Will Kojima pull another "Raiden" in Phantom Pain?

I dont believe any of the media for this whatsoever. When Ground Zeroes was shown, there were two "agents" that were at the intro of the game. Kojima refused to acknowledge fox engine was for Metal Gear.

Every mainline game since MGS that Kojima had a part in has had a bullshit story trailer.

Basically, i fully expect Hayter to be in this game, i expect the Quiet stuff to be completely bullshit from what we've seen(she doesnt actually exist or is some form of Big Boss' hallucinations) and the hospital stuff to be someone besides Big Boss like we're lead to believe.

Cant wait to play it.

Uh...what?

He also has said to press this whole time that you will play as Big Boss in MGSV. If in the final game, you turn out not to be playing as Big Boss, that is a lie to the players about what they will get for their money.

Big Boss is just a name. Anyone can have it.

all due respect, i think with an idea as ridiculous as gray fox looking exactly like big boss and being the secret main character in mgsv, the burden of proof is on you. any pytho selkan video i've watched has been nothing but wild grasping at straws.

again, people come up with silly shit like this everytime kojima releases a new MGS. crazy theories like this have been the norm since the very first MGS3 trailer was shown. two prevailing silly ideas continually come up. (1) the main character is not who kojima is saying he is, (2) the game is some sort of VR simulation. and game after game we've continually gotten exactly what was shown to us

there may be some sequence where you control someone else, like SS for example, but for the most part, what we've been shown is what we will get. that being a game about big boss waking up from a coma and rebuilding a base of mercs. peace walker in various open world environments.

What did you find silly about the theories exactly? Sure, most of what is shown won't be blown out of ridiculous proportions. There is however clear evidence of mystery surrounding the plot this time around. So we will find out one or two twists.

for MGS2 he said the whole time until release that you play as Snake. We all know that wasnt true

of course, there's always going to be twists in a metal gear game. and there are certainly several interesting mysteries surrounding ground zeros with the medic, but none of that indicates in any way that the main character in mgsv isn't big boss, nor that it's gray fox. that's the silly part of the python videos, there's no smoking gun...there's no direct link or indication of gray fox in any meaningful way

So you are worried that there would be no meanful reason for Grey Fox to be Snake? That was my thoughts when hearing about it for the first time. Why go through the trouble of telling an alternate story for characters that already have enough back story. Grey Fox's moral objective is to achieve his mission. Nothing personal, business is business. The funny thing is that Solid Snake also feels the same way. Now just change the objective for Snake. He was only placed in the role of the hero. It was not his choice. His role on the battlefield does not give him those rights. Now take a game like TPP and ask yourself, what would Grey Fox do if he was Snake or Big Boss? Don't you see? They all have the same life. They can switch alias at the press of a button. This is an interesting concept to me because Grey Fox or any other soldier could have the same history, but its all routine operation. History is written and fulfilled on multiple occasions to elect the right man for the job. Whether or not they are clone, acting, or going through VR. Its their responsibiliy to get the job done.

this is an interesting discussion of some of the themes metal gear tackles, but it's far from an sort of tangible evidence that we aren't playing as big boss

Big Boss is just a name. Anyone can have it.

Big Boss is an established character whose beginning and end we have already seen. We saw Naked Snake earn the title at the end of MGS3 by defeating The Boss, we saw him betray Solid Snake in Metal Gear, and we saw him die in MGS4. Multiple characters are established as clones of the Big Boss we met in MGS3. There can only be one Big Boss.

Big Boss made his choices by defying the system and acting for himself, fitting the theme of "player choice" in MGSV. If another person makes those choices for him, his story is meaningless.

for MGS2 he said the whole time until release that you play as Snake. We all know that wasnt true

And Kojima regrets what he did with MGS2 because of how bitterly many fans reacted. He won't do it again.

Kojima did what he did because he wanted MGS to end. He wanted mgs2 to be his final mgs game. He was basically trying to pass the torch on to his team and move on.

obviously that didnt happen.

What would you disprove exactly about the Grey Fox theories though? That GZ corrupt video analysis sealed the deal for me. Now I need convincing that Snake is not Grey Fox.

You kidding me? The name Snake and Boss are thrown around like hacky sacks? Even Raiden was called Snake. Boss was also BB's leaders name.

