My solution doesn't require any changes to the current game pad use, so it wouldn't affect you in any way while streamlining the game for more users.

Well it's not like they're adopting either so it's pointless to argue about it. Not that I don't agree with you in that choice in most cases is a very good thing. Especially when it comes to controllers.

One thong i hope they add is to give the sniper the ability to zoom. Maybe not like a full sniper, but like a 4x zoom would be sweet.

Nintendo, are you listening?

But for all the other class i think they are pretty fun. Cant wait to get it!
I believe that there will be some snipers that zoom in the full game. I think I saw it on the direct.

I think the important thing with the map and super jump is that you're basically getting omniscience about the map. Splitting the two would make super jumping more dangerous because you won't be able to see what's going on on the map in real time. Putting the map on the screen would also be bad because of how messy it looks. Not saying they shouldn't give alternative play styles, but I can understand why they didn't.

How do you know they won't adopt it? I was under the impression Nintendo had a record of adding more content and options to their games.

Game is fun, but coming from years of playing WarHawk where you need hours upon hours of practice to achieve a kill, let alone mastering weapons and vehicles, Splatoon feels inevitably over-simplified. Maps are small and strategy feels sacrificed in favor of frantic close-up action. I don't know what can be the long term appeal. It's like playing Kirby Fighters after a Smash Bros. session.

Do we already know about final game content in regard to online modes, time limits (3 minutes is just too short) and maps number?
You should find every game overly simplified if that's your background. Not that is true, you are trying to judge it on its outward appearance while completely missing the underlying strategic elements.

Yes, there is a variation that has a scope. I think it's the second Charger weapon? Could be the third, I forget. Either way, there is a scoped version in the full game.

The Jr. is decent on it's own but the Bubble special is what really makes it. Those poor poor Rollers. It also encourages you to stick close to a teammate so they get a bubble too. It's so satisfying to have an armored team advancing with nothing to stop you.

Wait what? The shield extends/is given to nearby allies?

This reads like you think the main aim of the game is killing opponents.

also being in squid form, building up momentum as you go forward, jumping, transforming back to a humanoid while in mid-air, and then immediately shooting downward while still in the air may be one of the most satisfying things I've done in a video game

this game just feels great. the controls, the ink graphics, and the sound design really make this game feel satisfying.
The squid form is the best thing in this game. I'll buy the squid amiibo just to have single player gameplay based around this gameplay mechanic.

Bravo Nintendo, I got confirmation today Splatoon is the closest thing to how gaming felt during glorious Dreamcast days.

What I mean is that even if they will adopt something that'll make it possible to play with more controllers I find it extremely unlikely that their solution to this problem would look similiar to your or mine.

Also does anyone else get the feeling that maybe they originally hadn't planned some of these extra modes and only started working on them after all the feedback they received from people playing at events etc?

I can honestly see Nintendo of Japan not giving this game a huge budget and probably thinking budget release like Captain Toad, but then realizing way in to development that the game might be more popular than anticipated and authorizing a lot more content etc to come. For some reason that seems more like Nintendos MO vs them just rushing the game out.

I kind of agree with this. I mean, I'm sure that the summer target release date was settled on and not something they wanted to deviate from (Mario Sunshine vibes?), but for the most part it feels like a combination of Nintendo using impressions and choosing to build the game's profile, as well as a Super Mario Galaxy 2 type situation where the developers just keep coming up with new concepts and ideas that they want to throw in, well late of their original design document being finished. I can't remember exactly where from but I think it was mentioned in an interview that most of the single player Hero Mode developed in just such a way, when a lone campaign hadn't been part of the original concept.

This, along with the nature of the development team itself is why I'm not very surprised about the "slow roll-out" approach they're taking to game content. I wonder how much more they might continue to add after the August update, aside from more Splatfests obviously.

My solution is simply not having to use the game pad. It doesn't have to have a radial menu. I'll literally take anything else.

Played about seven matches last night, mostly with the Jr. gun. Tons of fun. Gonna go preorder this now.

All but one of those matches were in the Warehouse, which ended up being good because I didn't really like the other map too much. Its so spread out that I ended the match with 0 deaths and 0 kills, although I still ended up being the top scorer because I went straight for the huge center area in the back and covered the entire thing.

Man I wish it wasn't just for a quick hour each day. I can't get back to my house by 2 central time, guess I'm just not gonna be able to play it :(

For me, pressing buttons on a Pro controller.
As I've precious said, I don't want your precious game pad jumping removed.

Where's the spatial factor with the button presses?

You know where you want to go. Tell me how you get there. For me:

I look at the map.
I spot a squid near the map.
I tap the squid.

At no point am I having to make an extra association, here. Physical location is key, and I can interact directly with the map to make that choice extremely rapidly.

Guys, there is a paint-able wall on this map you can jump up that lets you get to the high area. I've done it. I'm not sure if its what Razmos has highlighted, but it is on the opposite side of the orange team.

To the right there is a crane which moves left & right, you can step on a platform it carries by getting to the top of the middle crate tower and then jump on top. At first I thought this crane was on the other side, with the possibility of bringing you over to the other team's spawn area. Instead, it seems to just sway left and right with the option of being a tactical position for the scope weapon, or even the splattergun to spray paint over the area quickly.

It would be 100% perfect if it weren't a grate, but not being able to spray ink on it means you have to leave sometimes.

Which is smarter in the end, but it made me nervous to hang out there.

That's the best feeling ever when they don't know you're right behind them covering up every last drop of ink they spray and then crushing them. Oh and love it when players think they can avoid the roller by diving into the ink mwahahaha.

In a few hours of real play, I guess most will learn tactics to avoid a roller, such as swimming up a wall.

Okay but, ZR is shoot, ZL is squid form, R is sub weapon, R3 uses special, X is jump, Y is camera reset, D-pad up is taunt, D-pad down is taunt.

A, B, L would be launching to team mates??? Seems pretty easy to do an accidental misspress

You can get on top of the crane?

LOL, it's like you miss half the map playing with rollers.

I've already provided a one button/one stick solution somewhere above. It may not be ideal, but then again I'm not being paid to develop Splatoon. I have faith the powers to be could figure out a pretty ingenious solution if they put their mind to it.
