I'm still stuck on
ebreitas
I get her to about 10 or 20 % health and then the magic attack one shots me, I'm level 68, been here for hours, no one to summon either.

Regarding vials...

On my first playthrough I found myself having to farm several times in the early game - I did the circuit through Central Grindham about half a dozen times, until I got far enough to start farming blood instead of vials.

Now on my second playthrough, no later than Old Yarnham do I try to pick up a vial and encounter something I've never seen before...I can't pick it up. I have 99 vials just through average play.

With skill and familiarity the grind disappears. The true BB begins when you start doing 90% of your healing via rally and tactical retreats to Hunter's Dream.

Just started the Defiled Chalice and arrived at the first boss. I have the suspicion I'll spend quite a lot of time getting through the dungeon...

Atleast Strength and Skill stats get decent bonuses up till you hit 25 in both. Goes up decently after that though. Arcade didn't seem to boost the attack but I am not sure.

For arcane to be viable you would basically need high level arcane gems in each slot. I found the Lost Ludwig's blade to be most viable for this because its gem set is Star-Triangle-Cresent

I believe you have to clear this version up to that point, unfortunately, if this is a non-root (fully randomized) dungeon, then the Major Door Switch and most major stuff should be in the exact same place, so you can rush it and maybe ask to summon her for the first boss and chain coop that way.

If you want to make Coop even more sketchier, the Network Password works with the Short Root chalice (the first Dungeon Chalice on the Row), whenever you get it, it allows you to quicksearch coop, personally always took a bit longer but works sometimes. (You will be spawned in a random area of dungeon and not where host is at in this case).

Thanks for all the info, wish co-op..was a bit different in chalice :/ Also does loading up her dungeon take my mats also or are they free?

If using the Ludwig's Holy Blade (or any weapon with arcane scaling that has no actual arcane damage on it) you should completely IGNORE the arcane stat. Arcane adds ZERO damage to your LHB unless it has a gem slotted that changes its damage to arcane. Doing so, completely nullifies your physical damage.

So, to clarify:
- To get more damage from your LHB, raise Strength and Skill ONLY

unless
You are going arcane and have an arcane damage gem slotted into the sword. In which case, leave Strength and Skill at minimum (16 / 12) and pump points into arcane.

In my opinion, Arcane sucks, stick to the Strength + Skill scaling of the LHB.

You're the man. Thanks for all the info.

I still find it weird that the crows sound like a pack of dogs.

There has got to be a way to kill that pig with the ball of fire.

I hope someone does a gif or video of the big guy that swings a brick repeating back and forth, that movement makes me laugh.

Everytime you use a Glyphcode to create a dungeon it is free.
BUT.
You need to make atleast one of that dungeon to "Unlock it" before hand.
I believe that includes Rites (Modifiers) for random dungeons like 50% Less Health for Better loot.
So if you make a Depth 5 Ptumerian Root Dungeon with all Rites, I'm pretty sure you can get glyphs for any Ptumerian 5 and do them for free.

Trap the werewolves behind which doors? I usually go all Van Helsing on them.

Any of the doors in the hallway by where you enter on top of the stairs. Aggro the first one in the hallway, kill it, run down the stairs and pull 3 more up with you, run up the stairs and into the hallway and they will pile up on the other side of the door frame. Or just stunlock them head on with Blade of Mercy.

See i did that exact thing for 30 - 45 minutes and got zero out of it.
Is it good though ? Heard the droprates are pretty low there.
With two Eye runes equipped this was the best spot I found. I had also tried
gargoyles in Cainhurst and the giant in lecture hall.
The drop rate is by no means high but you get a lot of chances per attempt and it goes pretty fast.

Alright back to the drawing board for me thanks guys =)

I was using the threaded cane, then the Chikage myself, now I'm wondering if I should instead try the Rifle Spear and poke him to death with the charged R2.

I don't have the Hunter's Axe, but surely that's the next best thing right?

Holy shit I can't believe that worked. 0_0

What does Burial Blade scale with?

At +10:
D Strength, B Skill, B Arcane.

It gets the vast majority of its bonus from Skill, the B in arcane is still terrible. At 30 arcane I only get +23 damage. But, it's just some nice free elemental chip damage. It's probably my favorite weapon in the game. The reach is amazing, it does great damage and the split damage means you can make the most of blood gems that add physical and elemental ATK.

I got my platinum just now as well...and I honestly LOVED the higher level chalice dungeons. They strip the game down to a pure dungeon crawler, and really are a blast.

