Wow this game is soooo good. Cannot wait for this. Spent the first 10 minutes just playing around in the tutorial just getting used to movement. I think the hardest thing is going to be getting used to pointing down at the ground. In every other game, we're trained to tilt upwards just slightly, so to have to play the reverse is really really weird at first.
And oh wow the controls, I can completely understand people's reactions to them, but getting used to them is worth it. That first quick turn 180 kill cements it. Just mastering the controls seems to be part of the job. By the last round I was getting better at evading and hopping around rollers.
I've seen people talk about not ever looking down at the screen and that meaning they should add a separate control scheme for the pro controller, and I just think that's a terrible idea. The gamepad isn't supposed to be an option, literally part of the meta of this game is constantly looking down at what map is controlled. I'm betting most people don't even look down once til they've died. The only time I lost was when I picked the charger and happened to end up on a team with all rollers. Every other team was constantly leap frogging from empty spot to the next. My last game I won because I noticed the other team had a whole section with no one there. I ran over with ten seconds and spammed my grenade perk, winning by a couple percent.
And that's the end of the demo right there. It's fun, but I'm not so sure if the game will be worth it at the price. Would buy if it was cheaper.
And yes, the roller is OP. I finished as MVP six or seven times in a row with it. So long as you stay focused and know the map, you can cover so much ground with it. But of course this is only the beta and a lot of people are unfamiliar with how the game works, so perhaps it's too early to be talking about what's OP and what's not.
This is the roller in gif form:
Roller is not op. Only time I ever died from it was when I was specifically putting myself in its way to try to do maneuvers around it, but not being used to the controls just usually resulted in me flailing. Other than that, rollers are like the janitors, great for clean up kills, and it's hilarious just shooting them in the head as the slowly walk towards you.
Can't wait to see the rest of this game, as right now I think I'm settled on the Splattershot, but I really want to give the charge shot another try, once I'ver got more muscle memory for this game.
