors pertaining to low disk space then I'll move a game.

Damn, I miss Steam's amazing speeds. I bought the game cheap on Nuuvem, but the Social Club downloader is slow as fuck. It's hovering around ~250 KBps right now. Almost 40 hours remaining.

I hope Rockstar beefs up their servers between today and next Tuesday, because otherwise this pre-load window will be for nought.
