Can't wait for future cloning and casting with their younger selves lol

I wonder what sort of accent Ridely and Boyega will have, George seemed to like to cast English people as villains in the first trilogy and I know both of them can do a strong American Accent.

Guys, I've never really been into Star Wars lore - more of a Sector 001 kinda guy if you know what I mean.

Can you recommend some literature/media to consume that will ultimately give me a backstory to this universe?

With the canon-reboot, there's no more "backstory". New novels and other things are being made but at the moment, they don't expand the universe much.

Arguably the films tell everything relevant. And The Clone Wars and Rebels series are canon, and the most developed things after the films.

Of the old expanded universe, i'd recommend Thrawn Trilogy (by Timothy Zahn), and most books by James Luceno.
(And of course The Clone Wars which is also part of the old continuity.)

EDIT Follow Spoony Bard's advice, below.

Watch the original trilogy (New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi). That's all you need.

Well since they rebooted everything this november, you dont have that much work ahead of you :)

Canon as of April 2015

Remake the prequels Disney, please. Erase them from canon and from my memory, forever...

My guess is more plot contrivances, more shit dialogue, and more CGI aliens based on racial stereotypes.
They can't just get rid of the prequels. Too much of the new canon media directly refer to them. The boos, comics, the new Rebels TV series. Etc. it's an all or nothing deal.

Specific plot points could be kept in remakes, while redoing everything that was done badly.

(Or just reboot the EU again :D)

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the second voice in the trailer when Luke is talking?

You can really hear it when he says "my sister has it".

Sounds like Serkis' character from the first trailer.

teen natalie does indeed resembles and angel, goofy pod racer kid.

god damn @ oscar isaac. he went overnight from the small part in drive to a coen bros. movie, xmen and freaking star wars.

he deserves it too.
thats him, the X-wing pilot? Goddamn, the dude just melts into the chars.

Rebels is on screen canon ;)

It's not going to happen. As Bobby said it would only happen in a full reboot. Which obviously won't happen any time soon, we are just about to kick off the sequel trilogy after all. The prequels are heavily integrated into the stories across the timeline in this franchise, they aren't going away. There is Natalie Portman as Padme front and center in an issue of the Leia comic after all. People need to accept the prequels are here to stay, no one says you have to like them but they are not going to be going away.

Hasnt been mentioned but my favourite part of the trailer was actually this bit

Im not even sure why, maybe it was the music hitting a crescendo, or that it genuinely looks real and practical, it just looks star wars to me.

How cool would it be if you could say "I played a Stormtrooper in a Star Wars movie".

Damn.

Same here. Love that solitary stormtrooper flying in the air ha.

And yet I always feel bad for that storm trooper who shot into the air lol. I didn't think he survived that :(

That flying stormtrooper better be accompanied by a wilhelm scream

Would be good place for it actually.

BTW, about that scene. Study the TIE Fighter. Note the gun placement, on the bottom, possibly in a turret, unlike in a normal TIE. Also note the wing/hull attachment points, they are wheel-like, unlike in a normal TIE. And finally, the cockpit window is a stripe, not like a spider-web like in normal TIEs.
Yet we see normal TIEs in the trailer as well.

Also note how the TIE's color scheme is new, white solar panels, black hull, reflective glass (compare to ESB where TIEs on Besbin), and considerably brighter laser emitters than before (they've always been red but not so bright).

Maybe its CGI but the tie looks real to me, on a rig maybe, it wont all be real I am sure it just moves in a practical way.

This scene screams of the scene from Into Darkness when Khan is in the shuttle craft firing on Federation HQ. You can tell its a JJ framing. I like it.

I was watching the panel and saw John Boyega admit that his character is a Stormtrooper. JJ didn't seem happy. Was that a genuine slip or was JJ having fun with the audience?

Probably just him having fun. If you look at the trailer there is a shot of a TIE Fighter firing on fellow Stormtroopers. There are also shots of him in the armor. It's pretty obvious at this point that Finn is a Stormtrooper that defects for whatever reason.

I wonder if this will have more practical effects and actual stagework and all, or if it will be another greenscreen fest out of the CGI machine.

Please be good :/

JJ's already said several times they've tried to use more practical effects. The new droid BB-8 is a physical prop for example.

Ah this gem and lucas admitting there is too much going on screen and screwed everything up.

Found this one on youtube..dear god looking back i now know how bad those movies where.

See I initially saw these clips interspersed into the Plinkett reviews and thought Plinkett was the one pointing out how much of a mess the making of this film was, but after actually watching The Beginning (the documentary all of this is taken from) I'm convinced the documentarians absolutely knew this too, and they edited it together in such a way to try to communicate that to viewers. At every turn they seem to go out of their way to stop and focus on mess of things going on. I love that there's the montage of Anakin screen tests, and they show a kid who's pretty decent, and then follow it up with a really, really terrible Jake Lloyd delivery where he royally fucks up his lines. They didn't have to use that take in the documentary, but they do to point out how horrible George Lucas' decision making is. It's painfully obvious just by watching the documentary that it's an absolute clusterfuck - an out of control train, teetering on rails without a brake.

I wonder what give it away? The fact that ALL THE FOOTAGE IS OF HIM AS A STORMTROOPER.

Well, not quite. Watching these trailers I'd hoped that he was an enlisted Storm Trooper - that's fresh and a cool direction that we haven't seen before, but I had a sneaking suspicion this was just another case of "Rebel in a disguise infiltrating enemy base" situation - straight out of ANH. If you saw a trailer of ANH there'd be a pretty decent chance audiences would assume Luke was also a rogue Storm Trooper.
