Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

I beat this last night. Its insane how much content you can skip. I thought I wasn't at the last boss, because I had seen my brother playing
in a snowy area
that I somehow completely missed.

I hate people like you 😝

I had the same experience. I was 85 or so when I beat the last 3 bosses. ML took two tries because I was sloppy, WN was 1 shot, GMan was 2 shots, first try was down to 15%. Good ending was 2 tries because I was out of potions after killing
Gherman.
On ng+ cleric beast was 1 shot, and father g was 2 tries. On my first attempt, I think I used the
music box
too much and he transformed early and caught me off guard. Hell, Erb only took me 5 tries.

"attempts", "tries", psh. I've been doing so well I'm still using my starter weapon: my bare fists.

But seriously, FatherG was the first wall for a lot of people. If you remember the original OT it's what everyone was complaining about. I also felt the game got a little easier after that but probably only because of upgrades and also that you got used to the game mechanics.

If the prices/shipping weren't so insane, I'd love a few bloodborne souvenirs from the ps gear store... :(

Edit: sorry, wrong thread.

I'm still slowly mucking around Central Yharnham, just trying to get used to combat. >_<

Father G and the Undead Giant with 2 scythes gave me the most trouble. After that, most bosses went down fairly easy. I did "cheat" and get help with Paarl and Logarias. Paarl was because it was 1 am and I was done trying and probably under leveled. Logarias pissed me off and that run is unnecessarily long. I shot him and the damn bullets went right through him, then he killed me, was like F that, getting help.

Does anyone know how weapon scaling works?

Just before I went to Byrgenworth I put new gems in the two weapons I use, the cane and Ludwig's blade. Got through Byrgenworth and then died to the boss a bunch of times. I had to go back to farm vials and noticed that enemies that used to die in one strong attack were now taking two or three.

I had put gems in my weapons that added fire and arcane damage, I took those out and I'm back to dealing way more damage.
Rom
now seems totally doable.

I don't understand why this is though. If you're dealing fire/ arcane damage does your weapon start only scaling with Arcane? That doesn't make sense since both weapons scale with Skill and Strength, and leveling either stat increases their damage. So why am I doing so much less damage with the fire and arcane games equipped?

I don't think dmg scales with arcane, but enemies are resistant/weak to certain elements. When I was playing around, my +3 fire axe hit werewolfs harder than my +3 regular axe that had a bit more damage from gems.

Elemental gem mean no str/skl scaling, just arcane. Str/skl builds will do more damage at the cost of a higher stat investment. With arcane, you only need to meet the minimums to use the weapon, then pump arcane.

Hey all just want some advice:

I just beat
vicar amelia
and I'm trying to figure out where to go next... When I leave the cathedral that the boss was in I can go left, straight or right...
left takes me down a path with a closed door at the end and some giant invisible creature that one shots me, right takes me down into the forbidden forest where I hit a lamp, if I go straight down the stairs and hang a right where the troll is guarding the door that path takes me to the another checkpoint in the forbidden forest

Anyways my question is what is the best way to proceed... I at first went right and after progressing through for about 10-15 minutes I got killed by a pack of ravage dogs...

Is there anything else in the first district worth checking out? What's the deal with the area to the left?

Byrgenwerth has enemies that are mostly weak to arcane and "damage to kin" gems, so maybe your gems were arcane+ and efficient there, and taking them away got your weapon back to mainly physical damage which is much more effective on regular enemies ?

One thing to know is that equipping, for example, a bolt damage gem will not just add bolt damage to your weapon, it will completely nullify your physical damage and the scaling that goes with it, to replace it with bolt damage using the arcane scaling of the weapon.

So if you put a bolt gem in your holy blade, the blade will go to only average arcane scaling, instead of good strength and skill scaling.

Keep going through the Forbidden Forest

I would go to
Hemwick
first. Much easier and you get a really great tool from there.

Don't remember but I think you should check just in case.

Area to left is for little bit later.

Holy shit, I just absolutely wrecked Father G in my New Game +. I was expecting it to be this obnoxious ordeal, because he's so fast, but man, I decimated him in less than a minute.

I've apparently gotten incredibly good at visceral attacks, because I brought him down to a quarter health using nothing but visceral attacks (about three of them), before he went on to stage 2. I then used the
Tiny Music Box once
, and wailed on him the rest of the fight, dodging to his right when he'd try to hit me. He had been one of the most frustrating fights in the game for me, and I just steamrolled him. I almost felt sorry for him. Almost.

Is the strategy guide supposed to be out today? I know it's been delayed a couple times, but wasn't sure. I was hoping we'd get some new undiscovered info from it, but haven't seen any talk of it.

The Grand Cathedral where you fight VA and the room before EDotC are supposed to be the
same
place, right?
It isn't something crazy like a second secret Grand Cathedral room?

I noticed several differences between them: VA's room has a tree in the very back that extends above the balconies; the upper level has a different "outline" (VA's is less straight); the lamp isn't visible from above, and the ground looks slightly different (hard to tell). MIYAZAKI!!!!!!!

Also you can't see the alien slug baby that's trying to climb over the railing from VA's room. That would have been such great foreshadowing for people who were super aware.

Relic containing the Blood Echoes of a Great One. Use to gain cosmically nightmarish Blood Echoes. Like a true revelation, this uncanny relic defies understanding.

