pretty much. The roller is strong as hell

Man an hour passes by too quickly, had a ton of fun i think my favorite i splattershot jr, been getting the most points with that and can take on those sneaky rollers as well

fucking hour just flew by this time. jeeze louise.

roller is pretty balanced by the simple lack of maneuverability. the ability to flank up boxes and around walls and shit is really great and the roller simply can't do it cos it can't fling paint consistently high enough. obvs the roller gains ground really fast but guess what? so does your teams rollers so if you have decent teammates you should be a-ok. it also loses completely to shield, i've massacred countless rollers by popping a shield in their faces and mopping the floor with them

it might be handy to let your team do its class selection before you launch into battle, i don't mind getting locked into it given how short the rounds are but there's nothing that might stop you from getting dumped into roller hell. team composition seems pretty decent though atm.

i love the maps but yeah it is weird how there's the damn safety bars everywhere. Thought I might be able to get into the enemy zone through the grates but you can't jump up through them, only drop down - lame!

Okay, just played about 30 minutes.

Initial impressions have a lot to do with just the overall look of the game. Despite this being the Wii U and many other AAA games being more on the cutting edge, to me, this is more visually appealing than most of those. It's colorful, has high contrast, and runs at 60 fps (from what I can tell -- 60 or close to it). Those are key things most AAA developers don't seem to care about.

Fun and hectic, the game seems to be extremely based on close quarters exchanges, since most the weapons have a short range. The charge shot seems to be underpowered, and the roller seems to be overpowered. Whichever team has more rollers tends to win.

The main reason the roller is overpowered is because of how quickly and easily it can change the color of the map. I've seen massive comebacks take place in moments just because of a roller blitz.

really solid mechanics on this one, and the one-on-one duel is super satisfying.

art style is tremendous, and makes me want a sherbert.

gg nintendo

Sorry to whoever happened to be on my team this session. Internet decided to crap out bad just as it started. Think I disconnected in 12 of the 15 or so games I played.

Atleast I got to stage 8 in squid jumper :V

Also I really can't get the hang of the charger weapon. Think I'll wait for practice with the full version.

I am a fan of the Splattershot Jr. Well, not so much the gun itself, the Super that comes with it. Having that Bubbler charged opens up a lot of options. Like charging the enemy, seeing their rollers bounce off and laugh. Or just as a panic button.

Or for the more sneaky advanced types. Bump into teammates and SHARE the bubble. Now we're BOTH invincible! Had three of us bubbled in one game.

Ubercharge tactics are a go! Except I don't need a Heavy. I AM my own Heavy.

Woah! I forgot the bubble shares between teammates! If I had remembered that I could've adjusted my tactics a bit. Ah... Next time.

So far I'm liking the Splat Jr. and the Roller. Can't wait for the full game so I can customize my character and get those buffs.

I don't know why everyone is saying rollers are op. So easy to deal with just walk backwards and be aware that they are coming up.

Hoping I can top my score of 1365 on the final hour. I want to break 14~1500!!

Had so much fun. Splatter is my weapon right now, seems to counter rollers well when they're running straight at you. Kept getting first so I'm getting better at this game already.

Had the greatest of times playing in the last session. Will join the last one for sure. Started with the Splattershot but failed to do as well as before, so I switched to the roller and had a great time. Joined some pretty balanced teams, with one or two rollers, one or two Splattershots and always one charger. Fun times, definitely.

So yeah, I'm left with the same impression as the first hour: fun game but the 2 maps every 4 hours thing is a deal breaker alone. I'm bored of these two within an hour, the full game would be even worse in that regard.
Really hope they change that.
It is a dumb decision for sure, but I am not expecting to play this game for 4 hours straight, so maybe it won't be too much of a bother.

hahaha last 2 rounds we had 3 rollers (including me) and we got stomped.

In one round I managed to put a sound blaster right in front of enemy spawn :D

Roller, man. All about the roller.

Is there a Jorge in the house? If so, damn you and you perfect Splattershot Jr aim. Damn you to inky hell.

That was a lot of fun, I'll be getting this game without a doubt.

Online's very smooth, didn't experience any lag throughout.

