Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade pre-location test live stream

I hope they do a trailer for all the characters like they did for Y'shtola.

Also where be all the villains? :(
I want my Ultimecia.

it's been too long since i played the dissidia games
just give us general impressions on the game as a whole

Based on ultra compressed Youtube video?

what does youtube compression have to do with apparent aliasing? Never have understood that statement as it is always used.

Not like video compression actually adds aliasing to a video. In all actuality the bad compression would actually hide some texture detail and muddy the texturing which can actually help aliasing within the smaller windows.

Looks like EX system is aimed at party play in this one. You use EX moves to buff your party for a limited time for example.
Now that I think about it, battling as a party makes a lot of sense for a FF All-stars fighting game.

you can summon summons by yourself as well but it'll take a long time

edit: seems like there's some kind of meta? "each battle influences who controls the world"?

Chaos vs Cosmos setting has been completely discarded.
I think this has been confirmed before but they're planning to continuously update the arcade version with new content.
14 characters (Heroes of light from WoL to Y'Shtola) at launch... The rest of the 50 to be added with updates.
Personal data for arcade version is saved on the server and can be accessed with a NESICA ID card.

Characters are categorized into HEAVY, SHOOT or SPEED based on their play style.

Cloud is HEAVY
Lightning is SPEED
Terra is SHOOT
WoL is HEAVY
Onion Knight is SPEED
Y'shtola is SHOOT

You can have multiple of the same character on a team. Current fight is 2 Clouds and an Onion Knight versus yet another Cloud, WoL and Terra

I don't know what to think, the situations are too different to compare and PS4's version has more time to being polished
I still don't dig Team Ninja's models and think they need some help, they aren't very expresive...

Why didn't they make the HUD in the PS4 bigger? I mean there is still some screen space left and it's a shame to make go to waste.

Cover it all with big ugly awful HUD and over size map.

I wish Dissidia was more of a... normal fighter? When I played Dissidia 012 a few years ago, I had no idea what was going on even after like 8 hours of playing, lol. It never made sense to me and every battle felt awkward so I quit. I would have just preferred a fighting game with regular health bars, no numbers, no "break", maybe even 2D only. I just want to fight with FF characters! :P

This livestream just looks like a lot of chaos.

That Dancing Mad though

It's actually pretty similar to a regular fighting game, with a lot hanging on timing of the moves and blocking, and strategizing around distance and time. With this, I'm not sure how well the 3 vs 3 concept is working out. The Y'shtola fight in the stream looked like... the player didn't directly assault the opponent a whole lot but the computer-controlled allies won the fight anyway. WTB dissidia carry

I think maybe the 3v3 is what is throwing me off this particular stream. I'd prefer 1v1 battles personally so I can focus on what's going on instead of chaos happening all over the stream. I want to give this game a try when/if it comes to PS4, but hopefully it'll make more sense than the PSP versions did, lol.

That Dancing Mad though

Maybe it's from the talking over it or the need to make it more loopable, but it didn't quite click with me the way something like the Distant Worlds version does.

As a party-based game, it should be totally viable to play as a buffer/healer, with the different pacing that implies, but I guess the bulk of her skills are still damage-based?

Welp, that's it.

Too bad the trailers were uploaded early =X

Anyway, looks good, I'll be waiting for the impressions once testing starts.

I don't understand some stuff though (like the crystal that appears out of nowhere sometimes), but it seems very much like Dissidia as a 3v3...

Hmm, just the 14 main characters at launch? I'd think they would sneak some villains in there
also what a great opportunity for Square to ditch Vaan and put Balthier in the starting roster

Can't wait to fight the triple Sephirot army online

I think it's 14 from the hero side, and then however many from the villain side?

That's what I understood at least. 14 total seems very low for a game that has 6 characters in a match.

The soundtrack arrangements do sound vaguely Tecmo Koei even though it's Ishimoto on the music again.

It's 14 characters at launch, all primary heroes.

Hmm, so basically we're looking at a vanilla PSP Dissidia situation here? The main hero plus the main villain with party members/sub villains added down the line? That would be swell.

Welp. It's to be expected, new character models and all

I'm just hoping he's going to be VIII Squall. I know I'll be disappointed because they'll use his Dissidia design which I'm not a fan of. Every character get's their Amano designs while Squall only get's a hybrid up until 012 where it's an alt costume.

I wouldn't think it's definite - using Cloud as an example, the Compilation Buster Sword and more PSX-ish hairstyle seen in the arcade version are clear points of departure from the original Dissidia design. Characters which use elements of both original and Amano designs like Sephiroth and Squall might display similar differences between versions.

Also, I wonder which location is gonna be used to represent XIV. Knowing Square we'll probably get something boring like La Noscean meadows... although every other game gets something endgame-looking.

I'm actually liking the stage selection a lot more here - the PSP games mainly used the final dungeons, which while important in their own games kind of got a little samey when put up against each other. Midgar, Castle Cornelia and Eden are much more distinct representations of each game's aesthetic - hopefully XIV receives something similarly iconic.

Too used to Smash Bros. hype.

Expected a new character reveal at the end :\

Oh well.

To be fair, most Smash streams outside of Directs didn't have reveals associated with them either, despite how many people expected them. And in this case, the characters themselves are mostly known quantities for the initial release.
