I played/beat every soul games but this is the most annoying boss in the entire series

I feel your pain, it gave me a lot of trouble as well.
First phase just play it ultra safe, stay in front, bait his attacks only chipping away at his right arm (your left) , you want to wait for the slam with blue lights where he can't move for a few seconds. Go to town on his head, rinse and repeat (this may take time, but you will hardly get hit. When he reaches stage 2 (arms ripp off) go beind him, focus on one leg, strike, wait for the foot stomp, strike again. When he jumps, roll around like a madman.
Good luck.

Platinum get !

On the one hand I'm very pleased with the way the game turned out: it looks and plays amazingly, exceptional art and athmosphere, great boss fights and only one area that sucks balls
( Nightmare Frontier )
.
Started the DS II remaster now on PS4 and it's hard going back to the slower gameplay and even with the graphics upgrade it just doesn't compare to BB's good looks.

On the other hand I feel I'm done with this game much sooner than I was with Souls..It just feels a bit 'limited' if that's the correct word. In Souls you could head to so many directions and diferent areas at the start of the game and try out vastly diferent builds or try out new things that it never got old even after 10 playthroughs. BB feels a lot more linear and restricted in that department..

I'll let it cool down a bit and let it sink in. Probably doesn' t help I didn't do anything else these past two weeks but play BB.

Started Byrgenwerth with 21 insight, next time I looked up, it said 8. Thought I was losing my mind until I read up on that thing sucking your insight. WTF....

A question about PVP: Am I an asshole for parrying someone who was trying to make blood bullets after we bowed or was he/she at fault for not doing it earlier, and once the battle starts, anything goes?

I FINALLY killed
Rom
last night. After a weekend of raging out over him, I walked in and killed him on my first try last night.

I tried a different strategy with him that worked better for me.

I actually took out every single spider while simply keeping an eye on Rom and making sure he wasn't going to rain icy hell on me. Once I dispatched all of the spiders in all three phases, it made wailing on Rom much easier.

Thank god I can move on!

My opinion is that the fight is on after the exchange of bows.

Interesting. Seems to be the strategy that others were recommending me a couple of pages back, so I'll try this later too. Take out the spiders and then go for Rom, the big fat git.

Lol, thats awesome.

I've decided to sack off Rom and Paarl for a bit. Just realised there is another way
in the Forbidden Woods through the caves
which will start me off on the things I need to do to get to
Cainhurst Castle
, so I'll do that instead.

Ok seriously, how are you supposed to beat the
three hunters in Yahargul
?

I actually managed to kill all three of them in one life, on my first proper try. (First time I encountered them I ran away back to the Lantern, was so underprepared. Like 4 blood vials.)

Basically, use the staircase to your massive advantage. Get a couple of long-range hits in on one, then retreat down or up the stairs, heal, and prepare a charged R2 attack at the top/bottom of a staircase where they would have to turn to begin striking you. Repeat this every time you get a hit in. Like, hit them at the top of the stairs railing, then roll away and run down the other stairs, heal, hit them again, run away. Always be ready to roll a few times and get some distance. Using the stairs like this ensures you properly only encounter one at a time.

It was satisfying as fuck doing all three in one try. I was fully muttering threats at the last one when I had him alone and cornered, parrying his every move.

Yes, and remember that the
spiders have weak backsides.
Roll past them then do the quick R1 follow-up swipe to kill them almost in one go.

You're never an asshole in PVP unless you do that in a mutual duel. In BB the only way to fight is to invade or be invaded - anything goes.

ok, i have a question. im realtively to the end of my first playthrough.
im at the NoN and have done everything else i could do up to this point.
so its really only NoN Area, MWN and Final Boss.
Now i want to be leveled up to do CDs. Would it be wiser to grind levels before or after i beat the campaign? Will i level up quicker in NG End Game or NG+ beginning?

noone?

So close to getting the platinum trophy for this game, but this defiled chalice dungeon is killing my will to play.

