Frenzy is a bullshit status effect. I feel like it kills me out of nowhere!

Really, the whole Nightmare Frontier zone is terrible. Yetis are the dumbest looking enemies in the game (except for the other awful looking Nightmare enemies, the boy and his blob students.) Yetis are some of the most frustrating enemies. Getting pelted by a rock silently heaved from half the map away sucks. Getting pelted by the pieces of that rock after it breaks apart is even suckier! The zone is full of little tiny rocks that impede movement. Frustrating when just moving around. Downright infuriating when trying to avoid being smashed by a Yeti boulder. And then obviously half the zone is poisonous. It's like every annoying mechanic in the game packed into a single zone. FROM really messed up by keeping most of the Frenzy mobs in Nightmare of Mensis because a half dozen of them walking around Nightmare Frontier would have cemented it as the worst zone in any Souls game, ever.

So after thinking i was a bit overleveled at 50-55 because i killed Rom on the third try the game is now kicking my ass in Unseen Village and Nightmare frontier. So i decided to go to Cainhurst Castle but had to look up some YT video's on how to get there. How do people find this stuff out? Getting the summons is one thing because of exploring and stuff. But to trigger the cutscene.. Id never would have found out by myself.

Read the item description for the summons. It says departs from Hemwick which is a pretty tiny area. It's either near the monument near the lamp or the other one after the gate.

When it froze for a second did you get a weird audio tone from your tv?

Not really a tone, just the usual machine freezing stuff and audio. That honestly scared the living shit out of me.

That happens all the time, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm hoping the freezes become less frequent as I head further on into the game. I can handle Forbidden Wood's
Snake head people
but not freezes.

I'm really taking my time with this game; especially with MLB sprinkled in there but I just finished AMY G. I believe that i'm nearing the end but I want to do the chalice dungeon stuff first. How far can I go in the main game before I can no longer do chalice dungeon OR should I finish it and then do the dungeons in NG+?

Just beat the O
ne
R
eborn
.

Not bad. 3 tries.

Apparently you can
go up on the ledge and kill the witches shooting fire at you? Good to know now. lol.

I think I am pretty close to the end. Someone said I am about 80% bar 1 or two optional quests I should go back and do which I guess Ill do now.

35 hours in BTW.

Best not to post within five minutes of dying...

It's a great level. Tough and punishing, but very rewarding once mastered.

Frenzy is so stupid :\ Its near impossible to avoid it. And you cant sneak up on those enemies either.

You can roll out of frenzy. It's pretty ridiculous, but, when you're about to be damaged by it, just roll.

The ideia of "Oh my God, I'm freaking out... I better roll" makes me laugh more than it should lol

EDIT: I believe frenzy scales with the number of insight the character has, going from 70% HP with 0 insight to 90% with 99 insight. At least that's what I feel like after running through the game. Can anyone confirm?

Well, I for one disagree completly. In fact Nightmare Frontier was one of my favorite areas in the game! There are plenty of ways to deal with frenzy - be it resistant gear/runes or/and sedatives. Like always aggressive approaches work wonders, yetis can usually be rushed down quite easily. Poison is relativly easy to deal with as well, seeing how many antidotes you can find throughout the game. There are lots of ways to make Nightmare Frontier a fun ride. Yes you might die here and there - but that goes for pretty much any zone in Souls games doesn't it?

All this talk of mats needed for the chalice dungeons. I'm at the end of the game and just started them and the first was super easy but my issues is now i have no materials to open the next one. I don't understand how everyone is saying you shouldn't need to farm. I collect everything on my way and I dont even have enough to proceed with these super easy dungeons.

You let it build up in the meter a bit before using the sedative. Using the sedative resets the meter. So you deal with it, use a vial if you must and a sedative as described and you'll be managing it properly.

Something I'm not 100% sure is always valid about Frenzy... but is it related to looking at the enemy? I'm pretty sure this is valid for N
ightmare of
M
ensis red light
, when I turned back the Frenzy effect seems to starting to wear off... It was different on
enemies from Nightmare Frontier
, if I don't look at them seems to still increase, but if they have the back on me Frenzy seems to have no effect.

With the proper items you can manage Frenzy more easily then Poison, anyway.

I'll have you know I conquered the Nightmare Frontier sometime this past weekend. No FROM content is safe from my cane.

