Ah, Friday is here, after a long week of classes, I can:
A) Go out
B) Play Bloodborne all night and fucking relax
You can guess which one I picked.
Okay, I feel like I'm near the end of BB.I've beaten Micolash and found the next lamp in the Nightmare of Mensis. I assume I'm near the end now? I've also found the entrance to Upper Cathedral Ward and have still to check out that shortcut I opened near Iosefka's clinic. What should I do? Am I safe to continue with the story or should I tie up the loose ends?
Appreciate any help.
Blood vial system promotes farming, which is boring and not fun. It in no way promotes getting "gud" when the pacing of the game and your attempts are brought to a screeching halt because you gotta go back and farm a low level area for 15 minutes. Also, the inherent nature of improving yourself by very definition means you're not doing something right to begin with, thus the need for improvement. Ultimately it is a worse system than Estus flasks, which is better suited to allow people to stay in their groove and on point to defeat a boss or area. And it's not as if chugging Estus wins the game' you're still a stationary target, whereas in bloodborne u have a bit of movement which actually makes healing a bit easier in that regard.
That said, the new attack to get health back is good and adds a certain risk reward element to health. I say this is the thing to keep from this game going forward for sure, but ditch the blood vials, bring back estus.

I foundeasy... first try... just reach the legs and deal damage.Amygdala
Should i do Ptumeru root or Central Ptumeru first?
I get it Everytime when fightingSometimes. It got especially bad on T O R.

You don't need to do Root ones at all.

Platinum acquired.
Now to never touch a chalice dungeon again.
I really love the world design of the main game, outside of possiblyand it's respawning mobs. The chalice dungeons just felt kind of generic in comparison, and the fact bits are constantly repeated puts a damper on them too. Not for me unfortunately. The best part was the bosses really, they offered a much bigger challenge than the main game in NG. (and NG+ so far. I'd imagine NG++ could be pretty tough though).Unseen Village
I'm not too surprised though, I went in expecting to not really like them(I've never been one for randomly generated content anyway), and quite frankly with the time they were given it would have been impossible to give them the level of quality the main game has.
Either way really enjoyed Bloodborne over all. Fantastic game.
Don't some of the Chalices drop in the root dungeons? Maybe not.. ugh. I have all of the chalices unlocked now, but I kinda wish I read a guide or something for the most efficient way to grind through them because I wound up crafting new dungeons to loot for ritual materials a lot and probably did things out of order.
Not really a spoilerChalice dungeon spoilers:
That dungeon where you have half health is a bitch.
Co-op Chalice
In order to help a friend do I have to load up their dungeon and clear to their location?
You don't need to do Root ones at all.
Roots mean they're the randomized ones, I recommend just skipping those until late depth dungeons when you actually committed to going for sweet gems.
If you have upper cathedral ward unlocked, that's the spot for chunks. Equip the eye runes and kill werewolves. You can trap them behind the doors too. From Software really should adjust the droprate of Blood Chunks. It's ridiculously low compared to normal and twin bloodstones. Every weapon is like on +6.
Hahaha, I see you had exactly the same thought process as I did:"my HP is crippled and this boss does fire damage and is really hard... I should stack HP runes and fire defense".
Then I realized the better HP rune is actually in a chalice dungeon after the Defiled one, and the better fire defense rune can be found in super hard Isz chalice dungeons too so I said "screw this" and won without those. But yeah. I sure could have used those runes. Stupid flaming watch_doge >_< Down, boy!
Of course it's different in difficulty. There's no caution about using estus during a boss fight because if you die they'll all come back.
Bloodborne is a horror game. Having finite resource management makes perfect sense in a horror game.
Stop spouting your opinion like it's fact, please. I don't think it's a fault at all. They didn't "correct" anything with Dark Souls, they changed it because the game structure was different and Estus made sense for Dark Souls. Estus would not make much sense in Bloodborne because it's a different game.
I honestly can't believe people complain about the blood vial system. They drop like candy, they heal instantly, you have up to 20 (actually, even more with runes!) since the very beginning and can accumulate tons super fast, and for the most part you don't even need them much because you can regain health with the regain system. And moreover, outside of ONE boss I've encountered so far (A, an optional and difficult Chalice Dungeon boss), bosses don't even punish vial use.bhorrent Beast
The game is exceedingly generous with HP recovery in the form of the regain system and potions that drop like candy and are quick and easy to use. Now they want them to auto-refill too, like that wasn't enough? SMH.
Quick question to those bitching about vials: have you played Demon's Souls? I'm curious, but I have a hunch that the complainers started the series with Dark Souls and don't know any other system.
Just want to highlight these two fine posts. Agreed 100% (and I like your more detailed post about this too, KZO, just didn't quote it for the sake of space).
As an example, my fight againstin the Defiled Chalice Dungeon really showcased this: if I got hit and survived, I could either retreat and heal, or whack away to regain some health. I usually chose to do the latter, because my weapon (theAmygdala) has really strong regain and recovered everything I had lost really quickly. But it was a risk, sometimes I'd mistime my hits and would get punished. So what I did is, early into the fight, try to recover health that way to save vials. If I judged it too risky, especially if I'm late into the fight and close to winning, I'd back away to heal because I really really didn't want to die. In the end, I used almost no vial for the first half of the fight, and used about 7-8 in the last 1/4th of the fight (usually having to pop 2 in a row to fully recover my health, some of the attacks nearly OHKO so I'd sometimes make sure to be full to survive with a sliver left if I did get hit).burial blade
That way, if I die really early on into the fight through bad luck or a mistimed dodge, I'd waste few, or no, vials at all. This boss took me several retries but I hardly wasted vials at all thanks to this. With estus there'd be no such tension.
Yes, even when doing non-root, they have another glyph code.
Make sure your host / friend has their dungeon to OPEN.
Then use their glyph code, and from there the host can ring the host bell and proceed as normal (You ring your coopter bell in same area) of the dungeon of same Glyph Code.
The layouts don't get more interesting, but they do get more challenging and give better loot, which makes them much more enjoyable. Some of the boss fights are really hard but fun.Is it worth going back to finish the Chalice Dungeons? I thought they were pretty boring and repetitive. Do they get more interesting later on? Because I'm not sure if it's worth doing them, to be honest.
If you have upper cathedral ward unlocked, that's the spot for chunks. Equip the eye runes and kill werewolves. You can trap them behind the doors too.
This is a fine note.

