If you can't descend any further you finished it.

Only way to know is if the boss area doesn't lead to another area. Sounds like you've completed that one.

I had this problem when i first played through the game. The bosses got to easy. I would stop leveling strength and skill. Being overleveled took alot of the fun away from fighting bosses for me. Now im underleveled im getting my butt whooped.

Damn, I guessed I fucked it up. I'll stop leveling strength and skill. And vitality. And probably endurance too. I think I'll just spend my echoes on materials for Chalice rituals. Is there any way to respec, so I can lower some of my atributes?

You usually get a new chalice from the final boss of a chalice. If you don't get one, then you can't go any deeper in it.

What I did is that as soon as I started NG+ I did the coffin skip and went to the forest to do the blood echoes glitch, gathered around 500k echoes and spent all the blood echoes on blood vials. Then I went back to the forest and and activated the trap to let the dogs out so I couldn't use the glitch anymore.

Two shot the "first" final boss, then one shot the Moon boss when he came. To be fair, I'm way overleveled though. The Moon boss was a lot easier than the one before it, though.

Well you're done with that specific depth. Basically each "area"(Ailing Loran, Pthumeru etc) has different depths. Penultimate boss of the depth gives the root chalice for it(that's the chalice you use to create random variations of it). The final boss gives you the chalice for the next depth.

Consequently, if you can't progress any further in a depth, and you haven't got the chalice for the next depth then you can assume you're done with that "area". In pthumeru's case, you get a trophy for completing it.

Before him, traveling from the witch's abode to the first lamp is great. With a rune to increase echos from kills and visceral attacks, the executioners are worth almost 4,000. Plus, the dogs can drop twin shards.
