PlayStation 4 lifetime sales pass 22.3m worldwide

Shouldn't have made a post that flaming on mobile. Lmao.

It all applies to this generation in general and it is my subjective feelings on the matter. You can't deny the lack of fresh and exciting titles tho. Combine that with sparse, messy releases of multiplats and underwhelming techical prowess of these consoles and you see where I'm getting at.

I've sunk over 100 hours into Bloodborne but that's not enough to make me wet myself over this machine.

I we don't see shitton of new exclusive titles at E3 I'd say they done fucked up.

The console is still a joke when it comes to the game library. Two years in.

The way things are going can't see this success lasting long... The ball is in Sony's hands now.

I am an adult with a job and a kid and cannot keep up with the new releases on any platform, even Wii u.

I never understand how people complain about there not being enough games.

Not enough games in your chosen genre? If you like jrpgs, sure. But where are those being offered elsewhere?

Wow, great job by Sony.

I've been reading this exact same thing since January 2014.

btw, you're off by six months.

Not really.

That's insane that it had been tracking on par with the Wii, which was a lightning in a bottle phenomenon that had everyone talking. I'm not surprised the console is doing well, but I'm surprised it is doing this well as it stands.

I suppose it's a combination of people craving for a new gen and the general opinion that it is the better of the two main ones. Congrats to Sony either way!

A lot of people think that only AAA exclusives count and are confused why so many people would be satisfied with a system that mostly houses multiplatform titles and is light on the quality exclusives. Of course, the answer is the fact that most current gen gamers own a PS4 OR a Xbox One OR a Gaming PC and not all 3 like several people on GAF do.

The argument fails to appreciate history. The first two holiday seasons of PS3 became a myriad memes, gifs, and innuendo that boiled down to: "PS3 has no gamez". Eventually the library solidified and output increased from both first and third party.

Selective memory, redefining what constitutes AAA, and cherry picking based on maligned preferences (e.g. "Bloodborne is niche!" , "InFamous is boring." , "Drive Club is awful") is confounding. Impatience, a lack of foresight, or maybe just poor expectations. I've seen this arguement time and time again, and history repeats itself nearly every generation.

Except we are 1.5 years in.. console is still in it's infancy. And I'm not going to even bother addressing your comment on the games library.

Just a note: since those are from the latest financial release, those are shipped numbers. They're not sell-through as we've seen with the recent announcements from SCE themselves.

You know exclusives aren't the majority sellers on consoles, right?

What you feel is lacking, others like me think there is a tons of games to play.

Just to be clear I expressed scepticism towards future success of a video game console 'Playstation 4' in the current landscape, didn't insult you or your mothers.

All too easy for Sony, where's the competition gone? Say the PS4 was released 20 years ago, would have made for a much more interesting "fight".....you had Sega still on the scene, Nintendo still giving as good as it gets...Atari still trying to make in-roads, 3DO/Matsushita threatening to de-rail the PS4 momentum with the imminent launch of the M2...(and in this instance the console actually DOES come out..)

20 years ago Sony started its reign & decimated the competition with PS1. Trying to throw PS4 back in time, with such sweeping changes in the industry in the past few years, is a strange way to look at things.

Are you just dancing around an opinion that this achievement isn't impressive or something?

At least the "PS3 has no games" people could point to the large number of third party console exclusives that the 360 was receiving until about mid 2008. Other than the odd Titanfall, that hasn't really happened this generation. Almost everything is PS4/XB1/PC, and if you don't want to spend money on a PC, the PS4 version is typically the better of the two console choices. That's enough for most people. Obviously stuff like Bloodborne or Uncharted helps, but most of those 22M people are playing Destiny, GTA, Call of Duty, Fifa, etc.

Yeah man. No reason at all its selling this much. Like where are the games man? You've got the Order 1886, Infamous Second Son, Driveclub, Bloodborne, all the multiplats. Man no games at all. An utter joke. I mean look at the indie games. Who even likes those? Resogun, Shovel Knight BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

/s

First of all, half the games you listed are straight up trash. Throw Knack, LBP, and Killzone on that turd pile, and it's a hard argument to make that the PS4 has the worst collection of exclusive games that we've ever seen on a somewhat successful gaming system.

That said, his assertion is stupid, as we are going to be swimming in top shelf games this year for the PS4. Just not necessarily from Sony.

Bloodborne is the best game I've played in the last two years. To a niche crowd, it's a system seller. But that's all we are, a niche. Sony needs that crazy mass appeal exclusive game, which I'm not even sure Uncharted is enough. They have the best hardware, now they just need to show people what you can do with it.

So it's now behind the Wii in the same time period? I mean, it was expected but I was kinda hoping the PS4 could maintain the lead, at least to minimize the contraption the console industry is suffering.

Still, 22.3 million is nothing to cry about.