That being the case these are still stone cold facts:

1. Yetis are dumb looking.
2. Being stopped in my tracks by what appears to be a tiny pebble is incredibly annoying.
3. The jellied students of the Mensis School still wear blazers and graduation caps. Even though they are now made of jelly. I can't even.

Very nice! One of the worst for me in the game lol. Took way to many tries :p

Applying firepaper helped, also dodging right before she strikes and trying to get behind her and attack. I used all heavy attacks. She was one of the quickest boss fights I've done. Took me maybe 5-8 tries, which would be roughly 15mins in attempts. I've spent sometimes over 2hrs of retrying other boss fights.

13 of

bosses down, time for the home stretch.

I absolutely adore this game. As a big Souls fan I came in with huge expectations and they have all been met or surpassed. Everything from the best in class level design to the unforgettable boss fights is simply superb and exactly what I'm looking for in a good video game. An instant classic without a doubt.

Also, after reaching Old Yarnham and furthering on, my character has these odd moments of walking instead of running when I have the stick pushed to the fullest.

I have that exact same issue and it's really really irritating. I only seen to have the issue with one of my controllers tho as when I connect my second controller it stops. Both work fine in other games.

I agree. Also, I disagree with the people saying it is a great area. Both nightmare areas are pretty bad, in my opinion.

Gotta agree about Nightmare of Mensis. Nothing interesting or fun about that zone, just frustration for frustration's sake. They just lumped in every stupid mechanic they could think of.
Frenzy is the most bullshit status effect in any RPG. I'd rather they cast Doom, ffs.
Boss fight is good, but it doesn't excuse the zone.

I feel very intimidated by
The One Reborn
right now. Not sure where to focus my attacks. I'm pretty sure I hate the look and design of the creature as well and I haven't played the game for almost a week because of it. :(

Did you kill the bell maidens at the top? Do that first, and then simply stay by its side, hacking it at every chance. Just be careful when it summons a dark red glow, because that means it will drop body parts on top of you. When it happens, move to either side and keep hacking away. Just be watchful of your stamina and Stay away from those arms (as they deal huge damage and may stun lock you), and it'll go down in no time. It is actually a very easy boss, second easiest for me so far.

Why do I get no response to my beckoning bell?, tried it a number of times, and waited for 20 mins, and nothing.

I don't use suspend / resume, so it can't be that, and otherwise have no network issues.

He was maybe the easiest boss for me. I wore something with fairly strong fire defense and just rushed him, hacking at his base. The damage from fireballs was mostly negated by the regain system. I just dashed away if I needed to pop a vial or when he glows and does his big area affect attack.

I found it pretty enjoyable. As someone said already, with the proper precautions in the first part Frenzy is not a problem you just need
to repair behind rocks to avoid the red light, with enough runes. I used only a couple of Sedative. And the invisible potion is useful for rush past the giants and inside the main gate
Plus a lot of shortcuts in there.

Ashen Hunter set makes frenzy not so bad in Nightmare of Mensis. I love both of the Nightmare zones, especially for the unique visual design. I ran through the
poison area in Nightmare Frontier once, not sure if I missed anything down there, though.

Do you see a lot of notes on the ground? I've noticed that if you cannot see any white notes scattered along the level then you are having trouble connecting to their servers (eventhough it doesn't tell you this).

Try a hard reboot of the PS4 and then zone in/out of the level until you see activity (white notes, ghosts of people walking around, etc).

Adding to Machinehead's post, once you cause enough damage, the One Reborn will fall, leaving the "main body"(the corpse that casts magic) vunerable, so attack it for extra damage + chance to stagger and keep the enemy in a loop.

Yes, I see plenty of notes and spectres

Can someone tell me where to go next after defeating
vicar Amelia
?

I forgot what item I picked up from her.

You need to check the
skull on the Cathedral altar, see the cutscene, and speak with the password dude behind the door in C. Ward. It's on the west side of the cathedral plaza: can't remember if the way is just before the gate for the plaza or inside the plaza, behind one of the giants

Does that lead to the fight with the
witch
? If so, I have defeated her.

Yes... In this case, check the skull in the altar, after defeating Amelia. You'll se a cutscene. then head down the stairs, past the giant, grave keepers and dog, and you'll see a closed gate. Use the leaver to open it. Inside the new area, look for a corridor on the left, with a giant sitting right in front of it. That's the way to go.

The door that ask for a password. In the cathedral high circular area, the path away with giant sitting down.

Ah thanks, I managed to find my way ( don't know how) to that door.

I'm at the
forbidden woods
how far into the game am I?
