Still runs like shit on my new gtx 970.
Guessing it's to do with the fact I have 4gb of ram. New ram incoming tomorrow so hopefully it's fine.
Are those shitty? That would explain so much :lol. I am a victim!HDD are not all same, he might be running WD Green for all we know, or his HDD haven't been de-fragmented in ages and is 4+ years old.
The game is CPU-bound, then if I OC my i5 2500k to 4.5~4.8Ghz I'll be able to get 50~60 FPS?
I have a HD7970 and 8GB of RAM
What are your MSAA and Advanced Graphic options like?
I found those to be the most taxing.
and yeah, It might be the RAM too.

Superfetch brings my HDD down to its knees.

CyanideFuse said:Edit: Got my event viewer now. At the same time as this driver crash I had this error in the "Windows Logs/Applications" part (GTA had crashed out):
Okay, I looked at my Event Viewer and there's nothing about a GPU driver crash, only one that is very similar to yours about the GTA5 executable.
What's your VRAM usage? Generally a drop to zero is because it goes over your VRAM (or in a 970's case, goes past 3.5).
Does your game run smoothly at the beginnning? I experience similar issues. Runs incredibly smooth for about 10 mins (driving around, anything) then I will start experiencing drops.
The game seems to use about 6.5GB of RAM for me most of the time, so 4 probably wouldn't cut it.
Since the benchmark doesn't produce a log (I think?), all I can say is that the average when playing is around 75 FPS. Only once during the benchmark did it drop to 55, otherwise high 60 to 80 is the average. I get 110 FPS when not much is happening, 120 indoors even.
Very, very playable in other words![]()
Yeah I'll test it tomorrow when my ram arrives.
Was there any entry in the "Windows Logs/System" at the same time as your GTA V crash entry from "Windows Logs/Applications" ?
It does have a log. Go into your document and find Rockstar Game or sth.
Turns out there is a "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." entry in there, but it took place about two minutes before GTA crashed :/
~3,300 according to Riva.
It happens as soon as I get in a car.
Perhaps GPU instability caused the GTA crash even though the driver itself had not yet crashed. What card do you have and what are the temperatures like on it?
What power management do you have in the nVidia control panel?
If you keep getting crashes it might be worth changing the settings in the nVidia control panel to Prefer maximum performance.
I know 900 series cards can drop power which causes crashes although I thought older less demanding games were more the cause.
I have a radeon hd 5770.Will GTAV at least run with this card?
I'm good with the other specs.
Changing mouse input method from raw to direct is sooo much better. The camera judders like fuck when you turn it on anything except direct input, atleast for me.
I think they are intended more as back up storage drives and not one that is under a lot of load/work. RPM is 5400(?) whereas a WD Blue is 7200.
Kind of a lame write up since the benchmark is hardly indicative of in game performance.
Weird, it says it's 7200 RPM when I ran tests on the thing. I'd never buy a 5400 for gaming. Welp, I must have made a huge mistake.
How much is only having 4GB of RAM likely to hold me back?
I have a 970 and i2500K @ 4.3GHz
For optimization yesIs that game ready driver nessesary?
Thank you for posting this. I played ~20 hours with that juddering camera, so much better now.

I'm thinking this should be in the OP then

I actually found that the windows mouse option was the best for me. I'll add this to the OP though![]()
Well as said above it takes about 6 so you're likely to have plenty of problems
Can't you afford 4 or 8 GB of RAM? It's pretty cheap these days
I tried windows, it made things way worse oddly enough. So yeah I guess it's different depending on your system.
What happens when you lower "Distance scaling" and at the same time raise "Extended distance scaling"?
U not gonna play on a high resolution with that one and with only 1GB VRAM u are probably stuck with normal textures. Yeah the game could run easy I think on a low resolution, but I doubt it's gonna look pretty. Getting at least 30fps is very doable though. Lots of settings to customize.I have a radeon hd 5770.Will GTAV at least run with this card?

For people still having issues with stuttering:
- If you are on 8GB or less, this might be the cause
- If your card has only 2GB, you are most likely hitting the limit without noticing. The estimate they give in the graphics settings is not exact, the game uses more memory.
Also using an SSD is highly recommended.
If you are experiencing crashes:
- Make sure your OC is 100% stable for GPU and CPU. This game will destroy your OC if it is not rock solid. I had two crashes before I reduced my CPU OC which I thought was 100% stable. Since many hours my game hasn't crashed now.
I have read conflicting specifications for the drive so I might be talking utter rubbish. I have just seen a lot of people advise to not use it as a gaming drive.
Edit: I read on a forum to Google wd green head parking
It might be worth reading some of the pages that come up.
Yeah I should probably get some.
I've just tended to leave my CPU/MB/RAM combo alone and upgrade around it.
I've got a Samsung 840 SSD too - will that help mitigate it with a fast page file or do I really need some more RAM?
edit:
Okay from other responses it looks like I'm buying more RAM.
Can someone recommend a good 8/16GB kit that will be compatible with my P8P67 Pro AND work in future platforms (if such a thing exists). Cheers!
"Parking" seems relevant, some processes seems to make the HDD make a complete stop. Like when I play something load intensive it can take 20 seconds, or 5 minutes. :lol I'll look it up!
Edit: Hm, looking it seems the Green drives are just shit if you want to do more intensive things like gaming. I'll get a WD Black next I guess![]()

Well after running with a really solid 60fps for quite awhile, I got to the Marriage counseling mission and was up on the hills with a really big view of the city and lots of grass, etc. My framerate tanked and was sitting around 45-55![]()
I turned off FXAA though I think I want to turn it back on even as ugly as it is.. better than no AA at 1080p. I turned down grass from very high to high. It made a small difference. I think I'll start tweaking down the advanced menu. Long shadows and bringing down the sliders.
I don't want to sacrifice too much visuals but I would always prefer a 60+ framerate than a little extra eye candy.