"PS4 has no games" is a tired, factually untrue narrative- and you were rightfully called out for it. Nothing to do with insulting mothers, friend.

Tbh no "next-gen" console deserves these numbers today. Imo the hype was much better when last gen launched. For the first time you could buy a gaming machine that is better or on the same level than a high-end gaming PC. Now you can buy a cheaply made product which is already outdated on release :/

Times definitely have changed...

Were you around for the PS3?

The first two years were shaped largely by Resistance, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Haze, and Lair. Than- 2009 happened: Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, InFamous, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5 became show pieces.

If that ratio of time:quality/library doesn't make sense, than I'm afraid you should sell your PS4 and consider picking it up later on. There is a strong coorelation between Sony's first party stalling and quality.

I'm not insulting you, I'm pointing out your arguement has deep rooted fallacies. You are predicting a sales failure based on what? Your dislike for the current output?

It may not reach the 100 million mark as quickly as Wii did but it should have legs to see it go beyond that. Wii had no legs and died prematurely in comparison to 360 and PS3, so if we have another long generation then it should surpass Wii's LTD.

Wow...I really had you pegged as a master troll who's pulling some sort of con...but now I see you're doubling down on this garbage.

They are a month old so chances are, they do represent the number of consoles sold through, at this particular point in time...

Are you saying that I should be completely satisfied with its offerings on quality exclusives though?

I used harsh language but didn't say it had no games. Bloodbornes exclusivity sold me on it but besides that theres nothing concrete coming this year. It needs more games like that FAST to keep me interested. God of War remasters don't cut it.

E3 should prove me wrong but can't help but to feel pessimistic.

Worst collection eh? Right. You might want to check out the only tangible way to check that we have, metacritic, and see is not true. And as for bloodborne being niche, I would have said the same thing, but did you see the sales charts for that thing. As much as souls fans want to think those games are still some underground game that only a couple of thousand people know about, the reality is that they have gotten massively popular. Sure it's not CoD numbers but it's definitely more than than what a real niche title like a VN would sell.

There's very little chance that the PS4 sold 2 million consoles in a month, even with Bloodborne releasing, and a pretty strong month in Japan.

"PS4 has no games" is a tired, factually untrue narrative- and you were rightfully called out for it. Nothing to do with insulting mothers, friend.

It's amazing how this happens to every console, every generation

Every single console has the "has no games" jibe thrown at them in the first few years, it was said about the PS2, the PS3, the 360 was called the Xbox 1.5 for ages

It always takes a while for a console to build up a library, and the 2nd half of a a consoles life will generally contain more great games than the first half as devs get used to working with the hardware

The PS4 is no more lacking than any other system, and the same goes for the XB1

I can guarantee you there will be a "the PS5 has no games" joke repeated frequency for the first 2 years after that comes out too, because gamers have no memory

I got mine two weeks post launch, from the 2nd patch of systems they were able to get "up here". There has not been a day without something to play - I love this console!

Are you saying that I should be completely satisfied with its offerings on quality exclusives though?

Honestly, that sounds like your problem. Maybe you shouldn't of bought a PS4 if all you would play for the entire year is Bloodborne.

I didn't buy a PS4 until there was around 5 games I wanted, and even then I was shocked with the awesome stuff I missed, not even mentioning the amazing indie games I got through PS+.

Maybe think of everything you want to play before throwing down 400 bones on a single game.

Hot damn I didn't know it was still tracking close to the Wii. I know the Wii had big time shortages so I don't expect it to hold like that...but still that's pretty damn impressive.

Topkek.

PS4 deserves those sales regardless of your ''feelings'' to next-gen.

E3 should prove me wrong but can't help but to feel pessimistic.

The console was released merely 1.5 years ago. Listwar.com tells me PS4 currently has 31 retail exclusives (122 retail games total), and 108 digital exclusives (164 digital games total). Total: 286 games. And it is libraries that sell consoles.

Sure I can, especially if we're talking subjective feelings. Bloodborne has been a hell of a fun ride even if you seem to think it's the only game on the system. This indie wave has given us game experiences we won't soon forget. Transistor being my front runner there. It's inspired big publishers and developers to try their hand at smaller, riskier, art focused games like Valiant Hearts. We have far more released for a massive breadth of gaming preferences in the first year+ than we've seen at any system launch. That's not subjective, by the way.

Actually, we can objectively say that a majority of 22.3 million people disagree with you.

Combine that with sparse, messy releases of multiplats and underwhelming techical prowess of these consoles and you see where I'm getting at.

No, I don't see what you're getting at when, despite its mediocre to lame gameplay, the Order is the best looking game released so far. Sparse multiplats? What are your talking about?

I we don't see shitton of new exclusive titles at E3 I'd say they done fucked up.

Exclusives don't sell consoles. They just don't. So your assessment is woefully ignorant of reality.

I'm sad that you weren't joke posting because it means you actually believe this. That disappoints me.
