Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

GFs were definitely in my mod plans due to my pedantic need for a quiet stick.
Thanks for showing how well they match up with the VLX. Those+Silent JLF are in my future.

I was worried they might clash, but the larger silver circles around the buttons fit the GFs quite well.

Looks great with those GFs indeed. I'll have to do with the stock stick for a while though. Didn't order a replacement.

I found the trick to getting them perfectly aligned is to first insert them normally, then use a wrench on the underside of the buttons (by the quick disconnects) to fine-tune the orientation.

All 3 vlx? That's nice I was thinking of getting the others but I couldn't justify the cost since I won't use them.

As for the gamerfingers they actually look a lot better than I thought they would I'll be putting an order in for some this week. The Kuros ant as bad as I thought they'd be mine aren't squeaky at all and feel pretty decent. The options button is a different story though...

I didn't see any dings in the case and I didn't get any air bubbles in the foam so I'm pretty happy about that.

*walks into Arcade Stick thread as a complete noob with basic question*

I'm in over my head hear aren't I? Well...here goes.

Looking for some recommendations on a Arcade Stick to use with my PS4. I picked up MKX a couple of weeks back and am starting to get blisters using the DS4.

Hori Kai is a great starter stick available at Amazon.
But honestly MKX is very pad friendly, I have a PS4 arcade stick and prefer pad to it for MKX.

It's the forward back, and back forward movement that's proving difficult for me on the DS4. I never seem to line it up right. Would the Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2 be overkill? Is it a good arcade stick?

Not overkill, the TE2 is excellent and easily moddable. It is however, more expensive than the Kai and has fewer features, such as missing a touchpad, which for MKX resets positions in training mode.

Edit: I don't want to give information overkill. TE2 is great. DasRaven's post is excellent and concise. I have been unable to find the Kai at MSRP. More TE2's should be releasing this month.

I noticed last night the touchpad also toggles the tagged move display on/off during matches.

However, if I recall correctly from what I saw on the UltraChen videos, if you change the delayed start button option (so you have to hold start to pause), you can double-tap the start button to reset position. Someone might need to verify, though.

Ha. That wasn't too much info at all actually. I came back to the thread to read what you posted again only to see you edited it. *laughing*

Hey what's the difference between the Hori V4 and the V5? The V5 appears to be available.

The touchpad is also used to toggle full-screen mode in King of the Hill (unless there's an alternate button combination?).

Thanks!

Well, good, and I'm glad you saw it then! I wasn't sure if dumping a bunch of info about button brands and stick abbreviations was the best way to recommend a stick to someone. Happy to be wrong.

I don't really know what the difference is. I could be wrong, but I recall reading that the V4 was sort of an interim stick with limited supply made to get in on the new console wave early, which is why stock is so hard to find for it now. The 5 might be slightly better organized on the inside and is replacing the V4 for all I know. That might be totally wrong, though.

Well the VLX is in my country at least. Hope it will arrive soon.

It's too bad I'll never be able to mod it as it would have been awesome if I could use it on my X1 as well.

Have you tried toggling the special input setting for MKX? It makes it so that diagonal inputs become necessary, so the motions are more like SF games (It would make back forward inputs into half circle motions). That way, you can slide/roll your thumb across the d-pad instead.

I'm also gonna echo what a previous poster said and mention that MKX is very pad friendly (to me, it feels designed around a pad far more than a stick mainly due to the block button). Buying a $200 stick for this game might turn to disappointment really quick if you find that the layouts feel awkward.

So been testing out my VLX last couple days and I gotta say, I've seen the YouTube videos of squeaky kuros but mine don't and I love them and I love this stick. Dare I say they even feel more responsive than sanwas? I kept going back and forth between my OG TE and the VLX and it just feels so good. The hayabusa lever too. The kuro buttons feel a lot bigger on my fingers too and I like it. Maybe Hori is hearing the criticism about kuros and fixing them but the set I have are great. No need to change anything on this stick for me...I just wish they offered kuros in other colors.

The Kuros in the VLX appear to have gone through some additional QC relative to those in the cheaper HRAPs. My experience is that the Kuros in the VLX and FE are fine, but the ones in the HRAP4 are not.

Yep, facing the TV.

Thanks for all the input.

