I got Keeper of the Old Lords down in the defiled dungeon yesterday. Felt good man. Hands were shaking after I landed that final hit. Looks like I got a dog to worry about next...

Bloodtinge build is freaking awesome once you unlock the Chikage & Evelyn.

Now I'm torn if I should put my next few levels on skill or vitality/endurance, since the one handed chikage scales with skill.

I know I'm gonna need the vitality for the defiled chalice, I'm not sure 40 vitality is enough for that (I don't want to go over lvl 100 for PvP).

40 is enough if you have runes that bump up your HP.

what is your bloodtinge level?
I'm working on a bloodtinge build and acquire the chikage yesterday.
my current bloodtinge level is 28 I think and chikage is at +4.
weak as fuck.
bullets don't do much either.
and you need the secondary mode for the chikage to benifite from bloodtinge, don't you?
how do you deal with the health loss?

ritterplatsch +6 is my go to weapon at the moment.

vitality is overrated for PVE....as long as you can avoid the OHK, it doesnt really matter how long your bar is...if you got vials you just have to heal more quickly on the fly. Whenever I am limiting my levels vitality is the first to stay low....I am at the defiled dungeon right now, and just beat the emissary at level 85 or so, and have 23 vitality. PVP is another story but still it hurts to put any points there.

Finally beat the Defiled dungeon yesterday evening. I'm thankful for the level 3 boss, because that was an easy, relaxed fight to finish the dungeon. Funny thing happened, after getting killed the first time by the layer 2 boss I returned to the Hunter's Dream and realized I had 3 Moon runes equipped instead of something more useful. Oops.

Is it better to send the npcs to the cathedral or iosefka?
Basically this,
Depends on the NPC (you will know which one I am referring to once you encounter the NPC) but
Cathedral is a better place
But be aware that
besides this particular NPC, all the others have their own idiosyncrasies...

Is it better to send the npcs to the cathedral or iosefka?

Certain people to one and some to the other. It can effect your ability to get the true ending if you make the wrong choices (but it's not impossible to still get it if you do).

Spoilers below on where I sent people. Click at your own risk. It may spoil a few surprises.

Old woman - Cathedral
Whore - cathedral
Skeptical man - clinic (but he'll go to the cathedral anyway)
Nun - clinic
suspicious beggar - definitely clinic

My current Bloodtinge level is 42, & yes only the two handed mode scales with bloodtinge, only transform it when you're in combat, don't walk around with it, it does insane damage & it's very fast.

The Evelyn is very strong, at +5 it kills the large snakes in the forbidden woods with two bone ashed shots.

40 is fine for 99% of the situations in PvE, but the defiled chalice needs more than 40, although I haven't tried it yet with my current build.

It's still very low for PvP, I invaded two people so far with 40 vit & won, but they weren't very skilled players, I'm gonna need more than 40 for the more competetive invasions, especially with the Chikage draining my health.

guns only doing damage with bone ash is pointless..

No.

Send the nun to the cathedral, just make sure you have her blood before beating Rom

The large snakes have high HP.

Without the bone ash my evelyn still does more damage than the one handed Chikage.

For example, without the bone ash it kills the
snake headed people
with 3-4 shots.

Vicar Amelia is kicking my booty. Can't seem to effectively evade it's attacks.

Try to dodge to her weaker side. One of her hands is holding onto something, that's the side to dodge to (her left). Get, and stay behind her and make sure to whack shit outa her when she goes into her healing animation.

She not particularly difficult but it takes a lot of hits to get her heath down and she can hit pretty hard.

Cool Didn't know that.
Does that stop her turning psycho and murdering people?

She murders Annalise because she gets jealous of you taking her blood, which can be remedied by taking the nun's blood before fighting Rom.

Thanks - i have sent the daughter of father g. to the clinic because i've read that i get 1 insight per npc sent. Will more insight make the game harder? I am thinking of spending my 20 insight for items.

Nah I did with 41, just equip some VIT runes. You aren't going to get away from being two-shotted by bosses with a couple of VIT points more.

I stopped at 120 myself, mainly because I wasn't sure I could beat the latter Chalices at 100. I should be still in range for PvP against fellow level 100 players.

Hmm I personally dont think so. Having more insight allows some enemies to have new attacks thats pretty much it. I dont think bosses are harder with higher insight or easier with low insight. Having higher insight does allow you to see and hear different things compare to lower insight.

my vote is a little higher so that you can still do chalice dungeons half assed...shtuf is getttting tough there right now at 85...(im about to start the defiled as soon as i get the materials.)

It takes a while to learn the attacks...here is my strat using Blade of Mercy. weak point spoilers: the arms are also injurable and he does a heal animation that subdues him for a good time period. In this vid I just used the time to heal and regather my faculties.
breaking pvp because of the chalice dungeons isn't the right solution.

So basically the game is harder (because of new movesets). But the benefits of more insight are more storyrelevant?

I've never noticed an increase in difficulty TBH (I've been as high as 70 insight). It's a bit of a bone of contention at the minute. Some players claim it makes more enemies spawn and that they gain extra moves/buffs others deny it does.

This video clearly shows an enemy's weapon (the lamp) and his move-set change by just dropping under 15 insight. To be safe I'd say under 15 is the cut off point.