That's awesome. Was it in a Chalice Dungeon?

Check your insight.

Not sure what you mean, I didn't think insight has anything to do with damage.

Thanks for the replies! Seems kind of weird that strength and skill scaling go away if you use elemental damage, but I figured that had to be it based on the damage I was dealing.

I'm guessing I just shouldn't use elemental damage in this playthrough then? I already have 25 Skill and only 10 Arcane, upping Arcane is going to be expensive and negate all the points I've put in Skill. Oh well. This makes me curious to try an Arcane build at some point though.

just beat it, and after going for
the "good ending" i feel rather sluggish? wtf was that?
guess i have to read up on a lot of stuff in the lore thread.
this being my first souls game though, i gotta admit i really missed out before, had a great time with this overall.

Yes, you are probably better off not using elemental damage with your stats. Elemental gems turn your physical damage to zero, so they negate all STR and/or SKL scaling. You can use elemental gems on weapons that already have an elemental damage component to decent effect (again not ideal, but if you have a +10% arcane damage gem and a 2% Physical damage gem, you might consider using that on something like the Blades of Mercy).

Killed what I was looking forward to killing the most,
Amygdala.
Not as freaky a fight I was hoping it would be, but still fun.

Also spent a night invading people. I've actually never invaded people in any souls game. Coop has always been what I involved myself with. But man...it's exciting. I even have a great time getting my ass handed to me.

Finally got the
wheel weapon
Is there a list of weapons and armor sets so that I'll make sure to have them before I finish. Also doing a bunch of chalice dungeon. I'm terribly over leveled 86. I still have like 3 bosses left.

Here is a video of my fight, I feel like remaining short to middle range causes the swipes attack. I manage to get him to do the swipes a good amount of time. I use the 15% and 10 % health increase Clockwise Metamorphosis allowing me to survive a dash attack, +4 blood vials Communion as well. In addition I wore the Charred Hunter Set with the Bone Ash Mask for increase fire resistances. No idea if that does helps but that's what I did.

Just learn to read him. He's very predictable once you figure out his wind ups. I also suggest using a weapon with decent range. Last thing you want is to get pulled underneath him

You can tell right when he's about to do the fire puff as it's totally different from the chomp attack you're trying to get it to do. Just. Try to observe it and don't over commit with your attacks until you know it well enough to feel confident with your dodges.

I did it!

Added some distance, giving me more time to choose whether or not it was a good time to commit or to back off. On to layer 3!

Damn, eileen doesn't fuck around.
You don't see enough badass old (as in actually old, not 2000 year old demons who look and sound 20) women in video games, so Eileen was refreshing and awesome.

I felt really bad killing her in my first playthrough.

Yeah probably one of my favorite npc's in the game.
First playthrough I completed her quest line. In NG+ I attacked her right away but had to laugh at how quickly she owned me (Then told me to say hello to the doll!)

Couldn't agree more. Also some of the best music in the game.

Hell yeah,
Gehrman
's theme is beautiful and full of feels, and the setting is amazing. I loved that fight.

Gascoigne's theme is so stressful and you can feel the terror.
(And dat voice srsly, I LOVE his voice)

I am trying to beat defiled a
mygdala
now for three days. Even the dar
k beast of loran
wasn't that hard, hell even the defiled wa
tchdog
was doable. Do not get me wrong both were brutal bosses but doable. This one. NO WAY!

An Incredible amount of HP, super armor, attacks that can reach through the whole room and one hit kill me. Sometimes the boss keeps on smashing and smashing and smashing without stoping. I am reaching phase 3 and then I die. Always.

Long story short.

A ~10 minutes bossfight with one hit kills is not fair.

I know I even sound like Darksydephil, but I've come so far. Did every boss solo, finished the game on NG+, created a new char to finish the game a third time, did not over level and I am 1 trophy away from getting the plat one and now I hit a titanium wall. It is very frustrating.

Amazon US is currently showing April 17th as the release date. So hopefully tomorrow.

By faaaaaaar..
Indeed.

I actually left it to last before I went to fight the final game boss. Did all other optional areas before the Frontier. Didn't help that I didn't find the first 'shortcut' and fell into the swamp too many times.

I loved M
ensi
s tough. It was hard as fuk at times but the setting was outstanding.

Nightmare frontier is by far my least favorite level..

It's funny, anything I see people hating on in a Souls/BB game that isn't obvious bullshit like the hippo
vacuum grab, is almost always my favorite stuff in the games.

Capra Demon boss fight. Upper Blighttown. Valley of Defilement. Ebrietas. Nightmare Frontier. Toxic dart guys. Invisible paths in Crystal Caves.

Hell, I'm even fond of Frenzy for duck's sake hahah.

I really enjoyed it. Don't even remember dying in that area at all. Was slightly overleveled. But found the shortcuts easily enough and there was some decent loot. Shame A
mygdala
was glitched for me which slightly ruined the area as I beat her on my first try.

Nicely done!

This fight is still in the future for me but I don't know if I'll be able to do it. Nine minutes without mistakes is way too much to ask for me. :)

haha yeah, my hands actually started to slip around the middle of that fight and I got hit a few times. Pretty intense fight I took my time since I didn't want to be too aggressive. As much as it's hard and requires timing, it's one of my favorite boss fights in the game due to that reason alone.