Finally got my VLX, it feels like I'm the last one to get it in this thread. This is my first time using the Hayabusa and Kuro buttons, and I must say I kind of like them. At first I thought it felt exactly like Sanwa parts. But after just a tad bit more time with the stick I could definitely feel the difference. That minor difference was actually screwing up my execution when I was playing USF4 earlier. But after half and hour or repetition just practicing stuff I'm getting use to it now. I probably won't end up liking it more than the Sanwa parts, but I think the Hori parts are pretty good. Far far better than the stock ones I remember using in my cousins HRAP3 from years ago.

Will that Black Vewlix RAP also work on PC? So tempted.

I did some testing on this very subject. My PC has a motherboard that is incompatible with PS3 sticks. So my old VLX as well as a few others didn't work on it. The new VLX on the other hand works regardless of whether you're in PS3 or PS4 mode. Their are a few minor issues though. Regardless of which mode you use, the light and middle attacks will be swapped. So you have to go and change that yourself.

Another thing is that whatever mode you started with, you're stick with(in USF4 anyways). Basically when I used PS4 mode to play USF4, I tried switching to PS3 mode and it didn't work. Even when I unplugged the stick and plugged it back in. When I restarted the game in PS3 mode, it worked. Again it wouldn't work when I switched to PS4 mode, but worked when I went bcak to PS3 mode.

This is just my experience though, maybe yours or others will be different.

My vlx comes tomorrow and originally I thought I would mod it with gamerfingers...now I am not so sure. Kinda like in the round buttons look of the Sanwa silent buttons.

I've had this stick for the longest time, just sitting in the closet and now i'm ready to use it since i upgraded my PC.

What are everyone's opinions on it and is it possible to mod it?

1st Gen TE? It's a classic!

What kind of modding did you have in mind? PS360?

If you're playing it on PC it should work without issue. I have a first gen 360 TE and I used to use it exclusively on my PC since I was primarily a PS3 player for fighters.

Also what mods are you looking for? The stock parts are already high quality but if you want more functionality and some customization to the buttons I'm sure some of the guys here like ban25 and skilletor would be great help.

So has everyone who ordered a VLX from Arcade Shock had theirs ship? I haven't heard anything since placing the order in February.

Finally worked out a solution that works for me. I have my iCade Core sitting there doing nothing, it looks like I can squeeze in a Sanwa JLF, some gold-leaf concave buttons (which I've been struggling to find a case for) and will dual-mod it with either a PS360 or just a PS3-compat PCB (so I can still use it with my iPad).

Win-win.

Everyone's should have shipped already I placed my order in early March and mine was delivered on May 1st. I would contact them if I were you since you paid the full price up front to see what is going on with your order.

Modded a couple of old Hori arcade sticks:

This is a Hori DOA 4 Xbox 360 stick. Cherry wood top-plate with a matte lamination, Seimitsu buttons, Sanwa briarwood ball-top.

Hori Fighting Stick EX (Original Xbox stick). Cherry wood top-plate with gloss lamination and Sanwa briarwood ball-top. Had to leave the original Hori buttons as they use a special touch-sensor rather than the usual wired connections, so they couldn't be easily replaced.

Ok. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2 for the PS4 anyway. I got a ton of fighter games so it'll see it's use besides MKX.

Couple other questions...

1) Are there any reviews out for this? All I'm finding is reviews for the xbox1.

2) Can the chord be extended or am I stuck with the 9+' of chord?

The TE2 is exactly the same as the XB1 version.

There's a review, though.

Got my TE2 in today from Madcatz. Right out of the box, I'm not too happy about all the rainbow spots appearing underneath the plexi. The spots are all over the artwork and are very noticeable at any angle, under any lighting:

Hopefully, swapping out the artwork with different paper will eliminate or reduce this effect. It looks really bad and its all over the place.

One other note is the bezel on surrounding the plexi sits pretty high and you can definitely feel it depending on where your wrist is positioned on top of the stick. Feels a bit uncomfortable but maybe I'll get used to it.

That looks like weather damage , like it got wet possibly or was exposed to too much heat. I suppose if it was stuck in the back of a seacan for 3 months anything is possible though. Hopefully you can get it fixed up.

How hard is it to get the wood for joysticks? Is it just a matter of finding the dimensions and getting someone to cut them?