Getting 1 hit KOed at 37 VIT is not fun.

NG+ (I'm up to Forbidden Woods boss) is kicking my arse and so are these later Chalice dungeons, The boss on Loran chalice layer 3 is just ridiculously hard for me to deal with :(

Probably doesn't help that I missed the item needed for +10 weapon upgrades on my first run through even though I found most of the optional content with zero guide/forum use, and now I'll have to basically beat the whole game again but harder to get it.

My stats are Really not optimal either at around level 125 because I wanted to try out tons of weapons & items but have settled on Chikage/Evelyn after starting with loads of skill to use the Cane.

Not sure I'm asking for advice so much as having a whinge but if anyone does have tips let me know :P Maybe I should just push on with some other Chalices and hope to find good gems, or grind out a ton of levels since I'm probably past the optimal PVP level now anyway.

The more spiders are up, the more spammy Rom gets in his third phase. That's how it appears to me anyway.

Pretty sure at this point the intended way to fight him is to kill his pets first. I know people can get around this and just go all-in... but given this games glitchable boss AI I'd definitely go this way.

Is there a point of no return with the ending in this game? I pretty much am done, but want to start the chalice dungeons.

Chalice dungeons carry over to NG+ and don't scale at all (They are basically a separate game mode played with your Hunter), and there's no point of no return other than killing the last boss and it's obvious which boss that is.

Oh okay I thought they would scale up. Alright then I won't worry about it.

1on1 them
! Start from lamp and kill the bell maiden, the two dogs, brick guy and the few "normal" enemies roaming the area to the three hunters. Then either sneak all the way to the first hunter in the middle and do a visceral to reduce his hp and then run back to the lamp room. 1 hunter is going to stay with you but the others retreat back to their starting point after a while.
If you die fighting the hunter who stayed on your tail in the room with the lamp, you are able to get you echoes back easy. That's how i did it. Can't remember pretty well but i think the one hunter in the middle of the room was the best of them. Used a mix of 2 hand Ludwig with L2 attack to stagger them and one hand ludwig and shotty to parry their attacks.

Yeah. I went through NG+ at that point to get more VIT. By 45 odd it was better, I'd still get one shotted if I misstimed a dodge on a very damaging attack (like the
watchdog's
charge) but that's better than being one shot regardless.

Okay, so in an effort to make sure I don't miss any content (and because I fucking hate
spiders
), I've been clearing as much content as possible before heading to B
yrgenwerth
.

So far I've:

1.)
Encountered every civilian and sent them to places.
2.)
Cleared Hemwick and killed the Witches.
3.)
Cleared Nightmare Frontier and killed Amadylgia.
4.)
Cleared Cainhurst Castle, but still need to defeat Martyr Logarius as he's a bastard.
5.)
Cleared Depth 1 & 2 of the Phtumeran Chalice.

Aside from the Chalice Dungeons, is there anything else to add to the checklist or am I now done and have to go face my fear?

Have you visited
Hypogean Gaol
yet?

So I just "beat"
SoY
last night. Made the mistake of summoning someone thinking that it would be a really difficult fight, and that made it incredibly easy. I don't think either of us got hit the entire time, so it all became very anticlimactic.

Anyway, a couple of questions now.

Progression wise
I know Byrgenwerth is the next story area, but are there any optional areas that I should do first? So far I've killed CB, FG, BSB, VA, WoH, DbP, and SoY. I have a tonsil stone that I haven't used yet, not sure what to do with that.

Also, NPC wise,
is it OK to send the forbidden woods NPC to the clinic now? And should I kill the nun that I sent to the church if I took blood from Arianna once? Assuming I want the good ending of course

Thanks!