Although getting your insight to 40 reveals some pretty cool stuff you wont have been able to see before (it's not essential though)

So I just killed rom which has revealed Yarhnam in an even worser nightmare state. My question is was this town actually like this before I even got here or did killing rom set this in motion.

haha I guess if you out it that way :P Yeah there are some story relevant things that can be heard and seem. But IMO it just reinforces other information that has been given already. but for gameplay wise, its noting really that much harder...Here is a link to show you what I mean by new attacks

edit:
I saved this fight, beacuse I freaking loved this bossfight so much.

Late chalice boss
Headless Bloodletting Beast
https://youtu.be/yAiKotpV3yA

The
Headless Bloodletting Beast freaked me out at first when that worm thing suddenly came out of its "head"

I just finished vicar boss. How many more hours of gameplay am I looking at? I need to finish the game this week before I fly off

Vicar Amelia is kicking my booty. Can't seem to effectively evade it's attacks.

I had the same problem, I am a low vit char so most hits are KO or almost KO. The easiest way to kill her for me was to stay far from her. So you limit her attacks to 2 types:

-The one she rises her hands and makes a anergy attack at you: when she begins to charge, become closer and dodge to a side, then you can charge to her head for a few seconds, enough to stun her most of the time and hit her 5-6 times.

-The one she jumps at you: evade to her left so you can atack her medallion arm, that way you can attemp to stun her again.

After any of this attacks run and stay away of her, rinse and repeat until she is dead.

must....finish....game....today!

Farming blood echoes to get all the gear I need as well as potions, mats...etc before starting NG+

Anything you have in your storage carries over to the new game, right?

It's probably a leech, given leeches are used in bloodletting.

I picked up Bloodborne a couple of weeks ago and only really have the chance to play it at weekends, so I haven't progressed very far yet.

Nonetheless, I absolutely love this game. I played Demons Souls on release and loved it, have somehow missed both DS 1 and 2 (which I will soon rectify) and am really enjoying ploughing through Yarnham.

I think I've gone a bit all over the place, as I've killed Father Gascoigne (with help from an online summon, he kept kicking my arse :-(), but I've missed the Cleric Beast and am not too sure where to find it honestly. I want to leave no stone unturned in this game, no matter how long it takes! I've just reached Old Yarnham and stopped for now.

Incidentally, I remember seeing, in a trailer for the game months ago, a giant spider crawling down a building that looked like it would be a boss... Was the spider cut from the final game? Or is it in there somewhere?

After the first zone of Yarnham, after you killed all the guys around the bonfire...the next zone has an ogre and some crows, then you up stairs fight some guys and 2 doggys, then you up some long stairs and you are in a bridge, to your right there are 2 werewolves, you must kill them and an ogre, at the end of the bridge after an arc, its Cleric Beast.

Everything except Key Items, don't think you can put those to storage so yes.

Was already like that. You could see it in its true nature if you had more than 40 insight.

Sorry if this has been answered multiple times, but stuck on the true ending
Is there a reason why I seem to trigger the phase of the fight where he uses that move that takes you down to 1 HP, but doesn't allow you to heal? I thought it was when I got him to around 1/3rd of his health, but just had it happen when he was at 2/3rds. Shit is annoying.

He uses that often. Use regain to recover your health. Stay on the offensive for the duration of the fight but keep your stamina up.

God dammit, I did what I really, really didn't want to do and killed
Djura, after becoming his friend. I want the damn Ashen Hunter Cap. I really sympathize with him from a lore perspective, and the dialog when you kill him is heartbreaking to me. Need to start NG+ so he's back alive in my game :lol

I made several attempts at
Martyr Logarius
last night. I know I'll get that fight down eventually but holy shit it is obnoxious. It put me in such a sour mood that I took my frustrations out on Central Yharnam.

Anyone else find that kind of relaxing?

40 is enough if you have runes that boot your health. Atleast I managed with that amount. There were stuff that killed me in one hit but most of the time I survived the attacks. Also even with 50 vitality you still die pretty fast.

Thanks. Yeah, I managed to beat him on my 6th try or so. Definitely one of the easier fights once I realized I had to play pretty aggressive.

I wish this game had respec. I love trying different builds and weapons. I am about to do a fifth playthrough for a pure 50 bloodtinge build. I love maxing builds at the lowest lvl possible while still being able to co-op in NG. My first build was all over the place, skill then switch to strength. Second, was pure 50 Strength. Third is 25 skill / 25 bloodtinge. Fourth build is 25 skill / 25 arcane, burial blade. And, Bloodborne is probably my least favorite Souls.

The Forbidden Woods seems huge, I got to the building past the
canon
thinking the boss would be in there lol.

I liked the Hemwick boss, maybe the funnest yet.

I finally tried falling down the hole behind the pig and it's death. I figured it would be but I had to try it.

Boy was I ever surprised, when I was doing some backtracking in
Yarnam, to see Gascoigne show up again.

so i joined the vileblood and i was wondering if there's an arena like the one in ds2, or even a unofficial one where players meet to do pvp

I finally tried falling down the hole behind the pig and it's death. I figured it would be but I had to try it.

First time I saw that drop I figured it'd be a small drop and a secret area and I ran straight to my death. Felt real dumb afterwards, especially since I've played Souls games for long enough to know better.
