For anyone who wanted clarification on what moves do or don't exist:

General
Left Stick to move.
Right stick to move camera.
D-pad Up sacrifices HP for bullets.
D-pad Down switches equipped consumable item.
D-pad Left switches equipped left-hand weapon.
D-pad Right switches equipped right-hand weapon.
X accepts menus and interacts.
Hold X + move controller in prescribed direction performs a gesture. The controller motions can be seen on the gesture screen.
Square uses the currently equipped consumable item.
Hold O and move left stick to sprint. Press O again while sprinting to leap.
On a ladder, Hold O + Left Stick Up to climb fast.
On a ladder, Hold O + Left Stick Down to slide down.
On a ladder, R1 to punch up
On a ladder, R2 to kick down.
Options opens the menu.
Right side of Touchpad opens the Personal Effects screen.
Left side of Touchpad opens the Gestures screen.

Combat
Triangle uses a Blood Vial to heal.
R3 (click right stick) locks on to enemies. Switch between targets by moving the right stick while locked on.
R1 is a light right-hand attack. R1, close to enemy when staggered is a Visceral Attack.
R2 is a heavy right-hand attack. Hold R2 for a charged heavy right-hand attack. From behind, charged attacks stagger enemies for a Visceral Attack.
Forward + R2 is a heavy right-hand jump attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
L2 is a shot/attack from your left-hand weapon. Used to interrupt an attack before impact, this staggers enemies for a Visceral Attack. When holding certain right-hand weapons with two hands, L2 is a unique melee attack instead.
L1 transforms your weapon. This can be used while moving. L1 after any other attack is a transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
O is a backstep.
O + R1 is a backstep right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + R2 is a backstep right-hand heavy attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + L1 is a backstep + transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
O + Left Stick (any direction) is a roll. If locked onto and close to an enemy, you will sidestep instead of rolling.
O + Left Stick (any direction) + R1 is a rolling right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + Left Stick (any direction) + L1 is a roll + transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
Hold O + Left Stick (sprint) + R1 is a running right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
Hold O + Left Stick (sprint) + R2 is a running right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)

Notes for Souls Series Veterans
There are always habits to unlearn and break when going from one of these games to another. Obviously a lot has changed combat-wise in this one, but the things I really needed to sit down and tell myself were: there is no Forward + R1/"kick" attack, charged R2s are a huge deal, and there are definitely separate running and backstep attacks for R1 and R2, in each weapon form. Finally, unlike backstab/riposte, visceral attacks can be performed on seemingly any enemy, including bosses, though some enemies may take multiple shots to stagger.

If anyone sees any issues with this or anything I didn't include, please let me know, I'd like it to be as accurate as possible.

Did not get the Living String. I'll look for it tonight, thanks!

Oh one more thing
use the "make contact" gesture in front of a certain enemy, the one you kill to get the Living String. That'll give you a caryll rune which will give you +30% more blood echoes. Will level you up very easily in NG+

I suck at this game, for sure, but after 15 times trying to get past the two hounds in Central Yharnam, I finally beat them and when I walk into the next area the game states that I have lost the connection to the Bloodborne servers and it sends me back to the title screen. When I get back to the two hounds, they are back and I can't get past them again. That is some epic level trolling right there... sigh.
Those pups are supremely not worth your time this early on. Run right on past, run like the wind. If you make it to (first boss approach spoilers I guess)
the Cleric Beast's fog door and enter, nothing that was chasing you will follow.

hey you can add that you can punch up and kick down on ladders, i forget which attack buttons do it though...

I don't see anything about L2+R2 breaking grabs - is this a running gag or am I doing it wrong?
Well, this is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for that I had no idea about, just like people last night were saying they didn't know about a couple of the things I mentioned. Is this real? Do you hold them both down or what?

There's another. I didn't know enemies could climb ladders at all, haha. Anyone know the button(s) that do this?

Also what's the "best" and most practical gun to use? Cannon only gives you 2 shots which is undesirable. The main pistol is too weak. Maybe Repeating Pistol, or Ludwig's Rifle?

