Atlus USA bringing Dungeon Travelers 2 to North America this summer

This is awesome. I know the game is fanservice-heavy, but Parakeetman keeps lauding it as one of the best DRPGs he has played.

With this news and the Nobunaga's Ambition leak from Best Buy, today has been great for localization news.

Demon Gaze is the best one available right now, but it comes with a bit of fanservice. Nowhere near as much as people claim, but it's still there. Operation Abyss is coming out in two months and has a negligible amount of fanservice, if you can wait.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I'm done with Persona 4. To be clear, I don't really have a problem with fan service, I just worry that it makes bad or mediocre games more palatable to people.

I remember Parakeetman saying a lot of positive things about this game. Another Vita Dungeon Crawler I'm getting Day 1.
Fan-service or not I've loving the dungeon crawler localizations and it really brightened up my day seeing the news.

Oh, if it's not a problem for you, I think you'll enjoy Demon Gaze, it's definitely not present to make the game more palatable.

Dungeon Traveler series has only been on handhelds pretty much so a cleaned up eroge is out of the question.

No, it was never an eroge.

Yeah the quote below set me straight. Not sure why I thought it was that.

You might be thinking of that Alicesoft game that got released on 3DS by Imageepoch - Toshin Toshi 2.

Anyway, how heavy on the fan service is it? I can probably manage but would like to know if anyone has any handson experience.

Looks like something NISA would localise, tbh. I'd expect they're going to serve EU duty, so *shrug*

[Edit] And already confirmed. Dammit, I should refresh before I post.

Moero Chronicle gets a western release......i highly doubt it

That's what they said about Monster Monpiece, and look what happened.

This is why my Vita is my most played system in the last year or so. So many japanese games with cool gameplay mechanics or deep customization.

This is great news.

It actually is a shock, because Atlus USA has mostly avoided this stuff (barring the crap that's snuck into actual Atlus games) up until recently.

Not entirely - Conception 2 & Code of Princess are two fairly recent examples. And of course, there's Dragon's Crown although that was Atlus published to begin with.

Code of Princess is pretty tame aside from the main character's outfit

Conception 2 is mostly just sexual innuendo in the script. You can touch the girls breasts later on but they get really mad at you, I dont think you're supposed to

This is amazing. Never thought Atlus would localize this.

EDIT: I also wonder if they will localize the first one since it is getting a Vita upgraded port.

Man, that's a lot of fanservice, even for me...but the impressions are positive, so I'll follow. Can't go wrong with more quality DRPGs.

Would've liked dual audio, but Japanese-only is fine I suppose.

Yeah, it's amusing how tame the fanservice is in Baby Making: The RPG.

How's the game anyway? There seem to be a lot of DRPGs on Vita but I see them as decent at best. Forgive me on this, but I didn't like Demon Gaze... :(

Platinum'd the game last year and still had a big chunk of post game content that I couldn't finish. Definitely the best DRPG available on Vita imo (haven't played stranger yet though). The game is immense and has easily 80-100 hours of content but unfortunately it'll take you 150 hours to access it all (more on that later).

There's definitely a huge focus on fan service - each time you defeat a boss/miniboss you essentially get a soft core hentai CG. They do get tongue in cheek with it eventually though. Game has a lot more personality and story/character focus than most DRPGs since you have fixed party members. The gameplay systems are also really well designed and fun to play and the game can get fairly difficult/challenging.

My only gripe with the game is that about half the post game content is unlocked behind mandatory grind gates (the way it's implemented forces you to grind no matter how strategic or skilled you are). I think I spent a total of around 18 hours of literally just walking back and forth in a corridor fighting random encounters on close to auto. Probably had another 10 hours of that to go if wanted to access the final chunk of content that I didn't finish. Other than that though this should be a must-buy for any DRPG fan.

Do the already released versions have (meaningful) DLC? That could influence my decision to import or wait.
Most of the DLC is just add on characters from the first game that have no story presence and are skippable. The most important DLC is actually an exp accessory that doubles exp gained and is almost mandatory if you want to access all end-game content without spending 200 hours. Unfortunately the only way to get it (in Japan at least) was to buy the big DLC pack that included all of the character DLC as well though.

Not the kind of game you would expect Atlus to localise, sad.

If this is some sort of high water mark versus what else they've been publishing on the Vita, then I honestly don't want to know what else they've slapped their name in front of.

This seems to have really rustled your jimmies.

Are you not a fan of the service in this game or do you have some kind of gameplay knowledge of it that contradicts all the import impressions I've read about it?

Not sure what the game is but I'll be buying is just to support Atlus's niche releases. Wish it wasn't sub only like Tears to Tiara but oh well. Announce a LE Atlus!

I think the massive amount of voice acting in games like TtT 2 and this make recording a dub too costly. I don't really care since I much prefer Japanese voice acting, but I know it must suck for people who like dubs since I've been in their shoes when games are dub only.

I don't like it: it's too fanservicey (?) for me and, as a future DRPG player, I'd rather get into the genre with better titles (as art design is concerned) like Experience ones. It's a No Buy for me, I will take Lost Dimension instead.

Sounds like the wait for EU release might be worth it, but the hype here is off the charts so I don't know. Thanks for the reply

I imported this last year. I didn't finish it because I got distracted by other games but as far as I saw, the fanservice is all in the form of CG images you see after beating each boss (example NSFW), and sometimes in the story sections. It's still obviously a focus of the game, but it's far less prominent than something like Moero Chronicle. There's no rubbing minigame of any kind, it's just the static images. The game itself is really good but has a higher starting difficulty than other recent DRPGs I've played.

1. I don't know how far you're going to get into the genre if you're valuing art design above gameplay.

2. Demon Gaze is an Experience title that is already out, and Operation Abyss is another Experience title that will be out in June.

I like what I see :D

You're actually right, gameplay is important, but in my case visual quality (I'm not necessarly talking about graphics) plays an important role along with gameplay, so if one of these two elements is lacking, a title can lose my interest. As regards Demon Gaze, that's just the title I want to experience the DRPG genre, but at the moment I have so many other games in my Vita backlog that if I bought it now, i wouldn't have time to play it.

If that's it then I'll manage. Not anti fanservice just gotten fed up.

Elminage, Elminage, Elminage!

Just checked the OT as well. Looks good http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=901532&page=1

YASSS. So unexpected but so great. EU release too. Gotta get this to show my support.

How does this relate to To Heart 2 Dungeon Travelers btw? Is one a spinoff from the other?

This is... surprising. But not unexpected as Atlus and Aquaplus are very close these days for whatever reason.

Maybe they'll bring remake of first game if we buy this enough.

Unrelated other than that you can buy ToHeart 2 characters from the first game as DLC to throw into your party. DT2 is its own original universe/characters/story.
