Huh, they skipped the explanation that both D'arby and Kakyoin chose the exact same car and that that's why pretty much the moment one of them gets even a slight advantage they'll most likely have the race won. Not that it was needed but yeah.

This was the first 2 parter that I feel wasn't needlessly padded out.

Well that's probably because this was like 5 chapters compared to the usual 3.

Crunchyroll messed up the translation a bit: CR has Joseph asks D'Arby "Is this illusion due to your stand" when in reality it should say "Is this illusion due to a stand".

Otherwise the next line doesn't make sense. The illusion is not the result of D'arby's stand.

Hah I was wondering about that too.

Come on people where the GIFs at!

The animation was rough prior to entering D'arby's realm but once they arrived it improved. The CG used for F-Mega was acceptable but I was still disappointed we didn't get a well animated 2D race. The simple animation technique used for the dolls was interesting, it's the style of animation you'd see in extremely budget titles where a single still is stretched and manipulated instead of animated with unique frames, almost like flash animation. But it wasn't necessarily a negative as the stiffness of the animation did add a sense of creepiness to the dolls.

The best part of the episode of course was Joseph's commentary. It always cracked me up reading this battle and seeing how excited he got by the fight. I'm glad they were able to translate that energy here.

How many episodes is this season scheduled to have? since I already read the manga and watch the old series I had decided to wait until this season is over to pick it up when just started, and I am honestly surprise its still going on I thought it was gonna be the same length as part 2 for some reason. Though I suppose that wouldn't make sense since Part 3 had more volumes.

There are 8 episodes left to air.

Yeah that really didn't make sense; I had assume it was a typo.

Man, that was a very intense episode. I was on the edge of my seat for a while.

Joseph is such a backseat gamer though. It was both funny and slightly irritating to see him talk so much to Kakyoin during the race. I loved it.

I mean, that was just classic Speedwagoning. If someone isn't narrating over the action, clearly explaining things that you can obviously see, in a Speedwagon-esque manner then it isn't JoJo's!

Joseph even did what most gamers hate. he got Darby irritated by all his talk and was making him lose focus on the game.

also, that game was practically F-Zero. all it was missing was boost power and hovercrafts instead of F-1 cars.

Really awesome ep, those are some advanced graphics for 1980s. :P

it's the Stand's power!

those things are pretty crazy. if there's a Stand that can create a dream world, why couldn't there be one that creates games beyond current tech?

Didn't peg Kakyoin and D'Arby to be expert gamers. Even Joseph seemed familiar with the track at spots. F-Mega must be a popular game.

If Jotaro's so cool, why doesn't he just go "fuck it" and sacrifice his arm instead of potentially sacrificing his friend's life? It's not a big deal, he'd be like his grandfather. Iggy did it.

I didn't understand that at all, so this explains what it was supposed to mean. Thanks.

This fight reminds me of one of the fights in Yu Yu Hakusho, the one where Kurama had to fight that game playing kid. Am I to assume Jojo inspired that? These dolls are creepy. This dude is more insane than his fucking brother is!! He's like a Dexter villain in a way. "F-Mega! Serek yer cur." This shit was awesome, really wish Kakyoin had more to do this season. Why does Kakyoin have the same color scheme as Kurama?

Because Jotaro is the strongest out of all of them by far.

Yeah, I imagine it would be extremely risky because of how they should all be at their best to prepare for Dio. How D'Arby's stand operates also doesn't appear to be fully apparent, so an attack could result only in losses. It made me think, though: if someone loses a limb, I assume this implies their stand does too? That means Iggy's stand should be missing a leg?

Yes, probably. A stand and the user are connected, so if it's a human shaped stand like Star Platinum or Silver Chariot, if the user lost limbs the stand should too.

Although I can't think of any canonical examples of that. Well actually there might be one but that's spoilers.

Iggy's Stand is made up of sand, while others are made up of their fighting spirit. Because of this, Iggy's stand and himself are not linked.

dat kart throttling tho

also this answered my question as to where Kakyoin's parents are. Looks like Dio killed them.

Correct, it's fair to say that the action in Stardust Crusaders was the antecedent for those Yu Yu Hakusho battles.

Wow when I saw F-Mega, I didn't think it would be that blatant. Then I realised this came out after F-Zero but the spin attack or riding on walls in a tunnel in the manga must have came out before F-Zero X, so is this yet another thing that Araki inspired?

Yeah Iggy's sand isn't connected to him, otherwise his stand getting beheaded would have killed him too. Stands that are "objects" like Boingo's book or Iggy's sand don't have the mirrored damage properties of the humanoid stands.

Yeah in hindsight the territory fights reek of stand fights, especially ones that require complex rules. Makes me wonder if there's a stand that influenced that battle of the taboo words from that season as well.

This week's episode was fucking action packed! I loved the animation too, from the ways the dolls animated and the race was animated too (especially that tunnel scene). So good.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is a 3 parter after all. God damn it I want to get to the next fight already.

Edit: Or...not? They're not calling it D'arby the Player part 3 but Vanilla Ice part 1 even though the D'arby fight is not over yet. Well, ok then...

How long till I get my Dio sama fix?

So its Vanilla Ice and not Cool Ice? Excellent

Once again I get my hopes up that we will have a wholly competent episode and I end up yet again massively disappointed because the writers believes that he is smart and intelligent. I wish we had a true master storytelling doing this anime as it would really be much better than this. When your characters are saying things like this, then you know there are significant plot issues all over the place
First that is just bad game design and I doubt there is any game that would allow you to take some shortcut like that. The writer favors cheaters way too much. Second what type of writer would really have Kakyoin going missing for like 20 episodes only to appear again just to quickly go to a doll like state? Its not only offensive to Kakyoin but embarassing to us viewers. Sure its nice that Jotaru will probably rescue and save him gloriously (I cant wait I hope), but Kakyoin deserves some kudos and accolades in this season. Everyone else got some so why cant he? The clock is ticking down in the season, so hopefully we can get back on track for a fantastic conclusion.

Also Joseph is pretty rude gamer.
