"Sir, we have rounded up initial reactions to the picture of Leto as Joker."
"What are people saying?"
"They're split. Some love it, others hate it. Now they're making photoshops and mocking the character design, especially the tattoos."
"Everything is proceeding as planned, then."

Has this been posted yet?

That is some fucking rose-tinted glasses right there. There was huge backlash to TDK's portrayal of Joker until the movie actually came out.

I'm completely baffled at how completely lacking in self-awareness the internet is. We did this exact same thing with Ledger.

I had no problem with that pic at the time. I didn't see many people complain about it, but I guess some did.

Some?
Quite alot of people complained.
It didnt look like any joker people had seen before....there was quite alot of hate.

if they do remove the tats I hope they don't go overboard, the only ones that are wrong are the damaged and hahaaaaas.

everything else makes him look like a psycho punk.

It's alright. Looks much better without tattoos. Hopefully he'll be covered up most of the time. The forehead tattoo is too much though...

I'll never get how fans can accept hundreds of reinterpretations and alternate universes and such in the comics but expect film/tv to be sacrosanct and make little to no changes.

You don't know comic book fans then. There's arguments about changes of comic book characters every time there's a switch of authors, none the less a switch of universes.

It's not because comic book fans hate change, it's just that there's going to be varying opinions about everything because that's how opinions work.

If this was the first time the Joker ever made an appearance in the history of the world, I can guarantee you there'd still be people saying he looks like angsty hot topic teen, and some people saying he looks cool and menacing. It's just insulting to assume every criticism comes from people afraid of change.

His tats are just too clean looking and fake. Anybody getting tats in the streets would know they would not look like that.
The whole thing would look a lot better if the tattoos were sloppier and had scars to look like they were cut into him. Can't imagine the Joker just calmy going to a tattoo artist and saying "HA ME UP."

I picture him crashing tattoo parlours with a massive entourage of thugs, killing all the other customers, and holding the tattoo artist at gunpoint. He'd make a show of it. When Joker decides to get ink it's an event for the entire family.

I was skeptical of Ledger but I always dug the look. I remember the backlash, just sharing my thoughts.

This feels the other way around for me.

Ledgers best quality about his Joker was the acting. Other wise the make up and the hair was trash

nah the makeup was really cool too. especially in that one scene in jail in the reveal trailer.

and this one looks great too, aside from a few suspect tattoos. i like the grill and some of the ink.

Don't think the artist would be working with steady hands if that was the case

I can't tell if this is sarcasm. Maybe I'm completely misremembering things but I feel pretty confident in saying that the average opinion of Ledger Joker started turning positive once we saw his face.

Completely misremembering. The reaction was way more negative than this. The picture made it worse for some. Hell I wasnt even on GAF then but the sites I was on did not get better with the image. I think it only really got better after the news about his suicide broke tbh, which is kind of shit.

Also needs more battle scars as well for the supposed batman rival who would take many a beating.

Whenever I see that "Damaged" tattoo, I can't stop thinking of the Joker looking through a catalog in the tattoo parlor to find the perfect font for it.

You are misremembering.

I seriously feel like I'm taking crazy pills, why do so many people not remember the reaction to Ledger's joker reveal? It wasn't that long ago!
