Destiny House of Wolves will Have no New Raid

I know this wasn't released to the public, but who were Bungie lying to when they showed this slide:

Gutted I bought the full pack now. Not so much because of the raid thing....more because I'm just kinda done with the game now after 150 hrs.

Plus, you know....Witcher 3

...plans change?

Seriously, I get while people are pissed about no raid (especially when you consider the value proposition), but if raid isn't ready or is subpar, don't bother releasing it at all. Simple as that.

Well, at least the true Destiny players will remain after House of Wolves, and I am totally fine with that. I absolutely the game. I love the music, I love the atmosphere, I love the world of Destiny.

It sounds like a lot of people want to take their pitchforks to Bungie, but honesty, really? This is a MMOFPS. The first mainstream title in this genre. They are working with a brand new genre. The raids did not go as planned in the prior expansion and core game. So, they want to deliver content the right way.

So, they will work on making the best raid possible later this year, and deliver a new mode with HoW. They could have easily skipped on the new mode with HoW. But, they didn't.

Give Bungie a break. There are so many other games to play in the meanwhile, so put your pitchforks down - and besides, were you even still playing Destiny right now?

About the argument of spending money on an expansion.. how many times have you spent $60 on a whole game and was let down? It was just $35 ;)

Give this expansion a chance!
Is this a parody post that's gone straight over my head?

Really disappointed. Raids were always great fun, and my worry is that without them it will get boring really fast. Let's hope the other content is good!

On a side note, how stupid does the Trials Of Osiris armour look? Why the hell would it be ancient Egyptian themed but in the future? That's such a stupid idea and doesn't fit with the look of the game at all. Can't wait for the cowboy and samurai armour sets at this rate.

Wow aren't you the stick in the mud...armor looks awesome

And cowboy themed armor?? I would be there with bells on

Sorry that expecting some vague consistency in the world they've created makes me a stick in the mud...

Nope, that's my honest opinion.

No true Scotsman yada yada...

Really though, what have Bungie done to deserve this unfounded respect and faith? They've messed up a lot with providing long term support for Destiny, for example the vault space update today is pathetic.

"I'm done with this stupid game! I've spent the last seven months at home playing it. My job stopped calling me to come in. My spouse left me. The cat won't even sit with me. BUT I'M DONE, BUNGIE!"

That people are complaining being done with this "shitty game" after putting in hundreds of hours.

FFS.

Wherever I said Destiny was/is a shitty game? My only complaint was that there's no raid in this DLC, which I said I was glad I didn't buy. The sole reason I spend hundreds of hours on this game was the raids, which were hellafun playing them with my fireteam. Not the repetitive strikes or half-assed story missions.

I was ready to go back to the game with this DLC, cause obviously I thought there would be a raid, but now that there isn't one incoming in the near future, I'm done with this game. Where is the irony in that?

I stopped playing Destiny about a month ago and decided i'll just wait for HoW. But with no new raid and me not being a PvP kind of guy this is a huge disappointment... But i'll have The Witcher 3, so fuck it.

The new end game activity, whatever it will be, is PvE though.

The game has been out for 7 months. I give them respect for trying something new.

Nope, that's my honest opinion.

Oh. Admittedly I haven't bought the season pass and only recently got Destiny on the cheap, but I wouldn't be patting a multi-billion company like Activision/Bungie on the back saying "AT LEAST YOU TRIED" after they'd already gotten ~£50 out of me for the main game, plus £35 for the expansion pass.

Honestly my feelings are mixed as I love the raids. This game has really, really, really needed a horde/firefight mode and honestly with the cost and time this kind of game takes to make, we were not going to get both in one dlc.

Compare a game like destiny to borderlands. Similar game styles but very different design characteristics. While in destiny you can tell they took time to put heavy art work into every square inch of land, borderlands has the look of almost procedural generation between areas. Its easier and cheaper to make large areas with that kind of design philosophy.

There are some players who almost exclusively play raid that are really going to feel this...really wish that there was another six player mode coming, as that seems to be the big missing piece more than just a raid.

Time for me to go get fatebringer

What does that even mean? You don't mind if they provide lacklustre support for the game as long as they do something new every 7 months?

Kinda hard to be angry about a mode they haven't released yet. Maybe it'll be better than the raid. Who knows. I'd by lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by the lack of a raid, but I'm certainly eager to see what IS delivered. It'll likely be something surprisingly fun.