So thats how it works. I decided to level up Arcane because LHB has A scaling for it. Realized 10 leveys later that it didn't help at all lol.

Beat that damn
fire dog
in the defiled chalice dungeon. Wow that guy was a pain took around 10 or so tries which was probably the most of any boss in the game for me.

I watched a video from someone on here beating it and figured out that hitting him in the head does more damage. The attacks that he does that do the most damage look quite a bit similiar so I just decided to gtfo unless he was swinging his head. I had him once to about 20% and everything was going great until he jumped on top of me full life to dead. Had not seen that attack before that time and didnt see it again.

Having 50% health was just great as well!!! Thanks for the punishment From!

Regarding vials: I think that they're a bit to generous. I felt it removed the tension of exploring, because you get so much new ones you're never in danger of running out of healing. On top of that they're super fast. It's definitely the easiest of healing methods so far. If I ever ran out i just did a short run through Yarnham and I had tons of new ones. I still feel Dark Souls had the most balanced healing system.

10 tries? I did 57 in Lower Loren...

I made a new character. Didn't like NG+ (so boring).
And wow...the Threaded cane is so much fun. I love this weapon. Switched from Str. to Dex. build and I don't regret it. Fuck Ludwig's Holy Blade, lol.

Same. Beat the boss on the second try. Stunlock with R1, shoot to stun more while stamina regens, then back to R1. Now to get to that dreaded second boss...

Okay so I faced my fears and made it past the spider ordeal from earlier lol. In that time span, I have:

Fought Micolash
Fought the Wet Nurse

Now when I go back to the dream, the building is on fire. The doll says to speak to him, as he's waiting on me. Is this the end of the game? Also I have all three umbilical cords. Do I eat them now?

Yes and yes

Yes, you're at the end of the game. Back up your save now if you want to get all three endings. Eat the cords before talking to Gerham.

Light, fast enemies will be a cakewalk now. Giant bosses that need to staggered will now be a pain in the ass.

General question about chalice dungeons before I start taking a look at them tomorrow: If I understood correctly, you face 4 bosses in the depth 5 dungeons. How are you supposed to go through them without running out of blood vials? I imagine it to be incredibly hard? Do your enemies frequently drop them?

There's a boss on each layer that you generate.
Each layer has a Lamp at the beginning and after Boss that acts as normal, a checkpoint but will respawn enemies if you go back to dream or Hunter's Mark.

There are tons and tons of vials in the chalices and the enemies also drop them.

You earn so much blood that buying 99 vials and 99 bullets is no big deal.

So does that mean I can go back to the Hunter's Dream to stock up on whatever I need, and then go back to and continue where I left?
(Just like in the story)

Yes, but like other lamps, things will respawn, but if you use a switch to Open progression and open the door, the door will still be open to go through.

I don't have the platinum yet but I am right there with you. I've sunk an extra 20 hours into the game beyond the story already and I haven't even touched the root chalices yet!

Ah I see. That sounds a lot more manageable than needing to go through a whole dungeon without stocking up on stuff, lol.

Thanks everyone!

Not sure if I have done that one yet, who is the boss there? I still have quite a few chalice dungeons to do but I am trying to get the platinum one done first.

It was
Loren Darkbeast, which is basically the Paarl Darkbeast with four times as many hit points, in a massive arena, and it moves faster and is harder to stun than Paarl.

I was also being stubborn and probably could have done it in fewer attempts if I had taken a break to think about it more, because I eventually slept on it and got it in 5 thereafter.

Blood vial system promotes farming, which is boring and not fun. It in no way promotes getting "gud" when the pacing of the game and your attempts are brought to a screeching halt because you gotta go back and farm a low level area for 15 minutes. Also, the inherent nature of improving yourself by very definition means you're not doing something right to begin with, thus the need for improvement. Ultimately it is a worse system than Estus flasks, which is better suited to allow people to stay in their groove and on point to defeat a boss or area. And it's not as if chugging Estus wins the game' you're still a stationary target, whereas in bloodborne u have a bit of movement which actually makes healing a bit easier in that regard.

That said, the new attack to get health back is good and adds a certain risk reward element to health. I say this is the thing to keep from this game going forward for sure, but ditch the blood vials, bring back estus.

like i said, you shouldnt have to farm vials...I realize there are differetn skill levels, but this is a different series adn a different game within the series....I am saying you are playing outside the intent if you have to farm too much...especially for 15 minutes. This was my early game "farm" location, although I wouldnt call it farming, nor boring, because I had a lot of fun with it.
