Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

I'm working on a Kirkhammer/Tonitrus character, I gotta say, I don't enjoy them at all. STR is not very good in this game imo, at least for PVE.

Ugh, almost getting to the point where I'm almost not having fun (Mensis)

Having to run past all those guys, then past the dozen spiders I have to kill and continuously die at that stupid hunter that takes half my health with every blow is getting extremely frustrating.

Get on the hunter's backside aggressively. Don't wait for him to attack before you dodge. You can just R1 a few times and he'll stay stun-locked.

I've never died at that hunter, always thought he was really easy. I think it just suits my play style.

Any time someone says "X weapon just isn't good" I always think in my head "you just aren't using it right"

If you get used to one type of weapon and try to transfer how you use it to another, it's going to take a while to get it to work.

I agree.

I was very disappointed in the
Chikage
when I first got it, but after I practiced with it more, and learned it behaves quite a bit differently than the other weapons, I got hooked and I loved it through the rest of the game.

Praise the good blood. Platinum got.

The game is a masterpiece. One of my favorite gaming experiences ever. Everything about it is great. I even like the Chalice dungeons. Been playing the hell out of them. Hopefully we get some dlc sooner rather than later. I almost can't believe I am saying that but this is one game I don't want to end.

Hardest bosses:
Defiled Watchdog, Ebrietas, Abhorrent Beast, and Pthumerian Descendent in Ihyll. Only Ebrietas feels 'cheap' to me because she seems so unpredictable. I'm not sure if I am missing any attack tells, or if she is just too random.

I don't think the game is any harder or easier than previous Souls games, and this is coming from a guy that parried a grand total of maybe 3 times ever in the other games.

Farming tip:
Get to layer 3 of the Isz Chalice as soon as you can. With bonus Echo runes equipped you can get about 120K every 5 minutes or so.

Chalice tip:
Illusory walls in Chalices seem to make noise, so listen.

A couple videos of my boss fights:
Defiled Watchdog. About halfway through, if you watch closely you can see the Watchdog 'snap' into each part of the attack animation as I trigger it. I knew I had him once I figured that out. Watch his shoulders and neck area.

Back to the Hunt fellow Hunters. So the world might be mended...

Those are the weapons I'm using now near the end of my second play through and they are awesome when upgraded and with some nice gems slotted. The hammer staggers everything, the 1h sword moveset is good, and the Tonitrus is a boss killer.

What origin should I start with? I'm so new to all this but I'm leaning between Cruel Fate or Military Veteran. Is there a good choice that benefits you in the beginning?

Military Vet is good. Just stay away from Noble Scion until you're confident. Same for Waste of Skin.

Edit: Most of them are okay, in the end. They can all be melded into whatever you want eventually.

Just rebumping with some things fixed, thanks to all those who helped out before.
Didn't see this mentioned in your move list, not sure if anyone else has brought it up yet: don't think it applies to all weapons but when locked on, strafing sidestep attacks are different from advancing/retreating sidesteps. This is most apparent when two handing the burial blade, you get horizontal swipes and vertical swipes respectively.

Is there a max level for first playthrough?
I just got a Chikage, I'm Level 82 and I beat
Logarius and The One Reborn.

I'm wondering mainly if it'll be worth it because I haven't invested in Bloodtinge yet so I only have 7 and I think I need 13.

Nope, but eventually you won't be gaining enough echoes to level up easily.

Also,
Chikage
is heavily dependant on Bloodtinge. I would recommend getting 50 for it, so you may want to save it for another play-through. It's a weapon you want to build the entire character for.

Run past the hunter there's a check point very close.

Just pick whichever one thinks fits best with the type of weapons you want to use. I always go for Waste of Skin so I have the most malleability in my build.

I wish there were some more cooler looking hats in the game. I feel like I always use the same 2 hats with every character.

I just use the worn hunter's cap or crown. Sometimes I just run around in the crown with the ballroom dress and get all bloody which is amusing.

you could just
not follow him when he jumps down to the room below. i stayed on top and just threw things at him and shot at him until he died

I just jumped down and
immediately attacked which made him not trap himself up.

Ahh alright that makes sense. Thanks!

I still can't find any solid info on chalice dungeons. I *think* I completed "Pthumerian Labyrinth"
I killed a dog thing that was on fire
Does that mean I have to delete the dungeon to use my pthumerian root chalice? Is my pthumerian chalice gone forever or can I reuse it? Since it isn't a random one is there any benefit to doing it over? From what I understand is that a root chalice is randomly generated and a non root isn't. Is it random every time I enter or every time I preform the ritual?

The
Bloodletting
Beast was a pushover, what were people going on about? Just stay on his ass, he cannot hit you in close range.

I just died while trying to help
Eileen fight Henryk
am I screwed?

Edit: NG+ btw

2nd Edit: nope, nvm. Had a little surprise after the loading screen

As soon as I jump down he does that wide area attack, it hits me, stuns me, as soon I'm good to go again he just does it again, I keep dodging and he just keeps doing it.

Gotta get u in his face and prompt that snake out the arms attack. Step left - attack till tender - prompt snakes - step right - attack till tender - repeat.

Sorry it's giving you trouble. In the grand scheme of the BB bosses he's definitely one of the easier ones.

Quick GAF, pick! Axe or Hammer or Ludwig and why?
Not even vaguely an even contest. Axe is the best weapon. Hammer in blade form has speed but lacks reach or power. In hammer form it hits for non-optimal damage at the incorrect range. Ludwig is slightly faster for normal L2 form swings, but the charged attack is way slower. Axe has the best reach, does not suffer from lowered damage from hitting things at the incorrect range, and has the incredibly abusable L2 charge attack.

Does that mean I have to delete the dungeon to use my pthumerian root chalice?

You don't need to delete it. You have 5 others tombstones to use other chalices on.

Is my pthumerian chalice gone forever or can I reuse it?

You can re-use it, as long as you have the required materials. The chalices won't disappear.

Since it isn't a random one is there any benefit to doing it over?

You can find items you may have missed the first time through, and you can use them to grind if need be.

From what I understand is that a root chalice is randomly generated and a non root isn't. Is it random every time I enter or every time I preform the ritual?

Only after the ritual.

Just defeated the final boss!!!

got the ending where I basically filled his role

Good lord he was difficult. Had to spend all of my blood I've gathered throughout the game to stock up on bullets and learn to parry him. Nearly gave up too before I had the upper hand. Wish I recorded it.

But there are obviously more than five chalices in the game. But I guess since I can reuse it there is no downside to deleting it, right?

Yeah. If you need an open tombstone, delete them. I would typically delete them after I completed them.

The exception would be if I did a root chalice that had good enemy spawns that I could farm gems off of.

That's a really cool build, might have to try it out myself sometime.

I had a lot of fun with it. Chikage is definitely an interesting weapon to use. Evelyn can wreck something fierce as well. Got me through some tough bosses.

Just beat (optional area
Castle
)
Logarius

and then I found a person who I
swore allegiance to. Don't know if that was a bad call, but it got me a SWEET armor set.

However, I am thinking I was bugged because the boss was STUPIDLY easy. I looked it up after and he never even went into his 2nd phase :| Pretty freaking dumb, From.