Nah, just get better at the Jr and moving around =P The charger kinda sucks, though. I spent half an hour this morning using it, and it's nice for covering a bunch of ground from on high but I couldn't kill anyone with it.

Awesome game. Second round went a bit better for me, as expected because practice.

We played a little dirty later on, spawn camped a bit. Then got a taste of our own medicine last game.

Holy crap, that was so much fun.
Absolutely no problems here. Zero troubles finding matches and no lag.

Managed to play a good 15 games or so, won most of them. I only used the Splattershots though, I think the Splat Charger is a bit useless and the Roller is OP so I refuse to use that one.

A bit frustrating to get instagibbed by the Rollers (feels like there's always 2 or more per match) but it was still pretty fun and exciting.

Quickest hour in a while for me :D

After playing a second time

+ unique gameplay
+squid movement feels nice

- no pro controller support is dumb
- controls feel really loose, even turning down the sensitivity.

Letting the pro controller be used would have to be like MH3U where the Wii U controller can still act as a map. It's just too important. It's almost MOBA important. You can see when your enemies are approaching and what weapons they're using based on how the ink is being spread (Unless they're using squid), tells you where to go in the fight, team positioning, etc.

Well, that was fun, except for people who were seemingly trying to play Counter-Strike and ended up here instead.

Wow. Goddamn that was fun. Best Dreamcast game I've played on Wii U yet.

Penalty and reward for taking out rival Inks (respawn delay and splat) is just right.

Gyro is definitely the way to go. If you can get used to it, it gives you a palpable edge.

Rollers do seem really good but they're easy targets.

Snipers seem weak but in the right positions they're deadly.

The drip-feed realisation of strategies with each game I played was delicious. Some very dramatic, tense finishes.

I could play this all day.

This is how I feel, didn't feel like any class was OP, snipper is useless though.

Game desperately needs pro controller support, and I think they'll eventfully add it.

Gonna try to play later but right now I think I'll cancel my preorder and wait for the updates, it isn't screaming 'day one!' to me.

Just got out of my final match of the hour, and I have to say that i'm going to have a hard time waiting for the full game to come out after this weekend. So much fun!

paint roller OP pls nerf

Had a great time, too bad we couldn't test the offline multiplayer though, because I'd most likely be playing it with my brother or sister a lot. Otherwise great, though Splat Charger is kinda shit and the Splat Roller seems a little overpowered.

I think the Splattershot Jr has by far the best special. If you manage to pop the shield well you can take out the entire other team while its active.

I find the sniper (forgot) name and the regular Splattershot has kinda boring specials, wish they wasn't just powered up grenades.

The roller is really bad overall. When you start using squid form and the movement, jumping up on things it becomes almost ridiculously easy to take out rollers.

That was so much fun, one hour flew by like it was nothing.
Only lost one match, I seem to be doing pretty good at this game and I"ve been lucky with my team mates so far.

Not sure why some people think rollers are op. Taking them out is ridiculously easy if you just stay out of their very limited range.

I"m definitely going to buy this. I could see myself playing the game for days as is. And that's without any of the customization or the single player.

The Killer Wail is so fucking useless.

Nah it has its useage, its great for mind games or for taking out shooters who are camping high up where the roller has issues getting to. You can also use it to get people to back away as you retreat/super jump away, I also like using them when I get into a fire fight with cover to help out flank the other team. Drop one on the right, then flank them while their movement options are limited.

My problem with the gyro is I can't aim left and right with it. Make it like Zelda on 3DS, where I can use both gyro and joystick, I keep getting confused.

And damn, demo over again.

Are people playing with the gamepad or a pro controller?

I just cannot get used to how the gamepad controls (and that's with the motion controls off and sensitivity adjusted). Really hindered my enjoyment.

At least it lets you finish your game if past shutoff, won 43.5-43.1 my team didn't know you could spawn outside the base I don't think because we stayed spawn trapped awhile. Smh...

This is fun but I honestly think it'll get old quick though. Controls are clunky on gamepad and needs a straight up PvP with longer rounds. Roller fest although they are not OP just easy to use.

No wonder Nintendo's hardcore promoting Splatoon, it's fantastic to play.

If they can nail the advertising for the home stretch, Nintendo might have a new IP they can rely on.