Thank you!
So I'm sitting in her dungeon at lvl 1, and she's at the lvl 2 boss. If I ring will I just be summoned to her? or do I have to clear in this copy dungeon all the way to lvl 2?
On that subject: I'm doing the Defiled Chalice dungeons, how long until Yharam?
Yeah might be thinking of ones that aren't required. I have some sinister and root chalices and I guess I don't need the root ones at all for platinum if you don't need to enter them. But I definitely got some of the best loot from depth 5 root dungeons.Oh, not sure about the full picture. But if someone's going for the plat it isn't needed atleast, I never went into one. It seems like you always got the next chalice from the last boss of the one before it though.
If using the Ludwig's Holy Blade (or any weapon with arcane scaling that has no actual arcane damage on it) you should completely IGNORE the arcane stat. Arcane adds ZERO damage to your LHB unless it has a gem slotted that changes its damage to arcane. Doing so, completely nullifies your physical damage.I've been able to upgradeto +10 but after reading another read I learned that upgrading arcane and strength would also make this weapon more powerful. My strength is at 16 and my arcane is at like 10. I didn't know what they were so I didn't bother upgrading them... for this particular weapon, does anyone know what which of these attributes I should be upgrading and what it will do. ThanksLudwig's Holy Blade
From Software really should adjust the droprate of Blood Chunks. It's ridiculously low compared to normal and twin bloodstones. Every weapon is like on +6.
The layouts don't get more interesting, but they do get more challenging and give better loot, which makes them much more enjoyable. Some of the boss fights are really hard but fun.
The dungeons themselves don't get much more interesting but a few of the toughest boss battles are there if you like challenges.
Also, the best boss in BB is at the very end. I really wish it was the true final boss as it's so much better than what we got. It takes about 20-30 hours of Chalice Dungeons to reachthough.her

There are some color pallete and lighting differences. Each chalice has unique room types, which are fairly similar to equivalent room types of other chalices, so once you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all. I can recognize what a bonus / side area is and know when I can quickly use a hunters bone to get out if an area is probably clear. The grind for more materials isn't very exciting but at least it feels better to pick up some ritual blood that you need instead of some bullets you can't pick up.The layouts were my big problem with it, ah well.
The bosses are probably going to be the only things I care about in the Chalice Dungeons. Maybe I'll just go through it once for completion sake, but I don't see myself getting any replay value from it.
See i did that exact thing for 30 - 45 minutes and got zero out of it.
Can someone help me withGherman
That shows more why the hit to regain health mechanic is good, it's not really connected to vials. I love the addition of the former.
Agreed. If using the Ludwig's Holy Blade (or any weapon with arcane scaling that has no actual arcane damage on it) you should completely IGNORE the arcane stat. Arcane adds ZERO damage to your LHB unless it has a gem slotted that changes its damage to arcane. Doing so, completely nullifies your physical damage.
So, to clarify:
- To get more damage from your LHB, raise Strength and Skill ONLY
unless
You are going arcane and have an arcane damage gem slotted into the sword. In which case, leave Strength and Skill at minimum (16 / 12) and pump points into arcane.
In my opinion, Arcane sucks, stick to the Strength + Skill scaling of the LHB.
