I just asked him about the framerate and he told me it does dip sometimes with a high number of cars and rain/storm, but overall it's solid.
Jeff from Giantbomb said that he got the game yesterday but couldn't show any footage until Monday.

It's a motorsports simulator. As in actual racing rules and regulations. i.e Formula 1 class will only have Formula 1 cars, Le Mans races will adhere to the rules and regulations of Le Mans and so forth.
If Madden and FIFA games strive for accuracy in the rules of their sports, ProjectCARS does something similar for each of it's racing leagues.
At least that's what I understand based on the description Megasoum provided me.
So should start seeing some impressions from the media then.
I'm quite interested to see the reactions to it....

Had a go on this today in my local GAME (PS4 version), very good!
It was just a single lap race at the Nurburgring (F1 circuit) in a old Ford Escort, it looks great & does play well, i did have a few issues as it was the demo & i had to change views while racing (i prefer the bumper-cam) also i couldn't get the HUD to display (i couldn't find a way to show the HUD after pressing all the buttons).

If you get to try it again, the HUD toggling is on the D-Pad (left or right if I remember correctly). D-Pad up is the light switching.

would there be any interest in a cross platform weekly hot lap challenge? Basically ever week we pick a car and a track (maybe conditions to spice things up) and we post our lap times, along with any assist that were used.

Yeah absolutely, I loved the challenges we used to have here (rip Foli) even if I rarely had time even back then. I can hardly believe that had our first challenges over 3 years ago; time has gone by so fast

I liked Need for Speed Shift and Shift 2 (by slightly mad studios) for what they were at their time but now PCARS is supposed to be a more or less pure Sim. Looking at the money Project CARS had raised (and comparing it to how much money Forza and GT make) and also looking at the overlap of tracks from Shift 2 and Project CARS... also hearing how cars SOUND(it's very similar) my fear was that PCARS would be a Shift 2 with better graphics and slightly modified physics.
So I raced the same tracks in the same cars in 4 different games (don't know the PCARS build, but it's from last year):
Bathurst in Mercedes SLS AMG
Laguna Seca in Lancer Evo X
What makes all this hard to compare is that some times are older and I don't remember if they are from when I still used TCS and ABS and racing line in early 2014 (If I had to guess all times are already without assists, but some with racing line some not). Also my PCARS times are done on my friends T500 RS wheel that I never used before.
EDIT: The PCARS Lancer Evo X is a "Lancer Evo X FQ400" with more HP and higher downforce bodykit than the Evo X versions from the other games, sorry for that.

Oh thanks, if i get the chance i will try that, i don't know what build it was, it only had the single race option & put you right in at the start of the race, so trying to drive/race while pressing all the buttons to change view etc, i always use the bumper-cam view (the in-car on CARS looked really good, but it's not my prefered view).
I wanted to try it as i have the SE on pre-order & was 50/50 about canceling, but after trying it, i'm looking forward to it arriving now.
Embargo lifts at 9AM on the 6th of May for UK journalists.
From what I've seen him playing it looks very twitchy on rain (every steering input seems to make the rear very unstable like some cars on SHIFT) but he's now driving almost like he was using a wheel on dry tarmac.
Had a chance to play the final version in Game today (PS4). It was single race - Brno (thunderstorm) / Mclaren P1.
- Didn't notice drop in frame rate - even from start
- Some noticable aliasing around the car
- Rain makes racing much more difficult which is nice
- Noticed some clipping (wing mirrors mainly)
- Damage looked nice
- Load times seems a little lengthy
- Also, the cars I tested had some noticeable understeer.

Or was every car clear in motion, like this?
Any verdict on the PS4 version is very important right now IMO.

I have to say this is weird for a game with such an open development. I'm curious to read the impressions, but i have no doubts this game will be well received, even by the press. It tickes all the boxes they usually complain in a racing game, so even it it's too hard for the general press they should recognize what Pcars does and doesn't.

It was the default for a single race on PS4. I didn't notice the count and it wasn't on the hud by default which I remember thinking was odd at the time. Maybe someone tweaked with the settings earlier or something. There was a lot anyway becuase I kept sliding off the track and getting overtaken.

I went ahead an preordered the PS4 version from Best Buy with GCU. I figured it was worth it to get the preorder bonus cars and I want another game besides Driveclub to play with my new wheel (Thrustmaster T300rs).

So.. if they didn't have the money for a Ferrari liscense, why didn't they crowdfund that too? sucks mang.
That's not true, AC has Ferrari because they have very close connections and have worked for Ferrari in the past (providing the simulator they have at the Ferrari Factory Museum and the F1 Sim Game). The license itself is at least in six figures, but could go even higher. As much as I would like it, I'm not really holding my breath for a Ferrari license. The last part of your post is a bit uncalled for; just using common sense and a bit of google should be enough to realize that's not the case.

According to the devs it has 8x AF on PS4. I don't know whether that's in the gold version or added in the Day 1 patch (which isn't out yet).

The side barriers definitely didn't look that great as it they went into the distance.

Project Cars supports Fanatec wheels on PS4 with an adapter.
This probably has more to do with Logitech being happy that you will have a reason to buy their next wheel and they an excuse for stopping to support their old wheels.
Hard to believe that the guys who made Ferrari Legends would not have the connections to get the licence.
Plus, I am not talking about having all the Ferraris ever: the 5 or 6 most iconic would be fine. And then much more affordable I guess.
Plus, if SMS sells a DLC pack, it would recoup the costs.
But, maybe SMS said they would never release payed DLC... I don't know and what I can find on the web states that free DLC would be added every month... not that payed LDC would never happen.

On a tablet so apologies for any typos, but a dedicated for game and a game with Ferrari cars is quite a different thing from licensing perspective. Naturally they would have contacts there, but Kunos has been a close partner and we don't know what sort of deal they have, but has to be special for them to afford the license. The cars would be licensed separately anyway, just like it already works for most big manufacturers so that's a moot point (and iRacing wouldn't most likely have gotten many yet they still taught it was too expensive). I wouldn't be so sure that it would recoup the costs easily, though it's a matter of many variables and typing on a tablet is pita so I'll just say that when a license could cost tens of percentages of the budget you have to wonder it's ROI. Yes there will be both paid and free DLC coming, but I'm unaware of the details. In short, yeah I do think you're a bit off the mark.

This seemed to be in reply to XBone discussion. However, fresquito's post suggested a general 8x for both consoles. Perhaps the increase to 8x AF is only on the white lines?

Just making sure I'm understanding this correctly, living in the US the only way I can get the limited edition cars is by purchasing the digital edition correct? Really don't want to buy digital but the limited edition cars are too good to ignore. Would be nice if they'd list it on PSN already.
