Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

That´s a bit of a bummer. I can´t believe they decided to go with automated pit stops. There´s so much sim stuff in this game i´m sure during the development a lot of people must have asked for manual pit stops... i wonder why they decided to leave it on auto, even with all assists off.
It will be patched in in the future, so they say. It seems it was big trouble making it work properly for release. Still, I agree, it's a bummer.

I guess the problems start when you start thinking about what can go wrong! Crashing into the AI, crashing into the crews and equipment, parking in the wrong spot etc etc etc. Its almost an entire simulator on its own!

Hang on a minute, when was Snetterton announced?!?!.

Driving / ridden round there so much, can't wait to see how it drives in Pcars!

It wasn't an easy decision for sure, but unfortunately manual pit stops had so many development downsides that it simply wasn't feasible to allocate enough resource to it. For example the animation very hard to do since you have make it procedural (the car not being in the exact right position) and that would need extra tools, you have to consider the fact that you can't have crew mowed down (ratings etc.), it means tons of extra logic when it comes to handling the pit stops, extra tutorial costs...basically I can't remember the whole list, but whilst I would've liked to see it even with some of the downsides it simply wasn't feasible to do yet.

Hi,

There is only about a month for the final launch of Project CARS (PC, PS4, Xbox One) and here a new comparison, compared with a real onboard from a BAC Mono at the Silverstone GP circuit. The graphic realism of Project CARS makes you wonder sometimes... which of the two onboard is real?

Regards.

The make the Project cars video needs to be more wash out and not so saturated and it might look more like reallife....as it is atm it looks to perfect for reallife

Has that date been confirmed?

^ nah, Namco seems to be wrong on this one..

If you're a WMD member check this > http://forum.wmdportal.com/showthre...oject-CARS-WMD&p=870542&viewfull=1#post870542

Even the publisher doesn't get the release date right now?

Christ almighty.

And if you're not a member - tough shit?

Fuck it, I'll quote it.

Bollocks to it then, if they want to be unprofessional I will be. The target dates are the 7th of May in Europe and the 12th in the US.

These are NOT 100% confirmed yet though, because the game isn't officially RTM (Gold) yet. It is very close (it has passed all the significant tests so this is largely a simple admin task to get it done), but the unexpected can always happen so the plan was not to say anything until we're sure (doubly important of course after the earlier delays).

Please don't post this outside of this forum until it is confirmed officially here, which should happen this afternoon all being well.

I guess that's how they all justify it. Still unrespectful.

Yep. Publisher (and SMS) both want to protect themselves from another missdate. You can't blame them.

Too many factors, production most notably and jumping on disc pressing and distribution. Too many small wheels have to align to make it work as planned.

Nice to know that one particular certification finally went through.

It will be a great spring for driving games.

Christ almighty.

SMS is developer. Relase date and EVERYTHING that happens regarding game once it goes gold is up to publisher (namco).

Developer as well (though not on CARS), and yeah, it was certainly an insightful look at how some people view NDA agreements.
Yeah (I'm not on CARS either) and things like these suck a lot because it means SMS can't trust the forums and that means that they are less likely to communicate everything, give more of an insight into the process etc. Not to mention it's generally a dick move when they specifically ask not to share it.

This is an interesting discussion, you would rather the publisher be allowed to mislead everyone?
Because that has nothing to do with the relationship the Team Members have been us and SMS. SMS deserver our respect and trust and when specifically ask us to hold on to some information for a very limited time it's more than reasonable that we hold on to our end. Not to mention that these leaks could have some very serious consequences for all of us; say in the case of licensing just a little leak could blow the whole deal and make us miss on content that has already been in development and paid for.

In a professional situation like that (working for a company, holding an active NDA with a company, etc.), if I thought there were a mistake, I would work with the company and publisher to correct it through normal business channels, honoring the legal agreement.

That's just my general opinion, CARS or not.

While I agree with you both that SMS have a right to expect non-disclosure, I think it's interesting that (judging by that leaked post) SMS are only willing to correct the mistake for people already in the know. If you are a potential customer then it appears you don't deserve the same level of respect.

Whilst not claiming that this issue is important enough to qualify, I'm seeing parallels here to whistleblowing etc. in journalism.

To be fair that wasn't the whole follow-up on the matter, but again leaking that does nothing more than hurt us all. It's bad for 3rd party relations, it's bad for a concise marketing push, it's bad for the trust between WMD and SMS, it's bad for the community aspect of the development. And for what? A post that was an hour before the official announcement, and for a good reason (it was not confirmed yet).

I can't see the date stamp of the post, was it not written after the official announcement (ie. that BN tweet)?

It was: (Today, 10:50 AM) vs. the official announcement thread: (Today, 11:37 AM)

But again, the point stands; leaking information is more likely to hurt everyone rather than help.

Gaf I have a question for you!

I am torn between PC and PS4 version of PCars.
My PC is not the newest one, An Intel I5 2500 - 8 GB Ram - GTX 670 2GB - In addition I have a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel so I would really love to play it with my computer. Judging by the recomended specs should I be ok or I should buy PS4 version? Will my pc offer equal framerate/effects/res with PS4 counterpart?

Perhaps, I don't think it's as clear cut in this case though where the 'leak' is effectively 'the truth'. Anyway, ignore me, I'm just bored at work, just glad that it's finally releasing even if I won't get to play it for many months yet!

I feel I should apologise here - I should never have asked for information that I couldn't access directly. I had no idea that it was under NDA at the time, I just thought it was general chat on the WMD fourum (not all of which is 'secret' of course).

I'm sure Spookie meant no harm in his response, but with hindsight perhaps insiders teasing and hinting at NDA information in the first place isn't the best thing to do on a message board - it'll inevitably lead to enquiries.

So anyway - apologies if I inadvertently caused a shit storm folks..!

It started very well, check the announcement.

I'm sure they treat the Wii U version with as much professionnalism as other skus but that won't prevent it from being by far the worst version of the game.

Even with the locked version your CPU is well above what the PS4's CPU is capable of and your GPU is at least on par with the PS4's if not at least slightly better and lesser GPUs have managed to give the PS4 version of games a run for their money if not actually perform better. Plus the game doesn't support your wheel on PS4 so there's that.

You'll probably do just fine on the PC.
Turn down the smoke effects

I don't know why you're apologising you've done nothing wrong.

Just down/off the grass and it will run great.

I have a low-midrange setup(2 gtx 470s in sli and 4760k cpu) and I'm getting 60-100fps with everything on ultra except for vegetation. Here's some gameplay screens with the fraps counter.
