This didn't help.
Seems that the pauses come and go at random. At one time they are common and make the game unplayable and other times they are rare. Changing settings or installing the game on different drives doesn't do anything at all. I just don't know where else to look. It's a shame because pauses aside the game runs super smooth and even the benchmark never goes below 60.
And i'm not going to buy an SSD drive just for this game.
Can somebody explain what extended distance scaling actually does?
It's LOD basically. Higher the setting, the less pop in / pladeholder ugly textures.
I see this statement quite a lot but am I right in saying that a 970 with an overclock doesn't mean 980 performance? As I understand it, the 980 has more over the 970 than simply clock speed.
Apart from an extra 0.5GB vRAM, it doesn't have anything that a clock speed boost can't make up for, is the point. You can definitely get nearly 980 performance with an OC'd 970.I see this statement quite a lot but am I right in saying that a 970 with an overclock doesn't mean 980 performance? There's gotta be some kind of memory leak issue. I've noticed my RAM usage slowly rise, too. It gets super juttery and laggy after 2-3 hours of play.
I already have this on PS4 but am thinking of double dipping.
My pc specs are:
i5 2500K with a slight overclock
16GB ram
2 x 680 SLI w/4 gb vram
Are my specs enough to play this at 1080p / 60fps?

Should be noted that this includes settings turned up. You can get better performance than the chart says for a particular card.

This game has some very strange issues in terms of performance, was out in the desert, fps was tanking out of nowhere, so I alt-enter to desktop and then alt-enter back again and straight away my frame rate is back at 60 and smooth as butter all the settings exactly the same as before.
What on earth could be causing this?
Anyone know how much of a performance hit each of the Advance setting are?

I moved he game on my main HDD (C:\) and it seems the stutter/pauses have been reduced dramatically. I also did what you said after that to see if they will go away completely but i'm still not sure if this makes any difference. There's a setting in the options called pause on focus loss. Try turning that off and see if that helps.
I'm interested to see if there's any real world performance impact when my additional 8gigs of RAM gets here.
I currently have 8, have another 8 on the way. I wasn't going to do it but Newegg just happened to have a sale this week on the EXACT sticks I have in my machine. For $50 it's worth taking a stab at it. I've run up against the 8gigs in two games so far - BF4 and GTAV. I expect that to continue.
Worst case scenario I just have an extra 8gigs for minimal money.
Turning on my custom music station is causing the framerate to drop by about 10fps while it is on. Turning it to any other station stops the drop. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
So, theoretically, instead of having 20 different song files in the folder, you could mix them into 1 bigger audio file and the game would perform better because it's basically just 1 file?Yep, one of the things posted on the OP, this is because the game is scanning the music folder for custom tracks. Also depends on how much music you have in there, the more music the longer the game loads and worse it performs![]()
What, really? IV didn't have that performance drop while using IndependenceFM. What a bummer, I wanted to include most of my music library. Isn't there an option to scan the music tracks in the folder only once?Yep, one of the things posted on the OP, this is because the game is scanning the music folder for custom tracks. "Grand Theft Auto V has stopped working" x1000 today
Why.. It worked perfectly yesterday.

Yeah but at least you will be able to listen to that nice Nightrider station someone uploaded on Youtube without making the game slower (i assume, i haven't tested it).Doesn't that station have custom commercials and banter? You would lose all that if it was one big file.
Don't think so. This has never been possible in any GTA game.In regards to the custom music, is it possible to add tracks to the game's regular stations? when I get this I have a lot of music that'd fit in with the other stations and I'd rather put them there.

Anyones framerate all over the place with a AMD 290? I seem to run anywhere between 35 and 90fps... I don't mind not being a solid 60 but with it jumping all over the place it seems a little disracting.
When I have messed with the graphics difference I have seen barely any difference between having 2xMSAA with everything maxed out to turning MAA off and the advanced shadow settings. Still seems to run at about 50fps as average but jumps to 35/90 depending on location.
Is there anybody playing in 4K? What AA do you use?
I'm using FXAA but was wondering if driver level AA or MSAA would be better, thanks in advance.
At 1080p, get an average of 50-80 fps depending on the level of action. If I enable vsync then the game locks me at around 60 fps (with consistant performance) despite my 122Hz refresh rate.