Considering the raids are the only way for me, my wife, and my best friend and his wife can play end game pve together, this is incredibly disappointing.

I'm pretty shocked by this. Been staving off the urge to pay to wait for HoW but now I'm almost completely disinterested in the game altogether. I have to wait months again to play a new raid.

I just... wow.

Oh I'm not bothered at all about losing the Raid, I've already commented saying how I don't like the Raids and would try anything new. I'm asking him why Bungie deserve such faith and respect when the game so far hasn't really delivered and support has been extremely slow and disappointing.

I'm still on the fence about this.

The core gameplay in Destiny is fantastic. It's why I played 3 characters up to level 32 and have full Crota's End gear for all of them. It's why I've got at least one fully leveled exotic weapon per character, usually 2. It's why I've spent a ton of time grinding out Iron Banner, just so my character doesn't look like a fool in gear I don't like.

But the raids are the anchor content. Announcing that there's no raid is a huge first step. In an ideal world, we'd know all about the Prison of the Elders right now. By announcing no raid, and then giving us very little info on its replacement, they're making everyone mad at them, again. This is really the most important part about the DLC.

Yeah, I definitely want an upgraded Fatebringer. And the Trials of Osiris Gear looks sick. But that's just more of the same, grinding for marginally better gear. There's a reason I haven't played in 3 weeks.

I'm still on the fence. These gameplay reveals really need to sell me, or I might wait for reviews. And if reviews don't sell me... then I'm done.

Yup. All those weeks of imagining what the new raid would be like etc and now we get a horde mode. Seems like such a cop out.

No raid blows but it's hilarious how a game you put hundreds of hours in sucks. Haven't had a game with that kinda longevity in a while.
It's not that strange, actually. Some people are/were addicted to Destiny because of the compulsion loop the game so cleverly exploits, not because playing the same 10 missions over and over is that fun to them. That's why some people end up hating the game, even after having played it for months.

For example, most of the members of the clan I used to run VoG with don't play anymore, but they played Destiny for hundreds of hours and yet, when I talk to them, many say they don't ever want to come back.

So yeah, it's perfectly possible to play a game for hundreds of hours and still dislike it.

A more accessible arena gametype with a bit of variety is something Destiny desperately needed.

The problem is all the players who wanted it will have bailed in the last seven months of being ignored and occasionally derided. Only the people who love raids are left, and so are gonna be annoyed there's no new raid.

Then maybe it's time to move on, and invest in another game ;)

Yall need willpower.

I went through some unfun grinds but it was in order to level shit up for the fun activities.

I put in a lot of time in the game but put it away because I got all the loot I needed to max level. I was waiting on the next big thing (or would run a raid with friends for shits n gigs)

Prison Of Elders has potential so I might pull the trigger on HoW (i never bought season pass) And Osiris might be fun also. And that's coming from someone who thinks Destiny PvP is the worst part of the game.

Honestly their reasoning most likely is the raid wasn't gonna be done in time (remember how Crota seemed like a rushed raid?) AND despite GAF's "hardcore" bubble the majority of players have a hard time getting 6 players together with mic'd and runnin a raid.

And a firefight esque mode seems like a no brainier for Destiny.

That's still not ironic.

The game is incredibly flawed, but it also has a lot of potential and the core gameplay is very addictive. The promise of improvements strung many along until they finally had enough.

Yes, the new content could be good, but Bungie now have a very defined track record for disappointment with this game. The reactiosn are justified, imo.

I continue to wonder what all those hundreds of staff members are working on. Years to develop a game with no content. Months to develop DLC with no content. Where has the time, effort and money gone because its nowhere to be seen in this game.

I think the biggest blunder in all this is the PR aspect.

Whoever is in charge of announcments/pr at Bungie is either an idiot or one of those that subscribes to the belief that bad pr is still good pr because its pr.

Instead of saying "No raid... but we promise there's this other cool thing we will show... in 4 fucking weeks."

They should have started with.... "So there's no raid, don't worry more raids are in the works for later... but we also have this really cool 3 person coop mode and here is some gameplay and here is more info about it"

That might have soothed things over if this new mode really is cool. Instead we got people sharding Praxic fires out of anger.

I think that Prison of Elders is clearly a series of Bosses. After all it's a Prison. It's where the Archob Priest came from. The picture looks like a bigger servitor. Probably a mix of repeat bosses, and also hopefully some new bosses.

