Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

That was the biggest help for me.
Once I discovered you can just lock onto the sword with your pistol as soon as he plants it and destroy it makes that entire move defunct.

Also once you
get your parry timing down he goes from being one of the hardest to one of the easiest bosses.

I was ecstatic when I finally beat him.
I got decent at
parrying him and used that to beat him but it never felt as consistent as I would have liked. I hate when you feel like the timing is right but you shoot right over his head!

Beating him without destroying those swords is such a pain because they stun-lock you out of healing all the time. You basically have to position yourself around one of the towers while also worrying about Logarius. Pretty brutal but I assumed it was just Souls being Souls, haha.

This reminds me of that time in Dark Souls II when I (mid-game boss spoilers)
fought Mytha for literally 3 or 4 hours without knowing you could drain the poison...

I've never actually had rapid poison proc on me, what exactly does it do?
Bosses don't get more difficult.
I've heard a bunch of different rumours about it affecting their AI and they use different moves and stuff based on insight, but I have no idea if any of it is confirmed

Only the fact that some mobs get buffed and new ones appear is confirmed. Bosses stay pretty much the same, only easier if a memory leak glitch happens to you.

It's basically bleed.

Or Frenzy, if you didn't play Dark Souls, but instead of a slower but persistent build up even after you kill the enemy, it's less persistent but builds a lot faster.

You know what's funny.....

On my very first playthrough of Bloodborne, the first time I confronted Cleric Beast it took me almost 6 hours to beat him; and this was with me leveling up to 20 to get through the fight.

This morning, I started a fresh character, level 10 with no upgrades. Ran straight to Cleric Beast and I dropped him in about 3 minutes.....

Guys, d....did I git gud?

You now understand the greatness of this game (and Souls games). You are leveling yourself up while playing... the XP on your character is almost irrelevant.

Ok that's interesting. Is 50% hp then like bleed was?

That I'm not sure of. I'll try to pay more attention next time.

Just need to get this off my chest:
M
ARTYR

OGARIUS

This motherfucker absolutely destroys me :(

Watchdog
of the old lords
is some phenomenal character design.

Bloodborne like other heavy mechanic based games is all about you getting better as a player. That is its genius

I have a fairly general question. What are the pros and cons of pistol and blunderbuss in terms of parry potential? Is the range and/or timing window different?

Currently I'm in the cathedral area. Haven't been able to put in much time since I work so much.
I'm at a crossroads.
Should I go toward the old yarnam or the cathedral circle? I bought the key to get in but the enemies seem a lot tougher there. Specifically the boSs, V A

I've made it as far as the BTB and gave up even though I can get him to within 10% health. Problem is doing runs on him doesn't replenish my blood vials enough since all the enemies along the way only give shards.

Thinking about going to the woods area to grab some of those TBS and upgrade more before going back

Blunderbuss is slightly slower and has less range than the pistol. The benefit of the blunderbuss is that it can stun multiple enemies and more importantly, if an enemy shifts during their wind up you'll get the parry whereas the pistol will probably shoot over their heads.

Pistol is better 99% of the time though.

Pistol is more damage, better range and quicker draw.

Blunderbuss is slower but has a wider spread and I would guess (?) more damage if you are right up in someone's grill

I'm 9 bosses in and he's the only one who gave me any difficulty. Luckily the shortcut to him is only two minutes away.

Try to stay close to him during his first phase and get in some hits when he plants his staff. Normally 2 hits then move. For the second phase he builds up his aoe move. That's your chance for a free visceral attack. After that just bait him into swinging his sythe and parry/visceral attack for the win. Also be sure to shoot the sword he plants with your pistol as you can lock onto it

Took me 9 attempts even at level 80.

Haha. That's exactly how I was fighting
Logarius. At first I thought you were just meant to deal with the AoE, so I tried to position myself so the spires blocked them. It worked, but it was still rather tedious. I did actually realise eventually you could hit it and I was like *SIGH*. I never figured out you could backstab him during the charge up to make him easier though. That would have made parrying way easier, no matrix bullet blocking bullshit.

Easy Mode:
Get close. 90% of the time he will use that slow wind-up attack. Just parry and viseral attack. He is actually the easiest boss to parry in the game, because a) he does the same attack everytime b) if your timing is early, you still interrupt him c) if your timing is too late, you get hit once and still interrupt him. So there's really no risk in attempting the parry.

Oh boy....nervous now.

What is the best gun to level up?

If you want damage, then the Cannon or Evelyn, I guess, if you only use it to parry, just level it up enough to unlock a gem slot. At least it's what I did.

I use a healing gem on my left hand weapon. It's absolutely useless, but I like the icon below my stamina bar :C

That's not true, unless you get the easy mode version of him.
In the proper fight, first phase he rarely ever does melee attacks in the first phase. He generally just uses the explosion skull to make you back off.

Cool, thanks guys. Parry is the only thing I care about with guns so I might start using the pistol more.

Killed M
icolash, fight was boring.
I feel like i missed a boss and now i'm out of vials. Time to farm!

It's kinda intense on NG+,
spirit bomb will one shot you. NG+ Nicolas Cage was the only PVE fight in the game where Beast Roar was actually very useful.

Cleared the 1st boss in Defiled Chalice. I won't take on the next boss for a while. But will move onto depth 5 loran chalice for now to get better stuff.

Does anyone know which Root dungeon drops the +15 HP Rune?
Also where does +10% Fire Res Rune drop?

I haven't got this game yet and I haven't been following the OT's or been watching any streams or anything. So did the game live up to peoples expectations or what?

Is there any advantage to the blood vial system over the estus flask system of Dark Souls I/II? I can't figure out why they went back to using a finite resource. I guess they just needed something else for enemies to drop?

Guys, I think I beat the game last night. I finally beat host of the nightmare guy by myself because all my help was a waste. Just pinned him in the corner all day : )

I had to get help for the
Wetnurse, because that boss is SHIT. Seriously, how the hell would you beat that alone? The first form is fine but once it starts creating a second wetnurse that can hurt you, you would never get a chance to hit it dodging all day

I beat the guy near the burning house and then I restarted....I thought I had other bosses to beat buy maybe I'm thinking of optional ones.

I'm glad I stuck it out and beat the game. I will probably do at least a NG+ and start trying to find all the stuff I missed. It makes me want to go finish Dark Souls 2.

Great addition to the series, and I'm glad I finally got over my shield fetish and just started shooting people.

It topped my expectations to be honest, i thought i'd drop it a few hours in but i can't stop playing now.

It scales to your health?

That's the only one I can think of.

It really gets awful when you're doing the later chalice dungeons. Fortunately I had a stockpile of the blood echo items because I never used them, so I've been chomping those to buy vials. I've ran out of them now though. So if the depth 5 level 2 pthu boss is as hard as people say, I'm going to be farming vials again today. Sigh.

Personally, it over delivered in a few areas for me but I lowered my expectations purposely in case it turned out to be a disappointment.

That's the point though,
when she does the clone thing, just run and dodge. It eventually wears off and you can go back to hitting her normally.

Micolash is a dumb fight. Tried it 3 times last night, running all over then spirit bombs, I was like I'm good for now.

Wondering this myself.

Starting Lower Pthumeru tonight and then probably Loran but I want to be fully prepared for Defiled.

To me, I'm not 100% sure.
Yeah, the game is golden until you reach a certain place (
Unseen Village
). Afer that I really desliked most of the areas. Also theres not so much builds and gear or weapon varieties, what doesnt really incentive a new playthrough imo.

Its a very good game overall. Almost as good as Dark Souls. But not perfect, and not the best compared to the Souls series.
