The Witcher 3 runs at 1080p ULTRA ~60 fps on a 980

Welcome to PC gaming.

I don't know man. What's the worse news to get?

You: "Just bought a shiny new GTX 970!"

GN (graphics nazy): "No ULTRA at 60 FPS for you!!"

:(

You: "But Ultra at 30, or very high at 60?"

GN: "Well yes".

:)

VS

You: "I just bought a shiny new console!!"

GN: "You are minimum SPEC! GET OUT!"

You: "But I can has 60 FPS on-"

GN: "HAHAHAHA! Get out!"

5930k + GTX980s in SLI

I really hope I can get some max settings at 1440p

Joke post?

The title of the thread is "The Witcher 3 runs at 1080p ULTRA @60fps on a 980", as in a single 980. So yes, with 2 980's and one of the most powerful processors around, you will do 1440p at 60FPS probably near locked.

You'd think so wouldn't you

It can't do GTAV maxed out, I have to turn lots of settings down for it to be 60 everywhere

Other games like Dying Light, Evil Within, AC:U and so on, they all eat my PC for breakfast

I'll be very surprised if it does run at 60 at that res

What? I get a near locked 60 in TEW at 1440p with a 780ti. When was the last time you played it, back in December the updated gave it up to a 20 fps boost(insane I know)

Seems like there may be an issue with your setup. As a single 980 should be getting near 60fps maxed out on a single 980 as well, let alone 2.

Benchmarks for dying light on a 980..
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dying-light-benchmark-performance-analysis,4060-4.html

Average of 57 frames, MINIMUM of 47 frames, @ Very High and 1440p.

Also the Evil Within should net you around 60 at that resolution as well.

Hope I can run high settings with a 780 and get good fps then @ 1080p. Don't really want to upgrade till Nvidia's new cards come out next year.

Oh yeah, I agree. I'd much rather take the realities of PC gaming over the realities of console gaming. But my original comment still stands. That's just how it is, for better or worse.

A 970 is probably going to be able to do Ultra with a setting or two toned down, maybe lower form of AA or hair effects. I'm not really worried. I'm assuming they mean 1080p/60 on a 980 with everything cranked.

I'm thinking of upgrading my i7 920/ gtx 780 to a i7-4790/ gtx 980 to get 1080/60 on this but am debating. I was just hoping to build a new rig next year.

Any feedback?

You're above reccomended. I'd say play it on that machine and save money for the innevitable R9 300 series or GM200 based card that'll probably be out in the early summer.
Or just don't play it until summer at all. But I'm sure that spec you have is already going to get a great experience already.

Cross post since this seems just as if not more relevant here.

Well fuck me. There is a EVGA 970 FTW on sale for $334, plus a $20 Rebate.

However it is not the FTW+ SLI version.

New to the Nvidia side, would I still be able to SLI them? Do I need another component?

I'm not sure what SLI version means.

Should be able to SLI them regardless, though I generally wouldn't recommend using an SLI setup. I would rather just purchase a 980.

If the PS4 is somewhere in the med-high range, I'll be pleased with that. I much prefer gaming from my couch with a controller when it comes to RPGs. Also not a huge graphic snob though :P.

I already have a 970 FTW, so buying a 980 at this point would do next to nothing for me. Plus I game at 4K, so the SLI seems to make that experience better.

There are two versions of the card.

EVGA 970 FTW

and

EVGA 970 FTW+

I was under the impression that the + version came with a bridge component or something for SLI? Like I said, new to the Nvidia side, I have been ATi forever.

After reading this more it seems like the plus version has a backplate for added cooling and a dual bios. So I should just be able to pull the trigger on the non plus version with the discount no?

Ha, and people were worried.

I'm sure I can muscle through a mix of high and very high with my 670 and Phenom II (which according to benchmarks, shouldn't have been able to run GTAV over 24 fps smh)

Yup, should be fine. I've never run SLI though so I'm not entirely sure if you need a bridge. Others could probably answer that for you.

If history is any indication, expect a mix of low (a few), medium (most) high (a few) very high (maybe one) settings on the consoles.

oh wow, i have i7 4770k instead of the 4790k one.. the rest of the specs are literally the same.. my body is ready for 1080p 60fps..

edit: this got me thinking, why in the hell did i buy 4770k and not 4790k ?...

Thanks. Purchased, along with a 4.99 SLI bridge cable.

One more question. Will my Corsair 750m 750W Power Supply be enough to run these things in unison?

CD Projekt Red have said they're targeting high on consoles and their work on the 360 version of Witcher 2 was pretty damn impressive. If they say they're targeting high I expect it to be mostly high.

Like I said HISTORY, has shown that devs always say high, the reality is what I said above.

It could happen that this game will be different. History, says, probably not.

Cannot wait to test out my two 660's. 1080/60 for me.

/s

Is it worth pairing a 980, or something similar, with an i7 2600k? I know that CPU is getting on a bit but I haven't really noticed it not being enough for any games yet. I don't wanna get a new GPU and find out I got a bottleneck.

Should have enough saved to buy my second 980 right away. $750CDN is a tough price to pay for 1440p maxed.

Graphics card prices in Canada are fucking absurd atm. Looks like I'm keeping my 2GB GTX 770 for the foreseeable future.
Unless AMD shows up with an affordable R390 and takes us to the promised land

hmm i'm running a 3770k @ 3.5Ghz with 16GB Ram and a 970GTX i hope I'll still get a mix of high and ultra @1080p with 30fps+

I should be fine if I run this at my native resolution (old 19'' monitor not 1080p) without down sampling .

I got 16 gb of ram, I7 2600k Geforce 970

Won't be at ultra settings but hey It should be looking good anyway .

Single GTX 970 and a i7 4770k. Somehow not even worried :P I'll have to tone down some stuff I'm sure, but I think were all in for quite the visual treat. Maybe a stupid question, but has it been verified as to whether or not the PC will include controller options? I mean I imagine it would.

Perhaps native Dualshock 4 support if I'm lucky :D

Someone did say they are natively supporting the dual shock 4. Will be interested to see more on that, if it comes complete with button prompts I will definitely use it over my XBO/360 gamepads.

In a heartbeat! Just having gesture support when using it in DS4windows is almost too awesome lol. But yeah, I'd love to have some correct button prompts :P

Blasphemy, but I dont really care about frame rate. I could play everything at 30 and be fine. With that said, would a 970 and i5-3350p be able to play high-ultra at 30 fps? I dont know much about my cpu. Still have to upgrade my 760 4GB to the 970, but will defintely do so before launch
