Aren't 3 out of the 4 arcade games locked under Amiibo?
*sigh*... EB Games Canada tweeted out this. I'd like it but I prefer my discount from another store.
Why can't you play any other modes on unranked? This seems really weird. Shouldn't you be able to play any gamemode online without having to worry about your stats? How do you even train for a new gamemode then?
But I guess the ranking doesn't matter that much anyway.
well personal preference all the way but I'd recommend trying them out again. if "waving a controller around" is what you have in your mind then you haven't mastered the right stick/gyro combination yet. now I'm just going to assume that the right stick can move in all directions because fuck, that'd be really weird if not. but yeah, instead of waving the controller around use the right stick for large movements and the gyro for fine tuning and accuracy. if you're doing it properly you'll only be slightly moving your wrists.
Honestly, I appreciate the concern, but it's just personal preference. 'Waving them around' is more my personal dislike edging into hyperbole than an accurate description. I'm just more comfortable and far better with twin sticks than gyro controls. It's the perfect balance between ease of use and accuracy for me.
I find gyro controls both less pleasent and less accurate, add in how bloody uncomfortable I find the Gamepad on top of that, and it's the perfect experience ruining storm for me, personally.
Honestly, if they'd gone full motion controls, and included Wiimote support, I'd be fine. It's less comfortable for long periods, and harder to use where I play than a normal controller, but not hugely, and I'm if anything slightly better with it than a standard pad when it comes to shooters, which makes up for any downsides. But yeah, Gamepad/3DS/Sixaxis gyro aiming is nothing but a hinderance for me, every single time I've tried to use it.
A timed server stress test as a demo basically? Launching with 5 maps? Nice that DLC is free though. Also, outside of this Direct and NOA tweets, the Splatoon "ad campaign" here will consist of a single, lame commercial done by the usual morons and hacks at Leo Burnett, an ad agency so consistently off the mark they probably couldn't make a proper ad for Meow Mix if their lives depended on it yet they are still paid to market Nintendo's products in the U.S. never mind they're also the same idiots who made the confusing and stupid Wii U dubstep TV spots which futher contributed towards the launch being a disaster. The commercial for Splatoon will then be aired about once every 3 hours on Nick and Cartoon Network. This will then cause my co-worker who owns a Wii U to tell me something along the lines of, "Hey our kids saw Splatoon at the store. They didn't even know about it until now because they say they haven't seen any ads for it so far on Nick and Cartoon Network" which is exactly what he said to me last year except replace Splatoon with Mario Kart 8.
I don't remember hearing anything about June specifically but the video said wed be getting the content updates through summer 2015. That's 9 additional maps through July or august.Yeah, honestly, I get that 5 is a low end number, but if they're well designed and everything, I really don't think it'll be a problem. They've said more maps are coming by June (if I heard/understood correctly), so newer maps are going to come soon. As long as the maps are good, that part doesn't bother me.
Hopefully Splatoon will have local-online play (you & a friend can locally play with others online). MK8 and SSB4 both had it.
Doubt it will as that would mean one player cannot jump to another players spot and be unable to see an overview of the map.Hopefully Splatoon will have local-online play (you & a friend can locally play with others online). MK8 and SSB4 both had it.
Killing Floor.
TF2 also launched with only 6 maps but it might as well have been 5 since Hydro sucks.
Well I think it would be weird if there was a rotation of 3 maps when there is a total of 5. I guess once the game has more maps we will get 3 maps per rotation.2. I think they might be planning to increase the number of maps available to be played on in each 4 hour period. Look at the bottom left of this image, where the maps are listed. There's room for a 3rd map. Another menu later on the direct has the same empty space for a 3rd slot too:
I'm not a fan of what looks to be substantial content being locked behind the amibo's at all. Rest of the game looks great.
Meh, I expected something more inline with the Zelda attraction aiming...To all people who are on the fence about gyro aiming in 3rd person:
1. run Nintendoland
2. select Metroid Blast
3. ...
4. enjoy the greatness that is gyro aiming
It's not substantial. The levels are the same as in single player but with special win conditions.

Is the hub running at 30fps? On Nintendo's 720p60 video, the hub parts are 30fps.

Like the first Wii games that used gyroscopic aiming, Wii Play Motion, Skyward Sword even if it didn't have customization but Red Steel 2 shows how great this type of aiming is over thumbsticks.Gyro aiming is awesome. After using it in Uncharted Golden Abyss, I kept trying to use it in PS3 shooters to no avail. And it felt like a step back. It's all about small minute corrections to your aim that can be tricky with a fast-moving analogue stick. Mostly useful for sniping.
Well, MK8 has sold over 5 million copies, so hopefully Spaltoon will be so lucky![]()

People not liking the gyro asisted dual analog aiming are just been obtuse XD

No need to get defensive when you are behaving irrationally and some people point this out to you. As long as your irrationality doesn't hurt anybody then indulge yourself in it and enjoy. We just don't like it man, no need to be rude about it.

Aren't the 8 new stages and modes launching shortly after the game.
From the direct it seems that the stages and modes are going to be launched before the August update?
You mean 27 hours3 hours to go before demo go live!
I CAN DO IT!!!
in talks with my family about selling PS4 to buy a Wii U + Splatoon and Xenoblade
I thought there were 9 new maps. You're right though. The only thing that it stated would be in the august update is the party vs party and custom lobbiesAren't the 8 new stages and modes launching shortly after the game.