It really looks like Bungie planned to include a six player raid and then their plans changed. I think this because of all the massive amount of datamined info that was pointing towards a new six player raid. Probably HoW was released in May instead of March because of these plans changing. Again data mining showed a release date in March before it changed it May. I expect PoE to feel rushed.

Why did their plans change? IDK. Maybe the planned raid sucked. Maybe they internally saw CE raid and all its cheese as a huge flop. Maybe they are trying to reach a larger audience with a less hardcore PvE activity. Maybe they wanted the ultimate endgame PvE activity to have MM and it was hard to do that successfully and have it be fun with their current six player designs. Maybe they needed more content for Comet in the fall. Maybe they'll try to sell is an additional raid over the summer for more money.

A boss rush mode could work well with Destiny if implemented well. History dictates it will be a glitchy mess, here's hoping to otherwise.

I simply feel robbed. The only meaningful content from both the main game and The Dark Below DLC have been the Raids. They were the only part of the game that we have kept playing consistently on a weekly basis (until Bloodborne was released and we completely stopped playing), and now they are withholding it from this DLC since our money has already been taken. So at the end of the day they are giving us 3 new story missions and 1 new strike for 20 dollars. If that is not theft, then I don’t know what it is.

It doesn’t really matter how pissed we get since they have already collected our money, while at the same time they make their new Comet DLC even more attractive by adding one new additional Raid from the probable 1 or 2 they had originally planned, so that way they could try to justify the probable high price of $30 or $40 of the new expansion, since it would have “substantially” more content. This was both the first and the last time I ever spend money on a Season Pass for a Bungie title and for an Activision published game.

Destiny would be a ton better if there was more strikes, or strikes with random start and end points to make things interesting when playing them again and again.

Oh and rewarding a clear with engrams for non DLC owners again, right now strikes without dlc nets you nothing.

The fact that you'll have to pay for the new raid later this year even though you bought the expansion pass?

100% Activision. That's straight out of their playbook.

The fact that Destiny is still in its grindfest state and doesn't appear to be changing?

100% Bungie...for signing a contract with Activision.

Everything, from the grindy design to the strategic timing of releases you should have already received from a pre-purchase, is designed to keep you playing and paying.

Think what this game could have been if Activision bigwigs hadn't thrown their weight around. Just think about that for a moment. Think about those glimpses we saw pre-release of a game that would have a decent story and be worth your time.

Think about it. And weep.

Hi MADGAME! I expect it to be fun though. I hope they have some good ideas about making it more replayable somehow.

So much negativity. How about we at least give Bungie the benefit of the doubt that they have something cool planned here? There are issues with the game that are frusterating, and Bungie has been slow at reacting to things, and they suck at addressing their base, but for all of those issues the game is fun. Lets stop jerking our knees and let them actually announce their plans first.

Don't get me wrong, I think that not having a new raid in a paid expansion is total inept bullshit and I'm pissed...but there are just some posts that I can't help but laugh at a little.

How dare you. Clearly the answer here is to lawyer up. There is no other solution.

If prison of the elders was free content I would be pretty excited to come back to try it, but I am not going to pay fucking $20 for it.

Hm. Figured there'd be a raid, but whatever. If the new stuff proves as fun without the frustration/glitches, then I'm sure I'll sink mountains of time into it. For a few weeks, anyway.

But I think I'll hold off on pre-buying something for Destiny from here on out.

Simply Bullshit

The way the deal with Activision is setup they have some control over the timelines for content, but they do not have that kind of control

This is bungie's game and therefore their mistakes..this is a stupid copout that you are giving to a large and experience game maker

Now stupid exclusive dlc? That is all Activision

Well I was an idiot and preordered the season pass because I was really into the game. Then the day after that I got pushed into WoW by my friends and never launched it again.

It may seem odd but a simple Firefight mode is much more likely to get me playing again than some raid I need to gear up for and learn. I have enough of that doing Mythic shit in WoW. I mean, repetitive wave-based survival is kind of not something Destiny needs AT ALL but they might do it well.

Given how buggy the current two raids are, I'm not sure this is such a bad thing. Beating Crota on hard is such a chore, not because it's that difficult once you have a good strategy, but because you're basically playing roulette with the bugs.

If done well, maybe a co-op arena will be a less frustrating way to get our rare gear.

Ah, hell. Who am I kidding? It'll be broken, too...

We shouldn't accommodate their ineptitude to make a non-buggy raid, which they were selling .