I think no matter what is really said, no amount of "evidence" (and I use that word loosely) can really stop the fact that the Grey Fox as Snake issue is just fucking dumb to anyone with any common sense. I mean, really, I wish there was a way to say it that was nicer, but honestly...it's just borderline gibberish.

It's akin to the whole time traveling Patriots theory that I vaguely recall being thrown around when MGS4 was about to come out. One of those things that you look at now with a chuckle thinking that anyone believed something like that, fodder for a future, "Video game fan theories that were just ridiculous" thread.

Also, BB is not nessessarly making choices on his own. He is living the Boss's legacy. Cipher wanted to change the system. Anyone playing BB, would be going by the legacy.

Uh...what?
Exactly what it says. He has metal in his skull, theres a good possibillity some things wont be real(phantom) and he may hallucinate like soldiers do when going through a trama. I think Quiet may not exist to anyone besides Big Boss. Its also a great way to explain why she doesnt speak

Okay, so just to be clear, you think Quiet exists in the sense that she is a character in the game, but she not be real within the story, right? That, I see what you're saying (I don't think that, but I can see where you're coming from). But she's definitely going to be in TPP in some form. They aren't going to put her in so much marketing and actually make figures of her if she isn't even a thing in the game.

Yea. Shes in the game, just not a real living person in the story.

I think he'll pull off something awesome with what he said that players who own Ground Zeroes will be able to go back to Camp Omega in something that has never been done in the history of games.

Aside from that, I'd rather not imagine things, but be surprised with what he'll do.

I don't care what anyone says. Even the most crazy ideas can be turned into something. You just have to challenge yourself and be aware of the lore. I don't think it will be like Gray Fox transforming brains with BB or science fiction crap. Its probably something to do with technology and hallucinative drugs. GZ was about brain washing. TTP has sky whales. Which are most likely not going to exist in the game as real beings.

I'm not sure if you've been avoiding spoilers or something but there's been a cutscene released which pretty much nullifies this theory.

The "Quiet" trailer that they released kind of dismisses that idea...since both Kaz and Ocelot acknowledge her.

Unless Kojima is just making bullshit trailers to throw us off, which is always a possibility I suppose.

Yep he will.

If the game does pull a switcheroo, then at least I'll be prepared this time. And by prepared I mean I'm not buying the game the day one (probably never tbh).

Fuck you MGS2.

The dream is obviously a Metal Gear 1/2 remake at the end with more plot and less using an owl to trick a guard that it's night time to disable an electrified fence, along with less firing remote control missiles at a surprisingly resilient old man who is clinging onto your back.

Not a chance. Ocelot is a gunslinging tryhard. He's an incredible spy and triple agent, but he has nowhere near the field experience and combat skills. Playing as Ocelot makes zero sense.

Not to mention MGSV is about Big Boss' descent into madness, pulling a Raiden would undermine that entire concept.

I disagree, he goes toe to toe with Big Boss in the plane after completing the Snake Eater mission. I know that isn't BB in his prime, but he certainly puts up one hell of a fight.

tryhard?! what

Quiet is the new Yuffie

Wouldn't it be great if it turned out that TPP takes place in an alternate reality where Big Boss never becomes the villain we know
and love?

I actually think that would make a lot of people very angry.

Would they even be able to pull off a Raiden-esque surprise in 2015? With the internet as prevalent as it is now it feels like it would be more difficult to keep major gameplay stuff secret

They could always pull it off. The Darth Vader -> Luke's father reveal was kept secret to everyone who worked on Empire Strikes Back except Hamill and James Earl Jones, with them going so far as to replace that particular line in the versions of the script that the other actors got. Kojima is the type of person to do something a lot like this, and he definitely could if he wanted to, even in the internet age. Just look at the reveal trailer for Phantom Pain - he released it alongside Ground Zeroes, initially hid its identity as a Metal Gear game, and even went as far as creating a fake studio and producer for the game. People figured out something was up, but nothing was able to be confirmed until Kojima came out and did it himself.

That's exactly what Kojima said in an interview, with the age of the internet now it's very hard to keep a secret but he still wants to try it and hopefully can surprise people like he did with MGS2.
