Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Great, thanks.
You're welcome. I have to say that I can't help but get hyped about the release even 3 years in and having played it a while ago, but at the same time it sucks I'll probably crunching over the weekend to meet a crucial deadline. But if things go well I might be buying myself a proper wheel soon and if not I'll still have no problem doing a few seasons with the pad. Need to get that Gaf TT challenge started too, loved them back in the early days.

Quick question about the career mode if I may.

I see you can start in any of the 8 tiers, if you start at tier 8, do you have to follow the rest of the tiers in chronological order? or can you jump ahead?

Likewise, if I start on tier 8, Karts, do I have to follow the path through the rest of the line (single seaters), or can you jump between the lines? I.e single seaters to touring to gt cars etc

You'll get offers at the end of the season to go into different disciplines.

No but it's coming. They announced on the forums this morning that in order to enable pre-load they have to luck us (the team members) out of the game until release so they are working on it but no specific date yet.

Thanks. Hopefully the download isn't too crazy.

Am going to pre order this game from Best Buy but need some advice..I have both the PS4 and XBOX ONE, and as far as driving cars Im pretty crappy on both controllers LOL..both come with the extra DLC so Im just not sure what system to get it for..any suggestions?

From the Digital Foundry analysis, the PS4 version both has higher resolution and framerate, but that was done on an unfinished build for both versions.

Oh I see..so if you had to guess which at the end do you think will be the better version both graphically and resolution wise? I havent bought a PS4 game since Bloodborne so it would be nice to get a game for that system just not sure..also am going to purchase The Witcher undecided on what console to get that for..its hard when you have multiple systems you just dont know which game to get for what console

I believe reoslution is locked for final release - that means 1080p for PS4 and 900p for XBox.
Framerate is harder to predict, but both versions shoot for 60fps. Both will *probably* have drops.

Both versions seem to be shaping up nicely, though. I also have both systems but I went with the XO version because of the wheel I already have, and also friends list. If you have neither, I'd say PS4 is probably the safest bet.

Yeah as far as controlling the cars I will be bad no matter what system I get LOL..I dont have any friends who have the game so you think PS4 is the safest bet? Both come with the exact same DLC so its not like I will be lacking anything..so I Guess I can get Project CARS for the PS4 and The Witcher for the XBOX ONE?

PS4 has higher resolution for The Witcher as well, so if that's important to you, it's PS4 for both. But that is not a decision for anyone to make but yourself.

Wait a sec, is the ghosting artifact in the renderer for all versions, or is that specific to PS4?
I think it has only been conclusively shown on the PS4 (in 60 fps direct feed footage).

Hopefully the SMS render team poster comes back and posts about it if they manage to reproduce it.

I just got an email from Sony telling me that my card has been charged for my PSN pre order. It says the game will be available to play tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11pm, I'm in the UK.

I really can't believe how excited I am for this game. It's everything I want from a racer.

What is this ghost fixing people are talking about..is that something you want in this game or something that needs to be fixed?? Does the XBOX ONE version have this problem?
Only the PS4 version seems to have a double image if people freeze a shot of it. In motion, I doubt most people will notice, but someone from SMS was posting a while back and might be looking into it.

There seems to be some sort of rendering bug in the PS4 version of the game that causes a weird ghosting effect...seems to be linked to motion blur

What we know is:

- its not present in PC or Xbone version
- the Dev from the render team that has been interacting with us programmed the motion blur on PC and Xbone...NOT PS4, so he said he would pass along the info
- it has apparently not been noticed in hours upon hours of quality control testing done by SMS
- its possible that the bug was caught, and will be fixed in a day 1 patch
- if not there is no reason to believe it won't be fixed early on

Thanks so much for the info. I Guess the only reason why Im in a rush is because I am planning on ordering the game through best buy and when you pre order the game you get the DLC included so I want to be sure to order the right version of the game and also in enough time so that I get the DLC..I dont plan on buying the steering wheel so either way I would be using the controller

The game was higher res, and performed better on the PS4 based on the pre release testing by DF...I don't anticipate that changing at all for release code...

Yeah it would be stupid for them not to have a day one patch to fix the issue on the ps4 since most people would be buying this game for the ps4 anyway

Gah, I'm not sure what to do. I really want to play this game, but I only have an Xbox one, and I'm worried about the quality. I want a ps4 but I'm trying to wait for e3 to see if a price drop or new model/bigger HDD is announced. Has any concrete comparisons been done between the two console versions?

Any Australian PC peeps in here going physical?

During the recent heavy weather event in Sydney, our vendor partner’s warehouse and stock of Project Cars for PC were severely damaged.

Replacement stock is on the way, but unfortunately we can no longer receive stock early enough to ship the game for delivery on release day. Currently we are hoping to ship your order from our Distribution Centre on release day.

It’s not just the boxed PC copies that were affected, either; the game’s DLC codes (printed on paper) were ruined as well.

So I was finishing up my GT3 season it was the third to last race which was at Spa. I was doing it at minimum length because I wanted to get to higher tiers and earn the zero to hero achievement then see what I wanted to do from there. So GT3 has a mandatory pitstop on the main race which in this case was 5 laps. It told me to pit lap 2 but I missed the pit because I had never pitted at Spa before and misjudged where it was. The fact that on a 42 lap race I was doing earlier tonight at 100% length it told me to pit at lap 2 out of 42 laps for my mandatory tire change seems like a glaring oversight. So lap 3 I come around again and pit and I had it on default settings for the pitstop which is weather appropriate tire. They put me on softs which 2 laps to go no big deal. Get towards the end of lap 4 and it starts pissing rain. I did all of lap 5 at 30 mph because any faster and I would spin out.

All stills and cinematic trailers of this game look amazing, but I'm dissapointed by the actual gameplay graphics. It's hi-res and great models, but it really lacks some realism. It is so clean and sterile, compared to Driveclub, which is really stunning. Might be that real life tracks are that boring to look at, but still.

Fantasy tracks you can do whatever you want....Also being 30fps allows much more detail in the world.

You have obviously not seen the game during it's weather effects then. Racing at night or in fog or around sunset is really stunning. I think you have realism and Driveclub backwards when it comes to visuals. It looks nice but not in a realistic way.

In the launch trailer, that opening quarter lap at Le Sarthe during dawn, via a sped up replay, looks properly stunning.

Any Australian PC peeps in here going physical?

I laughed heartily at this.

My attempt to make a custom livery. Pretty time consuming is all I can say!
