I,m worried how many of the old guard will be killed off in this new trilogy. I kind of expect at least some.

I'm especially worried about R2, because that bobbly droid might steal his thunder. Don't die R2...

R2 will never die. He just won't be the main droid in this movie.

Didn't actually paint and tattoo his upper body = no commitment whatsoever = 0/10

so why would something like a star destroyer be crashed on a planet? aren't they pretty much space only? and wouldn't it have hit the ground so hard there would be nothing left, or at least a massive crater?

I think it has been established that the Star Destroyers can fly in atmosphere. If so, presumably their anti-gravity devices can slow down a crash.

They are not space only. They obviously are built and take off and from planets. Episode 2 showed Similar sized ships taking off.

The Republic star destroyers took off from land, I see no reason why an Imperial Star Destroyer can't enter an atmosphere. They did in The Force Unleashed.

I'd argue that seeing new "bizarre" stuff for the first time is NOT what Star Wars is all about:

That's part of what the prequels got wrong: too much "oh wouldn't this be cool?" creatures, enemies, devices, etc., that did little to further the story or character.

New shit is nice but mostly superficial. Great way to sell toys, though.

Besides, there's nothing inherently wrong with pandering as long as the delivery is good and stuff feels genuine. I'll never get tired of saying it, it's all in the execution.

So wait, the Millennium Falcon is just as agile in atmosphere than it is in a vacuum? What the hell's up with that?

... In a movie with sound in space, giant pilot furry dogs with laser crossbows, light sabers, supernatural powers and all sorts of intelligent robots and aliens... you picked up on that very unlikely scenario?:)

I think you can start piecing the movie together from the trailer. Boyega has a change of heart, for reasons, sabotages the Star Destroyer. Star Destroyer and Boyega crash land in desert planet. Meets Girl, Girl offers help. Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon get involved, for reasons. Chase set-piece ensues, we already saw some of it in the first teaser, we saw more of it here.

Then uh... more Star Warsy stuff happens!

They wanted to literally crush the rebels

Yes, it was pure pandering and I fucking loved it. Job done. I can only imagine how great it would have been seeing that at the Celebration surrounded by light-sabre wielding fan-boys. I hope we're pandered to even more with this movie. We've been kicked in the probes repeatedly over the years and it's nice to feel that this movie is being made for and by SW fans rather than to prove a point like the prequels felt like they were trying to do. I don't want a movie that revolutionises or pushes technology for the sake of it, I just want a movie with heart and a sense of fun that enjoys the creative licence that the SW universe affords it.
I'm cautiously optimistic this time.

Fucking awesome teaser. I would very much like to see the handheld video in the convention hall where trailer premiered. To hear the fans screaming their throats off. :D

The view counter is still stuck at 578 views lol
That's... rather impressive. The view counter usually locks at 301 since after 300 Youtube counts in a different way. If it hit 578 before locking 278 people managed to get in before Youtube realizing it had to change servers.

This thing will be in the millions so fast.

Calling "pandering" is total BS anyway. It's a continuation of a story, of course it's going to have a bunch of the same stuff from last time. It had enough new stuff, we saw flashes of new characters, droids, designs, etc. And some older familiars, X-Wings, Falcon, Han, etc.

Holy shit

We see one blown up in space in RotJ so I would imagine the carcass would land somewhere? I'm not 100% how 'space' works but wouldn't it eventually crash land on a planet like a meteor?

We're debating science/reality in a Star Wars film now. Ok.

Overall, a decent trailer. Thought the burnt Vader helmet looked a bit goofy, some odd framing/camera work, and Boyega was only in distress mode throughout, but it brought the excitement back from being at the Walt Disney World Phantom Menace premiere event (the event, not the film itself :P) and that ROTS trailer that debuted in the commercials of...I think it was OC?

Hopefully I can ride this good feeling well past the release of the film itself.

If it crashlands from orbit, it would either burn up in atmosphere or make a big crater (assuming even close to realistic physics) or break up to many pieces. Since it is rather whole, it must have fallen rather slowly (again, assuming fairly realistic physics. Of course, that is not given since Star Wars).

I watched that trailer when it happened at, what, 11 ish? It's 3 p.m. now and I've spent the last 4 hours being giddy. It's gone by in the blink of an eye. So much happiness and positive thoughts all over the internet if only for a day.

If there's a scene where a Jedi brings down a Star Destroyer like in Force Unleashed, I'm gonna lost it.

But, you know, done is a badass way.