Pretty damn high, yo.

Last trophy I needed was the
true ending one.

Perfect way to end it.

Haha on that note i might make the one I need
the waking from a dream ending
because that is an equally perfect way to cap it off.

But who would I be kidding, I am going to keep playing way beyond the platinum.

Cannon gives you four (at least) thanks to blood bullets. You can also increase your bullet capacity with runes, so every five more bullets is another shot.

[...]and there are definitely separate running and backstep attacks for R1 and R2, in each weapon form.

Fixed that for you. There are only special running and backstab R2's. Rolling R2 just gives you your regular R2 (which is good, because it allows roll -> charged R2).

Is there an accepted best set of armor? All seem to be shitty in a lot of areas so it makes choosing one seem pretty meaningless. Are you supposed to be changing armor depending on what area you're in?

Thanks, you're right, I got caught up writing everything twice but I remember testing this. Fixing!

LOL you can't exit the password door to the Cathedral area if you do the Forbidden Woods skip. The only way to get there without going the normal way is to beat
Rom
.

Honestly I don't know. I know people jam on R1/L1/R2/L2 and say it helps. Some people said it's just the second triggers.. I just am very paranoid and don't get grabbed.

I'm just running through the U
nseen Village again to see if I missed anything as I was very quick to the next lamp because of the constant respawning and lasers! I did manage to miss an item that's locked behind a gate that apparently opens from the other side. The room with the gate is located to the right of the room you leave before you face the witches and Amgydala lasers.

Anyone know how to get it?

Edit:
Nevermind, I found a drop near all the witches and the lasers that led me to a section above the cage that I could drop down to. Now I have a key to an area that I didn't know even existed!

What's the point of no return for the game?

When the way is open to go to
the large tree with a field of flowers in the Dream
. Don't go there if you want to do other things in your run first. Well, you can always suicide there...but just sayin'.

If you aren't getting hit then you can wear whatever looks good, but yes every situation calls for a particular set.

Wait what is this?? Explain better so I can do it.

trying to figure out how I do the ritual for the Ailing Loren chalice dungeon. I went through all of Pthumeru, central Pthumeru, and lower Pthumeru. Did I just miss the chalice somewhere? I believe this is the next place I have to go to for a certain trophy

You need to beat a certain boss to get the Ailing Loran Chalice.

Amygdala

I just beat
The One Reborn
first try... It was really easy. I basically just stayed underneath it and spammed R1 with +9 Ludwig. I didn't even realize you could apparently
go upstairs and take out the guys shooting fire at you
until after I beat the boss and realized there was a way up there, lol.

I feel like I'm over leveled because I did the first 3 tiers of Chalice dungeons. I'm already lvl 88. :X

You are a bit over leveled. My characters that have cleared the game are around lvl 60-65.

ha, I actually just asked this question on a few pages back. xD

On the part of the platform where there's a lot of witches and the Amgydala lasers firing at you, there's a hole in the railing on the right side where you can drop down and get to it.

Aww, I figured I was honestly. I don't typically over level in 'Souls' games, but I have on this one (I know it's not technically a Souls game, but whatever). I'm not even sure why... I feel like there's not enough stuff to buy with blood echos that I care about besides leveling.

Does anyone know if after befriending
Djura
, the beasts of
Old Yharnam
are still hostile? I attacked one on reaction and he got pissed lol.

hmmm, I did everything there is to do in those Pthumeru ones

Edit: nevermind, I figured it out.....I had to scroll to the right in the chalice menu haha

Ah. Well the chalice itself comes from an optional boss in the main world, not in a Chalice.

But I think for the trophy you need to do more Pthumerian, not Loran. Did you get a Defiled Chalice from Lower Pthu?

Haha, thanks I just found it myself.
Where do I search for the upper cathedral? I thought I had gone through all of it. Don't remember seeing a door locked

Wait what is this?? Explain better so I can do it.

When you drop Mother Brain down into the dark abyss in Nightmare Mensis, you go up to it and kill it for the Living String. If you perform the "Make Contact" gesture in front for about 30 seconds it drops the rune.... then kill it.