Finally beat the
Nightmare of Mensis
zone. Holy shit was I frustrated with that place, I hate it...
Now I'm going through the
Upper Cathedral and I got to the 3 werewolves and died
. I was still pissed from the last bit so I decided to just stop for the night. And holy hell...
I need to find more of the cords, I only have 2 and I'm basically at the end game
:/

It's not working for me. He has long arms. He can kill me with one hit even when I am behind him

Stay at a safe distance, but get close to draw his attacls and leave before he does, try to dodge always at your right and don't lock on him. You need him to make a stomp attack with his arms, when you learn the pattern you can get close fast to his head and hit him once or twice. Repeat this whole process until he rip two of his armas and use them as weapons (this will happen around 30-35% of his life). When that happens, you need to run fast below his body and behind his head, you'll be completly safe there, hit the head all the time and stay put if he jumps, when he lands go again below his body.

It's easy once you now what to do. ;)

I absolutely loved
Nightmare of Mensis
. The level design was superb and it felt really cool working your way
from the bottom to the top of the area.
Really fun enemy encounters as well for the most part. Incredible note to end things on and a much stronger final area than in any previous Souls games.

you can send everyone to the church if you want, you just have to make sure the whore lives. the best way to do that, i guess, is to send the nun and the FW NPC to the clinic. i've read on here also that if you use arianna's blood and then take the nun's blood later, she won't hurt arianna. also, read the description of the tonsil stone for a clue on how to sue it, i'd say that's probably the next thing you could do before byrgenwerth

The chalice dungeons were by far the worst part for me in getting the platinum. I purposefully overleveled to make the defiled sections more manageable and ended up easily steamrolling through it all. #noregrets

I believe you have done everything available to you except using the tonsil stone.
You have to head down to the right of the grand cathedral (if you are facing the entrance) and you will find a big circular room with a locked door. Stand in front of it to get picked up and almost killed. that will take you to the lecture hall.

there is 1 more boss you can do before byrgenworth that way. You can always just do that later though and do byrgenworth now

grats, welcome to the club

One thing I've never liked in these series is allowing invaders to heal. I've been helping people now at unseen village and the same invaders run to the point cthulu fires his fucking hyper beam and just wait surrounded by enemies. And when you do whoop them they run to more enemies and heal. So dull.

I was hoping they'd remove invaders ability to heal in this game but nope. They can just invade your game, run away, and heal. But most of the time I only see invaders when playing with my friend. When I'm alone, I usually play offline if I'm in a
Nightmare
zone. Usually what my bro and I do is when we see an invader do this we just hold our ground. They usually eventually come out and fight

At least pvp seems a bit better than Dark Souls in some ways. Such as, lagstabs (aka backstabs) are not here. I used to be wraith in Dark Souls so I saw a lot of that. Maybe even done a little bit lagstabbing myself

That is exactly what I did.

depends on where you've gotten your 2 cords, but there may be 1 or 2 still available. i assume you got one from the wet nurse. there's 2 missable cords and 1 that can be found at any time during the game
.

You didn't do CD at all? The first will be piss easy, no need to level up for those, depth 1-3 can be done in the 30-70 range i guess.
NG+ gives a shitton of souls. Might as well start that.

i did the first 2 and im on layer 3 on depth 3 pthumeru. But i can see how later CDs will kick my ass big time so i want to come prepared.
and hence i ask where i can level up better, get more Bloodechoes and so on. in NG end game or in NG+ beginning.

Thanx
How do I progress on that specific tombstone? Do I remove my Chalice and put a new one in or something else? Or just go to second tombstone?

you can remove it and make a new one. if you leave it there you can come back to it, but i doubt you'll have much of a need to come back to the earlier dungeons

think of each tombstone as chalice save slots

lol. Love these moments. Also these fucking crippled crows: throwaway enemies who managed it till the end to scare me (everything is silent and then these barking sounds pump through my speakers). They also place them at dark spots, where you don't see them.

Ha yeah, I hate those crows. kill em in one swipe but usually make me jump out my seat when wearing headphones. Im going to be a wreck when I get round to alien isolation. The
Ghost ladies
in that castle make me jump too when they scream. Im 30 ffs lol

Best game Ive played in a very long time.
